META Serious question!

UPDATE: I have legit received 19 message requests asking me for money. OMG. Did not sign up for this 🙈

Recently joined this group, in a place where I can help others so would like to help when I can.

How do I know if a request has been for filled?

Like someone asking for $100 obviously doesn’t need 6 people giving them the $100.

Please advise.

So when I give I usually first state that I'm trying to make contact, then update that I've made contact and transferred money. This has the downside of attracting lots of people breaking the rules and messaging me directly, which is why some other people don't do it.

The requester is then also supposed to mark it it as fulfilled. It's also complex because there is a complete spectrum from votes to Amazon Wishlists to small money to gofundme links (or people that need to be told to post them).

Interesting. I’m new here I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Thanks!

I'll usually also put notes in that people that contact me directly get reported. Which reduces that bad behaviour.

The reality is that there is always some weakness to abuse. But we can't let a small minority that behave badly from trying to have a positive impact and work together.

The community is also pretty good at spotting people that are being dishonest from their post histories. Talking about bitcoin or gambling (and a host of other things) and then coming in with a different story.

All that means that the majority do the right thing when you help them out, marking as fulfilled and not duplicating.

Makes sense. I’ll make sure to check post history.
