I'm honestly really impressed with the Shanghai level. They went through so much effort to model an area that you spend like 15 minutes in. The flying sequence alone must've cost a fortune to make.

I know! I expected to be there longer with how much effort they put in, but no. Game has blown away my expectations honestly.

I was blown away. Might be the first game to ever reference or include the Second Sino-Japanese War. And not only that, but Indy has a line about it bleeding into a world war.

Isn't ai making these levels now these days?

Of course no.

I don't know what your experience with AI is but at this point most AI platforms can hardly take notes of lectures or work meetings let alone design playable levels in games.

We aren’t even close to that yet

I kept failing this mission because I didn’t realize I was supposed to go leave the gun and run off the wing.

I kept failing over and over trying to just shoot the plane down. 🤣

u/ManicFirestorm 1d ago

Yea, I sometimes miss dialogue cues in the game because it can be so quiet compared to the surroundings.

u/paintpast 1d ago

For some reason the game defaults voice to 80/100. It was easier to hear dialogue when I put it to 100/100.

That jump would not work irl. The planes would move past you and Indi would die. Plane needed to be quite a way behind

Mate most of the stuff in this game wouldn't work IRL. The way your plane takes off in the first place would never work either. We're talking about a game with a seemingly indestructible whip, magic stones and shit.

Movie magic 🪄

I remembered the shot from a trailer from months ago, so I knew what to do. 🤷🏽‍♂️

u/CobaltD70 1d ago

There’s a reference to The Last Crusade if you shoot your plane’s tail. Nice touch.

8

u/Taller_Ghost_Joop 1d ago

I was purposely not shooting the tail BECAUSE of the Last Crusade lmao

2

u/Not_a_Ducktective 1d ago

Haha, me too. I figured they'd add something like that and was not let down when I was unable to dodge the tail every time I shot at a plane. Got a solid smirk from me even though I knew it was coming.

Theres also a file on his father that specifically talks about his work on the Grail is leading nowhere.

15

u/crocodial 1d ago

I accidentally shot the tail of the plane and Gina asked, “why was that?” Indy answered with classic Indy “uhh they got us.” I laughed out loud.

Voss' stiff karate moves had me dying laughing after he said he was a master

Just got to Egypt and am having a blast.

The moment where the same seamlessly nudges you to recreate the iconic 'bringing a gun to a knife fight' moment is a stroke of genius. Whoever thought of that, and however executed it to perfection, I applaud you. That was fucking terrific.

1

u/DarthTigris 1d ago

... not sure to what you are referring to. The game has so much openness to it that many of our experiences will be different.

6

u/OMG_NoReally 19h ago

It's in the Shanghai level, where you drop into this area with nothing on you (not even the whip) except a revolver, and a guy pops up with a sword and charges at you. The game clever nudges you to recreate the iconic scene from the movie without holding your hand or prompting you to do it. I instinctively went for the revolver and shot the dude, and then realized what just happened and laughed.

I guess that scene could be played out differently but the revolver would be the most effective way go about it. Sheer genius on the designers there to include this in such a beautiful, subtle way.

As someone that fired a gun like 3 times in the whole game, it wasn't my natural inclination and I punched the guy down. I ... I failed the Jones legacy . . .

3

u/DarthTigris 1d ago

I was so sad when it was over. It's so long, but I still wanted more.

2

u/ArchDucky XBOX 15h ago

There is a DLC but no word on when it comes out or how long it is.

u/ShockSignificant6113 1d ago

Haven’t gotten the chance to play yet but the movies straight up made me choose archaeology as my career

3

u/poleybear316 1d ago

Im a lifelong Indiana Jones fan and was apprehensive as hell about how good the game was going to be. Im very happy to say they absolutely nailed it with this game! They absolutely captured the feel of the movies, the game is GREAT!

3

u/tachyon_jay 1d ago

You will love this game then

4

u/Fun-Understanding209 1d ago

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is an instant classic. I love exploring tombs and dungeons! I hope Bethesda uses the gameplay as a guide for the next Elder Scrolls.

2

u/Uzeful1diot 1d ago

It’s a great surprise. They should just keep making these instead of actual theatrical releases. Indy will never get old and there are tons of ways they could go. The sound effects are spot on as well, and melee combat is a lot of fun.

-3

u/pukem0n 1d ago

This game is better than any of the five Indy films, hands down.

