News Report 🌏 'These are the same tactics of abusers' — Rep. AOC opened up for the first time about being a survivor of sexual assault and slammed Republicans for telling Democrats to ‘move on’ from the traumatic events of Jan 6

Man that’s powerful and as a supporter of hers I really feel bad that she had to endure this because she fights for me and others like me.
I know partisans in this country are EXTREMELY divided right now but I would feel the exact same way if it was like McConnell or something.
Fuck the last guy who was president, he needs to be held accountable for his actions.

I’m a proud supporter of hers, she’s not even 30 and already a congresswoman.
Now I’d probably be embarrassed if I supported a 1 term twice impeached man. Or one of those Congress members that believe in QANON openly, now THAT would be embarrassing

That just hurts to watch. She reminds me of my mom a lot of the time so it just hurts to see that video.

Honestly if the mob did get her it would have been awful these people need to be held accountable. They even beat a police officer to death. How is that even remotely blue lives matter?
43
u/NaiadoftheSea Feb 04 '21
Because what it boils down to is they don’t give a shit about blue lives and it’s just a mantra they use to take away focus from the black lives that have been lost to the blue.

They were only able to "club" him because the mob was there. Every single person who was there played a role in allowing that police officer to be murdered.
Blue lives matter is nothing but a virtue signal for the right and this is a clear illustration of that.

u/trish-from-HR Feb 04 '21
Because it wasn’t actually about politics or having a difference of opinion, it was about being able to get away with violence. As someone who has survived 2 SA’s and an abusive relationship, I learnt very quickly that abuse and assault are NOT about sex or “because you did X thing”. It’s about violence, and more specifically violence they think they can get away with or blame you for.
20
u/zjakx Feb 04 '21
So beyond messed up this happened and AOC, plus the others, had to deal with this shit. At this point Idk what I want more, the rioters (and crooked police who were in on it) to be fully prosecuted or trump to be impeached! Both would be a dream come true...
-17
u/kingsofall Feb 04 '21
But he's not even president anymore. Can you even impeach a regular dude.
6
u/CML_Dark_Sun Feb 04 '21
Trump and Gaetz seem to think so https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/01/23/can-you-impeach-former-president/
8
u/goodbetterbestbested Feb 04 '21
He was impeached while still president dipsh*t. There is precedent for holding a Senate trial after the office holder no longer holds office. Otherwise presidents could do whatever the hell they want the last few weeks of office and face little/no consequences. The prospect of being barred from future office-holding serves as a deterrent.
3
u/BreakingThoseCankles Feb 04 '21
Not only that I'm not paying tax dollars to protect him the rest of his life with secret service when he couldn't protect the capitol building. If impeached he no longer gets a pension and no secret service tailing him the rest of his life.
1
u/str8outcompton Feb 04 '21
Yes, as long as he was in office. The point is so he can’t be in office again.
You know how i can tell you’re a braindead conservative? I can tell because this is a very simple, easily searchable fact that anyone can gather from a quick google search but you’d rather parrot the idiotic notions on fox and newsmax that you can’t impeach a former president. Christ this is something so simple

u/RayLove660022 Feb 04 '21
Coming from someone who has experienced sexual assault and abuse... damn. I know how terrified she was, and I feel horrible. And yes, when someone says “move on”. They’re basically saying “forget it happened, and move on in your life”. It’s hard enough to to cope with it, and when people say “move on”, it’s like a slap in the face. And it feels like you’re getting abused all over again.

Everyone has their own trauma, but when the trauma is fresh “move on” feels like no one cares. When you wait until they can talk freely about it “move on” becomes “hey, don’t let this define who you are”.

“Nothing actually happened to her...” she’s been a target of the far right for awhile and the only reason it’s easy to say “move on” is because her victim hood wasn’t exacerbated that day. Had the rioters made it in and confronted her, God knows what would have happened, but history and common sense shows it wouldn’t have been good. I completely understand why she feared for her life. To say “well nothing happened” simply diminishes the severity of the situation. It’s the same idea of telling a verbal abuse victim “well at least you weren’t beat,” or a physical abuse victim “well at least you weren’t killed.” Is it possible all this is overplayed and exaggerated so that some of these representatives can play victim? I’m not intelligent enough or qualified to answer that. But with rioters shouting “heads on pikes!” And all the hateful criticism she’s received ever over the years, I would assert the fear and trauma is justified.

