I can honestly say they did this to me in school in the 90's in Florida. It's not a new thing, unfortunately. Now they pick the weaker women; back then, they picked me because I was different. I read a few years ago (10 years or so) how guys would do this in big cities, too, though it wasn't as obvious.

A fun social experiment I saw was to watch people walking in a city. Most of the time, a woman walking alone will alter her path for others, but men hardly ever alter their path except for other men, especially if said man was perceived as stronger or more important. (A guy in jeans will swerve for a guy in a suit or a muscle builder.) If a woman doesn't alter her path, men will run into her or wait until the last second to move, almost always resulting in calling the woman rude names. It worked pre-Covid. Not sure how it will now.

Doesn't sound like fun. From what I heard it's a really big problem over there. The fact they have to categorise them is insane.

I can't speak for those in Japan, only from what I have seen in the US. But no, it's not fun. It is 100% a power play meant to "put women in their place" and make the aggressor feel better about their shitty life.