-5

u/JuanGGZ 1d ago

Use the "Spoiler" tag please...

Thank you for spoiling the surprise, I didn't reach this part of the game yet...

4

u/ComeonmanPLS1 1d ago

This bit was literally shown in the trailer

0

u/skullthrash 1d ago

This is what you call a spoiler? It’s a 30 second clip of gameplay. It’s not like he showed you some big twist in the story. You might want to avoid the internet if this constitutes spoiling the game for you.

0

u/JuanGGZ 1d ago

It's a gameplay sequence that is a spoiled surprise for me now, especially since it's not early in the game, I don't think it's too much to ask to put a spoiler tag for gameplay sequences which are after the first level, people don't progress on the same pace.

Now the OP or the mods reacted and put a spoiler tag, so it's good for other people who have not reach this part of the game yet and won't have this sequence spoiled.

🤣 how is this a spoiler

4

u/Thedirtyhood 1d ago

well before we never saw the use of planes let alone low flying planes. big spoiler in the aviation sector.

0

u/Thedirtyhood 1d ago

So you read the title, clicked the link and loaded the video. damn how the op make you do that.

1

u/JuanGGZ 20h ago

The video is actually on auto play when you scroll on the main page 😉

Now thanks to the spoiler taf, it isn’t anymore.

1

u/supa74 7h ago

Welp, I'm convinced.

2

u/hanohead 1d ago

It's just a pity it's completely bugged to fuck. Waiting on a patch for The Blessed Pearl mission as I can't progress the mission, and yes I tried going back to the village to Sunan.

4

u/ManicFirestorm 1d ago

Weird, I haven't had any major bugs.

0

u/hanohead 21h ago

That's good man. Love the game, I just wanna finish it and get the 1000GS now. Also I can't Larry anymore and Indy won't climb ladders for. Old maps are ok but Sukhothai is completely bugged for me.

1

u/mrc1993 21h ago

the wall part in the cave? im really waiting for a patch for that :( at least i had plenty of side stuff to do , so hopefully its patched out asap

1

u/hanohead 20h ago

Yeah that's part. I left and completed any side content I could as well but now I'm stuck waiting on the patch lol

1

u/pcj 13h ago

Guessing you got stuck waiting for Gina to find the hidden entrance? I had to force it to load an earlier save to get that to work.

1

u/hanohead 10h ago

No I'm stuck at the part after Voss captures her. Won't go through the gap in the wall.

1

u/MaximusJCat 1d ago

Every time I push someone off a ledge my controller dies and the game pauses. Definitely the game because it’s the only time it happens.

2

u/ManicFirestorm 1d ago

That is such a wild bug lol

1

u/DeadliftYourNan 1d ago

Just a shame it's super boring. I enjoyed the Vatican and explored it and fully fleshed out the exploration, taking pictures of the cats and solving puzzles and being super stealthy but then I got to Egypt and I'm expecting just a bit..more than that last section? But no it's just a new coat of paint and I'm expected again to just punch more nazis and somehow try to care about the people I'm meeting. Idk, game just dropped off for me on holding my attention which is a shame as it plays so well and looks so good.

7

u/pukem0n 1d ago

Gizeh is still pretty fun. By the third level it really changes up the pace and goes into linear mode for some time. Pacing is really good. You don't have to finish everything in Gizeh and can just come back later.

u/crottin-de-cheval Xbox One X 1d ago

Best level of the whole game!!! That Airplane fight was so fun!!!

1

u/ManicFirestorm 1d ago

And so much effort for how fleeting it was!

1

u/pukem0n 1d ago

This is actually the worst level in the game to me. It's still pretty good, but everything else blows it out of the water.

1

u/JungleBoyJeremy 1d ago

Damn this game looks fun as hell

1

u/Ok-Feeling7212 17h ago

Physics???

Never heard of them! 🤷

1

u/Entertainedd 1d ago

Jaw dropped mid jump holy shit I need to get back on this game

1

u/CarmineLifeInsurance 1d ago

LMFAO what that was lame who tf gets out of a plane to fistfight someone on the wing

1

u/INF3C71ON 16h ago

What am I not getting with this game? I found it incredibly redundant and boring for the first few hours. Pickup weapon, sneak around, knockout guy, repeat. Can someone please explain? Does it get better? More nuanced?
