I mean, she didnā€™t say anything horrible

166

u/TheInfamous1011 Sep 11 '22

This time.

50

u/Pumpkin_Queen78 Sep 11 '22

Thatā€™s fair

23

u/Screamingsutch Sep 11 '22

yeah she isn't really gossiping, she's commenting on where shes about to focus and work on

58

u/blagaa Sep 11 '22

She said he has massive cuticles. He'll feel self-conscious about that for the rest of his life!

29

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

The first time I ever had my nails done, the nail tech told me I had the smallest nail beds sheā€™d ever seen. That was almost 20 years ago and I still think about it more than I should.

14

u/el-em-en-o Sep 11 '22

Massive cuticlesā€¦ what does that even mean? Like from side to side?? Or from nailbed to however far out theyā€™ve grown? Or just a lotta dead skin? What in the world

13

u/blagaa Sep 11 '22

You'll know it when you see it

4

u/el-em-en-o Sep 11 '22

Ha!! Probably true

3

u/ZKXX Sep 12 '22

If you donā€™t push your cuticles back, which most men probably donā€™t do, thatā€™s what sheā€™s describing. So not massive just never been pushed back and trimmed.

1

u/el-em-en-o Sep 13 '22

Thank you!

2

u/Kowazuky Sep 12 '22

she meant his hangnails mostly

5

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

I would say it would be pretty poor taste to be on a call with your son and shit talk your sonā€™s friend while heā€™s right there in front of you. This is a decent parent. And I say this as a Hong Konger, it has implications on the culture of giving face as well.

1

u/EquivalentSnap Sep 11 '22

Sometimes they do and theyā€™re assholes for it

2

u/Pumpkin_Queen78 Sep 11 '22

Yeah they do

697

u/Anticrepuscular_Ray Sep 11 '22

That lady is hilarious, what a good sport.

69

u/Teerendog Sep 12 '22

Like she didnt see the camera recording her??

70

u/Anticrepuscular_Ray Sep 12 '22

He could have said he's a vlogger, it isn't uncommon.

31

u/OWLtruisitc_Tsukki Sep 12 '22

He is a vlogger tho

37

u/TrevorsMailbox Sep 12 '22 edited Sep 12 '22

She did, she just didn't know why. He's a polyglot and speaks like 50 languages and this is his friend's mom who they set-up. He's pretty damn amazing at learning languages from all over the world. He even learned Navajo and a bunch of hard to learn rare African languages.

Edit: maybe not literally 50, but he's an impressive polyglot. He speaks Mandarin better than many Chinese people (their words, not mine).

10

u/hungariannastyboy Sep 12 '22

Mandarin is the only language he actually speaks to any appreciable level.

9

u/TrevorsMailbox Sep 12 '22 edited Sep 12 '22

I guess it depends on what you consider appreciable.

He's near native in Mandarin and a bunch of other Chinese dialects. That's way different than just being fluent.

I know he's fluent in Spanish, not sure how many other languages he's fluent in.

He can speak a lot of other languages and dialects on a conversational level.

Being able to hold a conversation in several different African languages is something I'd consider appreciable for a white American kid.

I think he surprised the hell out the Navajo people he talked to too.

15

u/Teerendog Sep 12 '22

I know who Xiaomanyc is, but he doesn't speak that much languages. I love his series speaking one of the African languages. He's probably the most famous one right now.

I had a similar situation where I was helping a woman friend in central Pennsylvania pick up some items in a truck as I was helping her move furniture. We stopped at a mom and pop pizza place on the road and apparently only one of the guys spoke English as the rest spoke only Italian. As we sat and ate she started turning red and got very agitated as the guys were talking behind the counter. Needless to say it only took less than a minute before she got up to the counter and bawled them all out in Italian. She obviously wouldnā€™t tell me what they said but Iā€™ll never forget the lesson that you never know whoā€™s listening and what theyā€™ll do in response. I had no idea she spoke Italian, and Iā€™m sure they never forgot her either.

42

u/Bullen-Noxen Sep 12 '22

It sucks how a lot of people mistreat others over a simple communication issue. It sucks, really.

14

u/Rrdro Sep 12 '22

You should never say anything in another language in front of someone if you wouldn't say it in the language you think they understand. If you want to say something in private do it in another room. It is rude to talk about someone in front of them in another language.

58

u/ExcellentWeekend9877 Sep 11 '22

This is so sweet and fun!!!!!

She's hilarious.

44

u/mitchanium Sep 11 '22

That was a good wholesome prank. Well done

8

u/Pass-on-by Sep 11 '22

Nah. She got lucky.

