GTA V is old enough that kid could be born after it came out.
171
u/HumanOverseer Jan 19 '22
didn't it come out in 2015?
Edit: 2013
Edit 2: holy fuck that's 9 years
Edit 3: why do I feel so old
59
u/t_a_6847646847646476 Jan 19 '22
it was announced and shown off in a very complete state in... 2011

u/feedmeyourknowledge Jan 19 '22
Do you have a video/ article link for this?

u/Gofa_Kirselph Jan 19 '22

u/feedmeyourknowledge Jan 19 '22
Oh wow I don't remember the trailer being so long before release.
2
Jan 19 '22
Red Dead 2 trailer also came out 2 years (+6 days) before release.
2
u/feedmeyourknowledge Jan 20 '22
I can't wait to see the next gta trailer. Surely it's only a year or two away now.
33
u/youjustgotzinged Jan 19 '22
Because 9 years is a long time but it didn't feel like a long time because instead of spending those 9 years recording new memories you spent it on autopilot watching reruns of the office.

Woah c'mon dude,we don't need that kind of existentialism right now.

u/HumanOverseer Jan 19 '22
No it was probably cause I was having fun enjoying my life, instead of being miserable and just waiting for the day to end.

u/elveszett Jan 19 '22
Dude...
My thought process reading your comment was: 2015? Yeah I think the game is recent. Wait, 2013? That's almost 7 years old. Wait 9 years??

u/the123king-reddit Jan 19 '22
I remember when San Andreas was new. I was about 14 then.
4
u/betrayed117 Jan 19 '22
I remember being a dickhead in San Andreas. I would go to that little town where you could find the molitovs and just jack tractors from npcs and hook like 10 of them together. Such a simpler time.
4
u/the123king-reddit Jan 19 '22
Ah, the ol' tractor snake.
Did it with tow trucks before (the junkyard next to Mt Chiliad was a good place to get one) and chained like 15 of them together. Never used to end well.

Shark cards and their consequences have been a disaster for the grand theft auto franchise.
1
u/altcntrl North America 🌎 Jan 19 '22
How? I keep seeing this but don’t know what it’s about.
2
u/Crystal3lf Jan 20 '22
He's just making what he thinks is right up. Rockstar combine all their studios together to make a single game.
http://www.gamespot.com/articles/rockstar-more-than-1000-people-made-gtav/1100-6415330/
“That’s the way we work now--everyone works on GTA, or Red Dead, and so on, then we move on to the next thing,”
RDR2 only released in 2018, so they have only been working on a new game since then. They hired 2,000 extra employees after GTA V came out, so it has been anything but a disaster.
2
u/Shotinaface Jan 19 '22
Because it gives Rockstar literal billions in money without doing anything that requires actual work. Mostly children buy them up because the economy in the game is so artificially inflated (you can buy hundreds worth of "Shark Cards" and not even be remotely close to having the money you need to buy the cool stuff in the game). It literally preys on children or money illiterate people.
It showed the gaming industry how easily money is made with 0 effort, since GTA 5 released, gaming has gone downhill very hard and the money making tactics are getting increasingly worse.
It's also most likely the reason why GTA 6 is taking so long. Why would Rockstar put work into their games when dumb idiots give them millions every day?
3
u/altcntrl North America 🌎 Jan 19 '22
They do update the online part on a consistent basis. Especially considering the age of the game. I’d say that is actual work.
I do not like the turn the software industry has taken with subscriptions and micro transactions at all and do think it’s shifting certain things.
It’s wild 6 hasn’t been announced and 5 has come out on 3 generations of consoles.

u/Crystal3lf Jan 20 '22

Stop making things up.
GTA Online at its peak made $250m in 2016-17 when they had all platforms contributing to revenue.
GTA V as a property has made ~$10 billion. The physical game has made many, many billions more over sharkcards. In 2020 the physical game sold 20 million copies, that's more than most triple-A games sell throughout their lifetimes.

I still remember the controversy about how gta 3 was too real because it was 3D.
We allowed it when it was top down sprites but this? This is basically real!

The joy I had when my brother brought Vice City home right after it came out. Somehow, as a kid, I didn't have any problem with that RC helicopter mission. The planes, on the other hand, always gave me trouble.

I really don’t think it was that insecure. He was just joking around with his son.

u/Gooneybirdable Jan 19 '22
You’re correct, but if my dad tried that with my gay ass it would be panic central 😂
13
u/LEMO2000 Jan 19 '22
I would hope a gay man can still appreciate a nice pair of titties. You certainly did when you were a baby.

3
u/thatguyned Jan 19 '22
I'm personally not a fan of them but they are very celebrated in general with other gay men. I've just never seen the appeal personally, they don't gross me out or anything though, they are just breasts.

Glad you can infer that much information and get to know someone so fucking well from just a 30 second video where the guy is just joking around.
Nah, you have no fucking idea and just want to feel superior by assuming the guy in the video must be an asshole.

Lmao yes! My youngest brother was introduced to Skyrim for his first video game so it’s crazy to me he won’t experience crazy polygons like the infamous “Triangle boobs”.

u/Damjo Jan 19 '22
Did you like the damn tits, CJ?
2
u/SwagtasticGerbal Jan 19 '22
My nickname at home is TJ so as a kid hearing Big Smoke yell “All you have to do is follow the damn train CJ” it felt just a tad bit personal lol.

LMAO, when my dad first saw me playing gta he was all like “what the hell game is this??” watches me roam the streets causing absolute mayhem
“Can you go to a strip club???”
