Advice on Affordable Apartments/Studios in Seef Area

Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I’ll be moving to Bahrain next month for work, and my company is based in the Seef area. I’ve already started looking into accommodation options and checked out some listings online through platforms like Property Finder and OLX, but I’d love to hear firsthand recommendations from people familiar with the area.

I’m specifically looking for an apartment or studio in a tower or building with decent facilities, and my budget is up to 350 BHD. Most of what I’ve seen so far is slightly above my range or doesn’t have great reviews, so I’d appreciate any tips on buildings, landlords, or agents to contact.

If you’ve had a good experience renting in Seef or nearby, I’d be grateful for your input. Thanks in advance!

Next Friday 12/3 4:30pm!!!

I haven't finalized a place yet, but most likely Raven's Nest or the Knot Coffee Bar in Seef Again.

And Thank You To Longjumping-Cat-5335, TheGoodDoer, and Fwedi_rumaro for showing up to the last one! 🙏

We had a great time and didn't end up leaving until about 8pm! We probably did about a dozen rounds of uno, a dozen rounds of spades, and 3 rounds of another card game I forgot the name of 😅

☝️ AskBH How to view my data usage for STC broadband

I been having tough time using STC broadband where 350GB internet runs out before 3 or 4 days before the renew. We basically don't download, mostly surf or watch live stream on daily basis. Due to this I'm not able to track how much is being used in day to day basis. If we are downloading something it should be an app update or system update. I been trying to get in touch with customer care about this which I felt not so great experience.does anyone how to track data usage within STC app or external app.

🕓 History History Nerds: Battle of Karbabad 1521

In Brief:

António Correia, a Portuguese commander, led the conquest of Bahrain in 1521. During the battle near present-day Karbabad, the Bahraini ruler, King Muqrin ibn Zamil, was captured and subsequently died from his wounds. Correia later incorporated the depiction of King Muqrin's severed head into his family's coat of arms, a symbol that remains in the heraldry of his descendants, the Counts of Lousã.

This event marked the beginning of approximately eighty years of Portuguese rule in Bahrain. The Portuguese constructed a significant fort complex at Qal'at al-Bahrain to consolidate their control, a structure that still stands today as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Further Details:
António Correia (c. 1487 - 1566) was a Portuguese commander who in 1521 conquered Bahrain, beginning eighty years of Portuguese rule in the Persian Gulf.

Correia was the son of merchant and explorer Aires Correia, who had gained notoriety during the Portuguese bombardment of Calicut a generation earlier.[1] Like his father, António Correia sought adventure and political intrigue in Portugal’s expanding empire in the Indian Ocean.

In the early 15th century, the territory of Bahrain covered both the present day state and Qatif in Bahrain , and was ruled by King Muqrin ibn Zamil, one of three Jabrid brothers who controlled the eastern seaboard of the Gulf. King Muqrin was the nominal vassal of the Portuguese vassals, the Huwala (Sunni Persian) Kingdom of Hormuz, to whom Muqrin paid tribute from the lucrative pearl fisheries that had made Bahrain prosperous. Having subdued the Hormuzis in 1515 and installed friendly leaders in the Kingdom, the Portuguese admiral, Afonso de Albuquerque, identified the Jabrids as the main obstacle to Portuguese control of the Gulf.[2]

In 1521, Muqrin stopped the payments to the Hormuzis[3] prompting the Portuguese to appoint António Correia to head a naval force to subdue Bahrain. With their Hormuzi allies, the Portuguese force landed on 27 June 1521 and fought the Jabrids at a battle near present-day Kardabad. The Bahraini force was beaten and Muqrin captured and, after his death from a wound to the thigh sustained in the battle, beheaded by the Persian admiral of the Hormuzis, who sent the head back to Hormuz. Correia later depicted King Muqrin's bleeding head on his family's coat of arms. The severed head is still a featured on the coat of arms of the Count of Lousã, Correia's descendents.[4]

The Portuguese immediately started building a huge fort complex at Qalat Al Bahrain in order to control their new possession. The fort still stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But perhaps a more important legacy is that King Muqrin’s rule was the last time that “Bahrain” would refer to the historic region of Bahrain rather than to the archipelago of islands that constitutes the present state. António Correia’s invasion in effect set the boundaries of the country.

Cost of living

Hey Folks,

I am eyeing a move to Bahrain in the next couple of months to join a local start-up. The compensation being offered is around the ballpark of 2500bhd (They are not offering housing or any other benefits). Can someone on the ground corroborate if this is enough for one person to live comfortably? I am ideally looking to save 45-50% of my salary.

P.S. I will be moving from London.

Thanks.

Feeling low

So a bit of background about myself I'm a multi national, so Bahraini plus another Arab nation.

Every time I visit Bahrain I feel extremely low and depressed. I'm not sure I can really pinpoint the reason, but I always find myself comparing it to my other country of origin.

Anyway, if I had to list the pros and cons in Bahrain would be the following:

Cons: ickily hot in the summer, superficial YOUNG people who are not that friendly (the older generation are different from my experience), mistreatment of migrant workers (from construction workers to maidworkers and all in-between), not that much interesting/nature places to go.

Pros: nice weather in the winter, older generation are warm and serving. Some people are quite banterous. Hearing adhan and other islamic perks. Some nice tourist destinations, including restaurants and beaches.

I think my problem is the lack of substance in Bahrain and people of substance. Just wondering if ya'll agree or not ? I might be biased since this is based on my personal experience and my interactions.

Anyone else feel that sunken, low feeling while in Bahrain ?

Feel free to prove me otherwise :) I would love a change of perspective

Comfest and Comic Con?

Why are there two big comic-related events happening in Bahrain right now? They both seem to be doing similar things, and I’m curious why they decided to have both. I feel like the team at Comfest is doing their best, and they have a more inclusive vibe compared to Comic Con. but I’m just really wondering what’s going on.

A Drop of Generosity: Traditional Water Fountain (Sabil) in Busaiteen , Bahrain - where heritage meets humanity.

This beautifully tiled charitable drinking fountain stands as a testament to the longstanding Muslim tradition of providing free water to passersby, as an act of charity, enjoined in Islam.

The blend of vibrant yellow walls and blue-tiled mosaic work makes this charitable water fountain not just functional, but also a beautiful piece of community architecture.

Stay close to Office or far off?

Hey all. Long story short, I was planning to live near my office which is in Bahrain Fin Harbor. I am torn between choosing one out of the 2 options after hours(weeks might be more appropriate in fact!) of research online. Please help me out before I go crazy from overthinking!

Option 1 - Stay in a studio (350-400 BD per month approx) apt which is walkabale distance from office. (less than 1km). Avoid the need to rent/lease a car (saving almost 150-200 BD per month)

Option 2 - Stay in Juffair/Seef or similar areas in Manama for lesser ( Studio or 1 BHK for 250-280 BD per month) and rent a car for another 150-200 BD.

Which would be a wiser decision? Money wise, life wise.

P.S - I dont travel out much, so I don't mind living without a car if shops/office are all at walkable distance. I am a bit lazy that way! I am living alone. My definition of entertainment is watching movies(in theatres or at home using OTT apps) with some popcorn. Other than that not much. Don't like to shop much unless it is a necessity. Like playing games on my console or alienware(PS5 and x16 R2 btw). Like reading a lot of books sitting in coffee shops.
