سين سؤال Do Arab countries generally not care about "soft power"?

Soft power: a persuasive approach to international relations, typically involving the use of economic or cultural influence.

I don't know if this will be a controversial opinion but I feel like a big part of all the racism/hate against Arabs is due to this. I'm not saying it's the only reason but I do feel like it plays a part.

To show what I mean, Asians have also been demonized and subject to hate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellow_Peril

But, in recent years, things have gotten better for them - why? It's because South Korea has basically been promoting their culture through K-POP/K-Dramas.

Another example is Japan. Imperial Japan committed so many horrible atrocities, and today, most Americans and Europeans have a positive opinion about them because of things like anime and video games.

Anyway, I am curious to hear what others think.

Edit: Now that I think about this, I feel like we'd be accused of "propaganda" or whatever because I have seen people say this about South Korea.

الوحدة العربية 2024 in Gaza: A Year of Pain and Unending Suffering

As this year draws to a close, I sit in the corner of a dark room, reflecting on everything we’ve endured. Since this nightmare began, days have lost their meaning. It has been a year of loss, blood, and destruction. Time feels like an endless loop, with each day resembling the next—filled with cold, silence, and broken only by the sounds of airstrikes or the wails of grieving mothers.

This year aged me by decades. I watched as loved ones were ripped away, one after another. I saw the home I built with my own hands reduced to rubble and my dreams shattered before my eyes. We lost everything—our safety, our aspirations, and even the basic dignity of life.

My father, the pillar of our family, was gravely injured. He now lies helpless, his eyes filled with sorrow and pain. Every day, I try to ease his suffering, but I can’t hide my helplessness, knowing he desperately needs an expensive surgery I cannot afford.

The children around us are not spared either. My nephews run through the freezing house in torn clothes that barely shield them from the harsh winter. Their innocent, cold-stained faces pierce my heart. All I can offer them are empty promises that things will get better, even as I see nothing but darkness ahead.

While the world prepares to celebrate the new year with fireworks and festivities, we live under skies filled with warplanes and bombs. Joy fills TV screens worldwide, but here, our streets are soaked in blood and tears.

Yet, amidst this pain, a small glimmer of hope persists—the hope that we can find a way out. I am writing to you today to ask for help for my family. We urgently need to raise funds to leave Gaza, where life has become impossible, and to cover my father’s critical surgery. Any support, no matter how small, can be a lifeline for us—a chance to escape this nightmare and start anew.

If you’re reading this, please remember that there are people suffering in silence. Help us, or share our story. You might be the reason we survive. https://gofund.me/d84fe805

Do you think there is hope for عُروبة or are we too divided already?

I’d like to believe that there is hope for some kind of unity between arabs, not necessarily unity between governments but with the people, but sometimes I think I’m not being realistic.

What do you think? (I’m a male Lebanese btw)

Just to be clear and to not fuel misunderstanding: I do not judge the Syrians, I do not judge the rebel groups. I realize that such a critical and complex situation, unfortunately, it forces compromises. If the rebels really accepted weapons and money from Israel, I do not judge them for that. If the Syrians support the rebels even though they are funded by Israel, I do not judge the Syrians for that. The problem is not the oppressed who must know how to take advantage of opportunities to improve their situation, even when doing so means compromising with their ideals. I'm happy with whatever makes syrians happy. It's not up to me to judge neither to decide what's best for people living a situation I'm not experiencing. I just want to know what is your take on the matter!

سياسة واقتصاد Jordan's gas and water needs

We Jordanians have been told that we lack natural resources, and most importantly gas and water. Which forced us to resort to deals with Israel in order to accommodate these needs.

Now of course for me, that's a really horrible thing. Despite what the Jordanian government says, the overwhelming majority of Jordanians consider Israel to be an enemy. It's really frustrating that we are paying Israel money and letting them dictate us in the middle of their genocide on Gaza. Just the other day an Israel official have said that if Jordanian PM's do not tone down on their criticism of Israel, that Israel will cut the water supply. It seems to me that Israel just has too much leverage against us, and our survival seems to depend on them.

My question is. Is Israel seriously our only option for Gas and Water? I tried to argue with people here that we do not need Israel and we were fine before we had deals with them, but the issue is that I'm no expert on the matter. I'm not an engineer or an economic or political expert. Can't Jordan get these two vital resources from somewhere else?

My (maybe naive) mind tells that Saudi Arabia can easily supply us with both. And if not gas, then why not Qatar? Please someone help me understand this. Jordan is virtually a puppet State to Saudi Arabia (we've never steered away from their political course), so how come they cannot supply us with these resources? My cynical mind tells me that this could be a political game in order to force Jordan to put down any idea of resistance against Israel. Still I'd like some insights from people who are expert on the matter.