81

u/popemichael Sep 11 '22

I take care of my 90-year-old grandmother who is from Puerto Rico. She has memory issues and keeps forgetting that I speak a bit of Spanish.

So in her darker times, she'll start talking mad shit about everyone in Spanish, thinking that no one understands.

To be fair I'm the only other person in the family besides her who took the time to learn any amount of Spanish.

I learned to stop speaking back to her in Spanish when she's upset as it broke her illusionary "nobody understands me" bubble. I figure to let her talk mad shit in moon speak. She's 90 and earned that right.

13

u/givememoreskin Sep 12 '22

Yea, I dont know what she says, but just staying alive for a long time doesnt give you the right to do anything but be old.

16

u/popemichael Sep 12 '22

It's nothing racist or super mean, just kinda grumpy with a side order of crotchety.

It's the equivalent of telling someone how bad a shirt looks on them, or that she hates their haircut because it looks old, or that their breath sticks.

The meanest thing I've heard her say was towards my entitled aunt: 'You don't care, you just want me to die so you can have my house. I'm going to haunt you and make you shit your pants"

Being able to talk shit to someone at that level and that age isn't really a big deal. I'd afford it to anyone who lived that long. I mean, what are you going to do? Call her mean and get upset?

Nope, that's an "okay, grandma. Whatever you say, grandma" situation.

3

u/Adventurous-Cry-2157 Sep 12 '22

Omg that insult to your aunt is pure gold! I cannot wait until Iā€™m old enough to say shit like that and just not give af anymore! Love it!

2

u/X_Comment_X Sep 12 '22

Hope I don't turn into a rude old person like your grandma.

1

u/givememoreskin Sep 13 '22

Okay, now imagine any other person besides your grandmother talking like this...nope, not okay. I had a grandmother that I had to constantly put in her place, she was a fucking bitch. And your gma sounds the same way. It's not some funny thing that happens to old people. They have been judgemental, angry, hateful people thier entire lives. Do not defend them because they got older.everybody gets old.

4

u/Slam_Burgerthroat Sep 12 '22

Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world so I donā€™t imagine why she thinks nobody will understand.

3

u/popemichael Sep 12 '22

She's not around strangers often, being in her 90s and with dementia issues. Sadly, I don't even think the concept of strangers vs family really exists for her anymore.

The reason it would shock her is that no one in her family took the time to learn her beloved Spanish. So she was able to talk shit to her loved ones with impunity (which is all done with love, in a weird way).

Then I suddenly pop into her life and take over taking care of her and I know a little Spanish, which is abnormal in my family.

37

u/misterimsogreat Sep 11 '22

"Oh my gooood. I don't mean to talk shit about you, I'm sorry.", that got me.

27

u/AzulaOblongata Sep 11 '22

ā€œWe should stop gossiping about the customers! Some of them can speak Chinese!!!ā€

This is hilarious

The show 'Seinfeld' has not aged well for its cultural and ethnic diversity

Unlike "Friends" which briefly had a black actress in it

13

u/Pseudeenym Sep 11 '22

This just makes me miss Loashu! RIP

This reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld when the Korean ladies was talking shit about Elaine. Lol

4

Rip loashu šŸ˜”

14

u/SpineSpinner Sep 12 '22

Thatā€™s Arieh Smith, the manā€™s a polyglot. He has a video of him learning enough Norwegian in two weeks (without any prior experience with the language) to be able to go through an entire interview on live TV in Norway.

13

u/goetheschiller Sep 11 '22

ā€œWhat the hell you say?ā€ dead šŸ’€

12

u/Mat_CYSTM Sep 11 '22

I died when she fell back lol

8

u/Cr1tikalMoist Sep 11 '22

YOOO XIAOMA I fucking love him

10

u/StrongIslandPiper Sep 12 '22

If anyone's curious, it's not too common for people to talk shit in other languages. When you learn a language you think you're gonna hear a bunch of shit talking every day, but usually it's like "hey, what did you want with your coffee again, Frank?"

But once in a blue moon, you strike gold and someone says some WILD shit.

7

u/BabyEinstein2016 Sep 12 '22

Ah I love this. My wife and I went to a small town in Italy and a guy was saying to his friends how we were typical Americans so we would only be able to speak English. He went on for a bit before I responded to him in Italian since I actually got my minor in Italian in college. We also live in Germany so I asked if he would prefer German. His friends laughed so hard.

24

u/Panda0nfire Sep 11 '22

Every non English speaking country if you're white and you can speak their language the locals are so excited and nice.

Come to the United States, if you don't speak perfect English, they call you stupid and get annoyed.

