I don’t remember where I heard this, but somewhere someone posited that when a near death experience occurs, it’s actually your consciousness being carried over to a reality where you survived instead of just normal surviving. IMO not very believable, but it’s also unverifiable.
Imagine your life flashes before your eyes except it's perceived in real-time and when you finally get to the last moments (where you trip and fall in front of a moving truck) you wake up to a reality where you are on the ground in front of a moving truck.
Maybe every time we relive our lives the details towards the beginning and end get a bit fuzzier and that's why we don't recall a lot about infancy and senility.
