META Serious question!

UPDATE: I have legit received 19 message requests asking me for money. OMG. Did not sign up for this 🙈

Recently joined this group, in a place where I can help others so would like to help when I can.

How do I know if a request has been for filled?

Like someone asking for $100 obviously doesn’t need 6 people giving them the $100.

Please advise.

Each post has a flair. If it’s red, they still need help. If it’s green, they have received some assistance.

Thanks 🙏

This is why, if a post is marked as fulfilled and they have an Amazon wish list (which is common), you should check and see if they've gotten everything that they need, because even if they've only gotten a few things on the list, it will still be marked as fulfilled.

I find that a little frustrating and wish there was a "partially fulfilled" tag in these cases.

As per our rules, any amount of assistance means a request is fulfilled.

With over 320,000 members in our subreddit, we would rather more people get helped a little than only a few people get helped a lot.

It also stops people from reposting every 72 hours until they get fully fulfilled.

Having a third flair for “partially fulfilled” would require mods to regularly check every. single. request post to update it every single day until every single item is purchased. Sorry, but we are unpaid volunteers and I would like to enjoy my life outside of Reddit.

You folks should be getting paid to do this. Isn't Reddit a multi-million dollar company???

Ha, you’d think, but Reddit is somewhat of a dumpster fire behind the scenes. There’s a lot wrong with it. It’s hard being a mod, especially lately as they keep breaking the tools we need to use to do our jobs and keep our community safe.

Fair, makes sense.

So when I give I usually first state that I'm trying to make contact, then update that I've made contact and transferred money. This has the downside of attracting lots of people breaking the rules and messaging me directly, which is why some other people don't do it.

The requester is then also supposed to mark it it as fulfilled. It's also complex because there is a complete spectrum from votes to Amazon Wishlists to small money to gofundme links (or people that need to be told to post them).

Interesting. I’m new here I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Thanks!

I'll usually also put notes in that people that contact me directly get reported. Which reduces that bad behaviour.

The reality is that there is always some weakness to abuse. But we can't let a small minority that behave badly from trying to have a positive impact and work together.

The community is also pretty good at spotting people that are being dishonest from their post histories. Talking about bitcoin or gambling (and a host of other things) and then coming in with a different story.

All that means that the majority do the right thing when you help them out, marking as fulfilled and not duplicating.

Makes sense. I’ll make sure to check post history.

The requestor is supposed to use the "Request Fulfilled" flag when their request has been achieved.

They are supposed to but I’ve seen quite a lot of people who have gotten some kind of assistance and they haven’t marked it fulfilled.

Most people don’t even know how to change a flair. 😅

I asked for assistance after the hurricane. I was out of work and didn't get a check that week so I went two weeks without a paycheck. All I asked for was food, treats and litter for my cat. Someone cleaned out my Amazon cart of all three items and didn't purchase them. A week later they showed back up in the cart. :( That's the first time in my life I've ever asked for help and it was so disappointing. Whomever you were, that wasn't very nice. Thanks to those of you who are here for the right reasons.

You’re allowed to comment, you’re just not allowed to make a request or participate in offers because you don’t have at least 400 comment karma.

You need to get registered. Looks at the sidebar

After someone gives a donation they are supposed to report it and there’s a system which tracks it. So if someone accepts multiple donations they will get caught and banned

Please DM a mod the message requests as that is against the rules!

You guys are amazing, I'm struggling so bad but not quite grasping rules here. I just pray 🙏 I get it figured out as I push to regain a place in this world, so I can help as well ❤️‍🩹

Hi OP,

As your post has now attracted people commenting and asking for help, we’ve removed your post and locked fhe comments.

As other commenters have said, any unsolicited messages you receive should be reported to the mod team. Usually they have already been banned and added to the Universal Scammer List and if they haven’t we can add them. Unfortunately this doesn’t stop them from being able to read our subreddit and message people but for those who check the USL before responding, they know not to engage.
