The amount of selfishness and misinformation in the world today continues to be our demise. People act like this will just go away and it’s certainly not anytime soon. Here we are almost halfway through year two with no end in sight. You would think wanting the world to open up and be back to normal would be enough to make people make the logical decision but no, why listen to scientists and doctors when you have Susan on FB feeding you a bunch of illogical bullshit. We are all fucked and unfortunately the stupid outnumber us 4:1. Fuck….

22

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '21

You are wrong about the stupid outnumbering, they just talk louder. U.S. fully-vaccinated rate is over 50%.

16

u/dude-O-rama Aug 12 '21

So, not over much over 50%? That sounds to me like half the country is talking loudly.

9

u/Rudybus Aug 12 '21

Yeah but few people under 18 are vaccinated, and they make up about a quarter of US population. So it's more like 37.5%

8

u/tw0s00n Aug 13 '21

The 50% does not include children. Scroll down to see the breakdown by age. i.e. 65-74 years old are at 92.6%. https://www.mayoclinic.org/coronavirus-covid-19/vaccine-tracker

People like to give boomers shit (for good reason), but they take vaccines seriously. They remember polio.

1

u/almostedgyenough Aug 13 '21

Some do. My grandparents are part of the silent generation, before the baby boomers, and they are Republicans and still got the vaccine. However, my aunt and uncle, both baby boomers (ages 60 and 62) are both huge anti-vaxxers and QAnon nut jobs.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '21

This means nothing if new variants are cranking out everywhere else and you can still get covid with side effects from a mild case.

1

u/HeyLookitMe Dec 18 '21

See, the problem is how we look at what numbers. Over half of the us population being populated means that there’s still at least 140,000,000 people unvaccinated and each and every one of them is a potential vector of infection and possibility for mutation. That’s 140,000,000 opportunities for a highly infectious disease to spread. The 80-whatever percent vaccination rate to create herd immunity means that there will still be at least 33 million unvaccinated out there spreading disease.

3

u/ErshinHavok Aug 13 '21

I have a buddy who I was shocked actually got both doses, because he never really seemed to think COVID was a big deal no matter what facts n logic I threw at him. But now that our state has brought back the mask mandate, he says he's never getting another vaccine again. Really stupid shit but I'm sure there's a ton of people like that too. So yea this is never going to end. I really hoped the vaccine would bring the end but now I really have no idea what will happen but these are fucking dark days.

America is not the world

13

u/Indurum Aug 12 '21

Imagine being dumb enough to think this only applies to America?

Are you suggesting misinformation and denying only occurs in the US? Because I've seen it rife in other countries too.. maybe not everywhere in the world but it is definitely prevalent throughout

1

u/alphabet_order_bot Aug 12 '21

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.

I have checked 160,727,616 comments, and only 39,664 of them were in alphabetical order.

Just watched the good luck Charlie gal at a public meeting and then this. Makes her look even crazier. The two of them should talk

8

u/SoVerySleepy81 2022 Oracle 🔮 Aug 12 '21

It wouldn’t change anything, that woman is advanced stage crazy and I don’t see any amount of reasoned argument getting through to her. A big problem is that we’ve got so many people living in a completely different reality. They won’t accept facts, they deny the shit they see with their own eyes, and they are completely dug in on their interpretation of reality.

3

u/RogerRabbit79 Aug 13 '21

Very true. Dr O’Neal broke it down so good I can’t imagine someone not understanding. However......

5

u/FunkyHedonist Aug 13 '21

I just watched the same clip you mention. Its such a wild dichotomy. On one hand, we have an educated medical professional fighting back tears as she explains that the hospital system is about to collapse if people don't get serious about masks and vaccines. On the other hand, we have a washed up Disney star screaming non-sequitur references to the declaration of independence, to thunderous applause from the dumb ass crowd.

2

u/RogerRabbit79 Aug 13 '21

Yup. Maybe there needs to be a weekly show of showing what’s going on in those hospitals. Something to bring the light of day.

2

u/FunkyHedonist Aug 13 '21

100% with this. Like like the show "Cops" but with doctors - "Docs".

20

u/TurtleDangerMan Aug 13 '21

As a non American this is so sad to watch. I feel so sorry for her and others like her. It must be heart breaking to 1) experience what she's experiencing, and 2) to have to get up on a podium and make a speech about it and ask the public for help to keep people out of hospital.

My heart goes out to the majority of Americans that have common sense. To the anti vaxxers/covid deniers: fuck you. What the fuck is wrong with you.

19

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '21

U.S. military top doc just said this will not be going away and covid will be as seasonal as the flu, the new normal. Probably reason they are just now mandating vaccination for all troops, same as influenza vax is required for active-duty military every year.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '21

: ( unbelievable. so many people are now in a doomsday death cult.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '21

doomsday death cult.

Not really, just get your yearly vax, exercise regularly like humans should, don't eat like shit and get fat, life is good.

2

u/Aggressive_Ad5115 Aug 13 '21

If I forwarded this to any antivaxxers I know all of them would stop watching in less than 10 seconds

Seems hopeless

I'm saying antivax q-types are in a doomsday death cult.

6

u/JustAlexJames03 Aug 13 '21

LET THEM DIE!!! Why should any sympathy be given to people who have been warned over and over again about this? Where vaccines are EASILY and FREELY available?! Nope, I’m done caring.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '21

She is a super strong woman. You hear the sincerity and honesty and her voice as she's trying to fight back becoming emotional. I hate that we have to continue to bend the will of public health to the people that want to drag us down to the graves with them

3

u/ErshinHavok Aug 13 '21

I feel so fucking bad for medical professionals. I can't even imagine the fucking hell some of these people are living.