1

u/methyo Sep 12 '22

Well this is just a wild exaggeration

5

u/Shif215 Sep 12 '22

She happy she ainā€™t start talking shit šŸ˜

5

u/jpark778 Sep 12 '22

".......wat da hell u say!!???" -LMAO

14

u/ghcoval Sep 11 '22

This guy is a polyglot, he speaks 23 different languages

13

u/hi-space-being Sep 11 '22

It amazes me how people can pick up so many languages. I took French for 8 years and can't even hold the most basic of conversations.

-12

u/Iamredditsslave Sep 12 '22

No where near fluent and hardly conversational. It's all a scam, he learns a few phrases for most of the videos.

7

u/spankthegoodgirl Sep 12 '22

You haven't seen his vids if you say this. He can learn a rare dialect in an afternoon and go down to the corner store and not miss a beat. Gtfo of here. The man's brain is built for language.

2

u/monsterZERO Sep 12 '22

Where does the 'scam' come into play here?

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

Oh good! I thought she was gonna be racist or something.

5

u/Kowazuky Sep 12 '22

she said he speaks better than her son! LMAOO

5

u/GroceryStoreGremlin Sep 12 '22

This is the best one of these types of videos I've seen. She is awesome. "What the hell you say?"

3

u/Big_Berry_4589 Sep 12 '22

This guys channel is gold. He goes to the market in China and they gossip about his Chinese tattoo (he has a food related tattoo which looks like a mistake but itā€™s not) and then he start speaking to them in mandarin.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '22

He should have fucked up his nails on purpose. For the meme, bro!

3

u/brickie3 Sep 12 '22

I love this guys channel man

3

u/South-Play Sep 12 '22

I have a friend that is Vietnamese her mom owns a nail salon. They talk shit about everyone. Thatā€™s all they do. Donā€™t think they are your friends. If they donā€™t speak English around you they are most likely talking about you.

3

u/phenoman18 Sep 12 '22

I think that 3 or 4 more angles would do the justice

3

u/poletecroquete Sep 12 '22

That lady is great omg. I've had something similar happen, but it was also harmless.

I'm Brazilian and live in Canada. I was on the bus with my partner, and a pair of Brazilian girls sat behind us. One of them started commenting on my partner and the other said "Shush, he's with his girlfriend" to which the other responded "it's fine, they can't understand us". As we were getting off, coincidentally at the same stop as them, I heard one of them question something about the stop location. Since neither knew, I answered them in Portuguese, and their realization that I heard everything was quite funny. We laughed about it, and as they got off one of them said "we gotta be careful, there's too many Brazilians here"

3

u/rohithkumarsp Sep 12 '22

A black dude uses to do the same thing, he recently passed away during covid.

3

u/purplehendrix22 Sep 12 '22

I do this with Spanish sometimes, Iā€™m very white and I work in an industry where I come into contact with a lot of Latino Spanish speakers, they never assume I know Spanish (not much, but enough to get the gist of a conversation) and I keep it on the down low until I hear them say something about me and then Iā€™ll ask them a question in Spanish and just watch their faces like ā€œoh fuck this guy knows what we just said about himā€, itā€™s hilarious

3

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

Shes cool afšŸ˜†

2

u/macr6 Sep 11 '22

Love this guy, and she was great!

2

u/GrandmasBoy69 Sep 12 '22

This would have been funnier if he waited until he paid to tell them.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

WHAT THE HELL YOU SAY

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

Omg the person who thought he was being racist...

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

I want to secretly learn Tagalog so I can do this to my Filipino co workers haha . I picked up a couple of words, its fun to recognize them when they are speaking to eachother. It would be very handy to know the language because we have a significant Filipino population here. They are awesome people and I would be proud to know it.

2

u/NickyonBottom23 Feb 21 '23

Yeah my family we speak Hawaiian e Ź»Ålelo. So when my friends would come over they would hear my family interacting in Hawaiian and I remember my friends were just in awe like what language is that?! I said it was Hawaiian and they're like hawaii has its own language LOL. Anyways, my lil sister had a crush on of my friends. And instead of speaking in Hawaiian she started speaking in english to me not realizing that she was speaking in english saying how hot my friend was. Can't tell you the shades of red my sister turned when she realized what she had done. We laugh about that to this day.

2

u/JelloDarkness Sep 12 '22

Who is filming this, and how are they keeping that part a secret? The camera angles, panning, and overall solid framing make me question how it was filmed in any way other than obviously - yet they never look at the camera, which is odd.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '22

Definitely wouldnā€™t have been tipped off by someone filming.

0

u/50-Lucky Sep 12 '22

Why be recording? Must have happened a few times?

He does this all the time, I suggest his YT channel, itā€™s awesome. I think his wife is Chinese and heā€™s highly fluent and purposely sets up these skits so he can show off his language skills.
