As you may already have noticed, over the past few days our subreddit has had some exciting new awards assigned to it, tailored especially to r/cats and based on a selection of the old custom awards you may remember!
These awards were designed especially for our community by a team of artists at reddit and are available solely in this subreddit.
We are helping to test out this new feature here and the idea is that in the future subreddit-specific awards may come with fun new features unlockable by subreddits and community participants. For now, there is a leaderboard we can unlock:
Awarding posts and comments with one of these custom designs will of course come with a nifty little animation on your screen, just like any of the other newest version of awards. Perhaps the best part of this new system is that these custom awards are all pretty affordable. Unlike the previous subreddit-specific awards which started at 500 coins you can now already choose to apply a custom award for 15 coins. I just think that's neat.
At r/Cats we are pretty excited to be a part of this trial program. Giving subreddits access to individual customisation shows that we are a unique community with its own space on reddit. You now have the choice to award a post or comment that you think is extra-special with a design especially created for us.
Thank you to reddit admin u/SmEllen_Fresh who was our contact during the development stage and all the other reddit admins part of the dev team for this new feature!
We hope you all will enjoy this new option as much as we do.
From all of us at r/Cats, thank you for making this subreddit the special place that it is!
I’m not sure how it happened, I just cleaned it today. I know you’re not supposed to bathe them. (This is just a picture of her I didn’t think I needed to show her butt on the internet)
She HATED the hat btw, lol the second I put her down she shook her way out of it, but she was good enough to let me take a picture of hers, my pretty girl :)))
My male cat kinda makes this breathing sound when purring that I don't hear my female cat do. Also not often, but twice he has got a coughing fit as if he choked while purring. It lasted for a few seconds of him coughing and then was ok. Is this normal?
Ignore the goofy angle, I waned to get him in the video but not my face lol
Our friend gave us a puzzle of our cats where they misspelled "gentleman" as gengleman and so we made our gengleman a mansion. Complete with working lights.
You can't make this up!
Saturday night/sunday morning, in the wee hours of the morning it was 16 degrees Fahrenheit. I'm a nightwatch on a horse farm and I was walking along the fence looking at my horses when I spotted eyes reflecting back at me from the top of a fence post.
Not entirely abnormal with raccoons and such so I keep walking. I get closer and they don't move and just keep watching. I get closer and start talking asking what it was.
It was cat. He was hunched over, thin coat, shivering with frost on his fur. He was frozen to the top of the post.
I got warm water and got his feet off and took him to one of the barns where the day shift crazy cat lady is. We get him set up in a heated room, food, water and a bed.
We have a microchip scanner for the horses so for fun and giggles she ran it on him the next day. It came up with a number and the "feline" code.
The plan was to call animal control when they open the 26 to run the number until somebody on facebook said "Try Pet Link." I found a match. His name is Nugget.
I fill out the found form and 45 minutes later I get a phone call from the owner.
Nugget was strictly an indoor cat that escaped. He was from the next town over, about 5 or so miles away. He had been missing for around 3 weeks... his children have been asking every day since he's been gone if they've found Nugget yet.
I sent him home last night on Christmas eve. Merry Christmas everybody.
And remember to update your tags and chips regularly. They may very well save a life 💜💜
He was in congestive heart failure, it was compensated until this evening. He was a very intelligent and gentle cat. He'd never hurt a fly. He knew how to open doors, cupboards and child locks. I'll miss you Uncle Grandpa.
First few pics of when I caught him (feral/wild and with an eye injury). Got his eye all fixed up and had 3 years together.