16

u/abevigodasmells Aug 13 '21

Hospitals should put unvaccinated people with covid at the back of the line. They can pray away their covid, if there's no beds left.

9

u/Existing-Row5660 Aug 13 '21

IMO, those that refuse the vaccine should be refused hospital beds when they show up in the ER. These are the people that deny the truth until it’s too late and then beg for someone to fix it for them. Their selfishness should be their demise.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '21

I wonder if we’ll see a dual-tiered system for vaccinated/unvaccinated? People would actually shit if they did that. But you have to wonder the healthcare system has to make that change to accommodate ignorant, selfish people

3

u/KlopeksWithCoppers Aug 13 '21

Health insurance companies will 100% be doing this soon. They only care about the bottom line and covid hospitalization is preventable now with the vaccine.

1

u/uncletiger Aug 13 '21

Well those who have not had a booster yet be considered the unvaccinated as the boosters begin to roll out?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '21

Hypocritic oath though, but secretly I sort of agree with you.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 13 '21

yep. if they don't the doctors for the prevention, then why trust them for the cure? fuck those people. they made their choice and they should have to die at home.

That is probably the first time I’ve ever been accused of that. So let me get this straight, because my opinion is that these people forfeit their right to medical treatment after they’ve denied the medical recommendations and vaccines from the beginning that makes me a fascist? Please explain? Btw, I am all about socialized medicine. I’m all for universal healthcare and education. What I’m not for are people refusing to do what’s right because of their selfishness and then begging for treatment from these same medical professionals that they call liars. So please, explain how I’m a fascist. Better yet, explain what fascism is because I’m not so sure you know.

5

u/Exarmychicky05 Aug 12 '21

Why isn't she reaching out to the military?

7

u/underage_cashier Aug 13 '21

She is? She said she has feds she usually meets during hurricanes in her hospital

5

u/RedheadedAlien Aug 13 '21

I’m an RN and just wondering what the military would be able to do to help

3

u/motivaction Aug 13 '21 edited Aug 13 '21

In my city in Canada we had medical staff from the military help out. On top of that it's not that difficult to train military staff to be health care aides. It at least reliefs the burden somewhat.

2

u/EleventyElevens Aug 13 '21

If the federal government sent people to help, I would bet money that they'd be criticized for it or people would actively see it as an invasion.

Governors themselves can call for National Guard to go into active duty... but when it's the governors themselves (see: Florida and Texas) devolving into virulent anti-maskers, I would be mighty surprised if they swallowed their pride enough for that. It's insane.

1

u/Rastaman-coo Aug 13 '21

Lol. Not hard to train too be medical staff

1

u/motivaction Aug 13 '21 edited Aug 13 '21

I said health care aides! Do you understand their scope of practice?

0

u/Rastaman-coo Aug 14 '21

Did you say aid or medical staff. Because I see medical staff.

1

u/motivaction Aug 14 '21 edited Aug 14 '21

I'm talking about two different things. The medical staff from the military helped out in the hospitals in my city in Canada.

But also to be an unlicensed health care aide, in an emergency situation, doesn't need a lot of training. The college here was offering a week long condensed course to become an aide in a long term care facility. We are talking bathing, handing out food, changing beds, helping patients to the toilet.

Training military personal to take on a role like that is very easy and it gives relief to completely understaffed units.

In my home country 130 medical and non-medical military personal helped long term care facilities in the day to day operations.

2

u/jumboliahmessiah Aug 13 '21

There’s doctors, nurses and all staff needed to run a functional hospital

2

u/InfinitelyAbysmal Aug 13 '21

Some of the military staff I worked with last covid season were doctors and nurses. Lots of seasoned staff that didn't scare easily. They helped us a lot in our ICU.

1

u/ThucydidesButthurt Aug 13 '21

She literally says in the video the have federal medical personnel in the hospital to help and it’s still not enough.

2

u/Ben-A-Flick Aug 13 '21

Well that was sobering. I still mask up and am vaccinated but that was sobering. I'll continue to do so until next spring and reevaluate the situation at that time.

My friend put it best. It takes longer to put on one stock than it does to put on a mask. Just do it.

2

u/bakahed Aug 13 '21

Just let them die. 100% of covid patients are unvaxxed

1

u/ggabreq Aug 13 '21

thi is very untrue

2

u/SkyShazad Aug 12 '21

Too many people dying, this is a nightmare

That article is not supporting your statement about this specific medical institution nor does it even mention Louisiana. You are implying that this deficit in healthcare providers and beds is due to a policy instead of the actual caseload being the cause. Have they even started terminating contracts? Do you know?

Could you please find an actual article supporting your statement about a lack of healthcare providers in Louisiana due to the specific cause you just specified... from a reputable source?

Please keep in mind you are speaking to a doctor right now so I hope you try a little harder show me what I am currently unaware of.

Thanks so much!

I'm amazed that our Healthcare system has lasted as long as it has. Hospitals pre-pandemic were understaffed and crazy busy. Can't even imagine what it's like to walk into a hospital with a broken limb nowadays. Absolutely insane.

1

u/MrCarnality Aug 13 '21

She is a brilliant communicator. It helps that she is not one of the usual suspects we see all over TV each day. She’s genuine and speaking from a place of urgency.

1

u/ConsulIncitatus Aug 13 '21

Not trying to brag here, but I scored in the 99.880% on my SAT, was a national merit finalist, and am generally pretty good at what I do.

I work with a guy who is so much smarter than I am that he makes things that I absolutely struggle with seem super easy. He makes me feel like a confused ape regularly. He's one of the smartest people I know.

He's also an anti-vaxxer and still believes vaccines cause autism. He refuses to get vaccinated and thinks he'll survive COVID with Ivermectin and Vitamin C. He's moving to Florida next week.

Whatever this is, it isn't rational.
