Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Looking for documentaries on America's health insurance industry
Hello all, with the recent murder of United Healthcare's CEO, I've become more curious to learn all about how America's health insurance industry works and why it would cause people to be so indifferent on a CEO being murdered.

Oh, Americans are not expressing indifference. It is by far more like a celebration of vigilante justice to draw attention to the miscarriages of justice performed by the company's denials of health care claims.

I agree. Most people are okay that it happened, without being pro-assassination either. Not even American, but I can imagine if I lived under the US health system, got sick, and was treated the way insurers treat their customers, I would be very angry too.

I'll watch this one tonight. Do you know if it is still mostly relevant since it was made 17 years ago?
IMDB link for reference: Sicko (2007)

Yes, Michael Moore's thoughts 17 years ago remain relevant, because he's one of the few people who honestly speak on behalf of the neglected public's needs:

Not a documentary, but check out interviews with Wendell Potter, former exec at Cigna who became a whistleblower. In this interview, he discusses a documentary
American Hospitals: Healing a Broken System

It's not indifference but a recognition of justice being done. Insurance companies are artificially placed middle men between patients and health care providers and they are only concerned about profit, not the health outcomes of patients. This particular executive's company had the highest rate of denying care out of all of them.
I don't condone murder or violence but I also won't shed a tear for this greedy fuck's death nor those in his family who lived a comfortable life free from worry because of the money he made by being evil.
For once we see an example of you reap what you sow.

The Shameful Case of Steward Health Care. When I heard “Health Care CEO killed” my mind immediately went to this fucker Ralph de la Torre. So it goes.

Instead, may I suggest watching one of many documentaries about the women, low-income population, PoC, and LGBTQA+ individuals who are victims of violence in this country (and probably yours) every single day? They really do make for better movies because there’s often video footage of those murders. You’d think this would help police catch their killers and draw attention to their cases, but it doesn’t for some weird reason. Still, fascinating drama.
