And I've been waiting every week since they became available for them to go on sale. I have a hard time justifying $20 for a decades old game with no remastering, etc.

I've noticed basically none of that last batch of BC titles have ever been on sale. Not sure why, but it's irritating.
Even still, compared to a disc version, $20 is pretty good.

You just answered why. There comes a point in time when disc copies are more expensive than digital copies. So why do discounts?

It’s a pretty fair price tbh. I still buy games for my OG Xbox and the best games are at that price point. Recently got True Crime: Streets of New York for $15.

Steel Battalion was incredible. You could only play it with a custom 32-button controller.

Someone traded it in to where I worked a while back. We set it up immediately but struggled to get out of the first hanger!

Hahahahahaha!
Yeah, the game doesn't have a learning curve, more like a steep cliff in a landslide.

I feel like even this is underselling it. It was 3 panels w/ a gear shift, twin-joysticks, knobs and buttons. Not to mention it also had foot pedals.

How could you forget Tenchu Z? Lol
It’s crazy to see FromSoftware turn into the beloved darling they are today.

They didn't develop that one.
2
u/DapDaGenius 3d ago
Ahhh. You are right. They were the publisher. Never knew that.

u/Ayoul 2d ago
It's hard to keep track. I find for older games, the publishing deals were way more complex then now too.
2
u/DapDaGenius 2d ago
Yeah. I always thought it was FromSoftware because they were the only ones on the cover.

Well well well, I guess I can shut up all my friends now by saying my first From Software game was Otogi. No one will know what it is and I'll be crowned as the superior gamer amongst my friends.
Total success!

Steel Battalion was Nude Maker, wasn't it? I didn't know From Soft had anything to do with that one.

I think they were meant to put Chromehounds there, or maybe Metal Wolf Chaos

u/ExcelSpreadsheetLord 3d ago
Probably meant to put Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor, which was made by Fromsoft and was incredibly bad… imo anyway.

Steel Battalion is my white whale, I always wanted that game, but the price at launch was crazy, like 150 or 200 and it’s just one game.
The need to literally eject from your mech or lose all campaign save files was such a fromsoft git gud move
1
u/iamcrazyjoe 3d ago
Well that was because of the insane controller included
1
u/AssaultMonkey150 3d ago
Yea but the controller is also just for that so if you don’t end up liking the game it was a paperweight

Ninja blade was so bad!
2
u/Imaginary_Cause2216 3d ago
Yeah i played about 2 hours of it, it was really janky and full of qtes couldnt force myself to play any more. Its a good thing they found their formula because character action games definitely wasnt thier strong suit

u/xboxwirelessmic 3d ago
Yeah the qtes really stuck out and ruined it for me too. That plus just how stupid everything looked.

The pain and joy of playing steel battalion. Still to date nothing ever like it.

Otogi was always that elusive exclusive Xbox game I feel that it could’ve had something going (same can be said for Phantom Dust but that story alone in unfortunate) back when FromSoftware was experimental game developer and Xbox had a presence in Japan. Should FromSoftware ever revisit Otogi, it deserves a full remake from the ground up and release on PC as well, control wise it’s rough but play flawlessly on Series X

The good old times when Microsoft actually cared and funded console games. Actual console video games. Not that I hate what we have today, but I think Series consoles are more entry level gaming PCs than consoles. That died with 360.
