Oh, one of my favorite people to talk about. Noam Chomsky. My great grandparents were friends with his parents. He hated his parents who were immigrants and American-exceptionalists. Basically, he is your classic genius academic who is completely out of touch with reality because he has only ever worked in academia, only spends time around academia (including his parents, who were academics). He has no frame of reference on reality because he was never forced to grapple with it.

Yet more evidence that the stereotype of the upper-class out-of-touch academic is, to the distress and denial of many academics, firmly rooted in reality.