False. All the Capitol buildings are connected underground for ease of travel and one of the places that was breached was near one of the tunnels to the office buildings. The Capitol was overrun with insurrectionists who were out for blood and one of the places that was breached was near one of the tunnels to the office buildings, to which she fled. The police were totally incompetent to stop the insurrectionists, haven't you seen the videos? And the National Guard was delayed from being called in by Trump himself.
She's not f*cking omniscient, how was she supposed to know in the heat of the moment whether or not they had breached the office buildings? It was mass confusion, no one knew the full extent of what was happening at the time. In fact, it was a reasonable assumption to make that they had breached the entire complex at the time. This was an assumption that her lying Republican colleague Mace also made at the time, though Mace has now changed her story to win political points.
And, in fact, the office buildings were breached. Didn't you see the pictures of the people who breached Nancy Pelosi's office and stole her laptop?
AOC is not "making this about her," she is sharing her own story from that day as she should. And asking other lawmakers to do the same.
Your brain has been rotted by false equivalence; you look for it where it does not exist. There is absolutely nothing wrong with AOC sharing her story about Jan. 6. There is something wrong with you.

I do not particularly like AOC. She reminds of Obama’s BS, saying all the right things, but acting on behalf of the oligarchs.
But, this is real & AOC is a young person.
She & many others were traumitized & I’m happy she’s keeping this attempted insurrection in public view.
The utter glee on the faces of the seditionists was disgusting.
Bullies, one & all, just like Trump.
There needs to be a reckoning. After the treatment of BLM protestors in DC & elsewhere, to allow this to slide would be criminal.
The republican party has lost its last shred of legitimacy.
19
u/wolfTap Feb 04 '21
AOC for the oligarchs? I mean I get Obama but AOC? Why? She wants fair taxes on the rich that work for the people. I cant think of anything she is for that the "oligarchs" would want. I mean what do mega corporations stand to gain from much needed regulations and break ups of monopolies.
2
u/1978manx Feb 05 '21
Thanks for the response. I initially liked AOC, but I notice this trend where politicians say exactly what we want to hear, yet routinely vote for things like a $740,000,000,000 give-away for ‘defense’ in a nation that apparently can’t even defend the capitol building & legislators against a ragtag mob of bigots & wanna-be cops.
You may be correct, but the values she purports vs her votes, like voting for Pelosi as leader, make me as skeptical of her as I am of Bernie.
That said, I appreciate them all for at least starting a conversation on possibilities.

u/goodbetterbestbested Feb 04 '21 edited Feb 04 '21
It's more-radical-than-thou cynical Doomer clout-seeker BS that they're peddling. Anyone who actually achieves anything is torn down because it's easy to criticize when you don't have to deal with real world politics. The only politics they're familiar with are the ever-smaller-splitting leftist sects on Tumblr and Twitter that are popularity contests/debate clubs in which (at best) a few of them hit up soup kitchens once a year and call that praxis.

u/1978manx Feb 05 '21 edited Feb 05 '21
Doomer-clout seeking.
America is literally collapsing & taking the entire globe with it.
I’ve been hearing your type of smug, dismissive nonsense for 50 years from. Centrists.
Frankly, it’s prob too late, but if on the off-chance there’s still hope, radical change is needed.
Even the rightwing folk at the US DOD recognize climate/ecocide is a national emergency.
Income-equality is higher even than the guilded age & over half of America is living in poverty.
But, nah — that’s just ‘doomer’ talk, right?
We should all take heart because there’s like three 30-something politicians out of nearly 400 who tell us what we want to hear.
That has been the case my entire life. It’s AOC now, it was Dennis Kucinich then.
America is dead last among industrilized nations for quality of life. We are the biggest polluter in the world. Our cops murder at many times the rate of every other country and we operate our health system w the goal of making money, not promoting wellness.
But, nah, you’re good at the moment, so just plug your precious ears & ignore reality.
Just wait & see what this next decade brings. It’s no mystery.
But thankfully, we have AOC to spout platitudes while oting for an increase in defense spending.

Hang on, doesn't she work in the canon building which had no riots?
4
u/Emperor_Z Feb 04 '21
The Cannon building is right across the street from the Capitol building and is part of the same complex, connected via underground tunnels
-1
u/squiddygamer Feb 04 '21
Yeah but no rioters entered the building?
It the equivalent of saying my house is on fire but because it connected to the actual house on fire 4 down that your house is on fire?
Pilosi office was actually broken into and she isn't even taking it this far
With all the alarms going off was she scared, of course no one can blame her for that but In danger when she wasn't even in the building that was targeted, that's a bit much.
5
u/CML_Dark_Sun Feb 04 '21

u/Eric_Partman Feb 04 '21
I don’t even know what the guy said.. but the buildings definitely aren’t attached lol.
3
u/way2manychickens Feb 04 '21
They're attached thru the tunnels. With the way the mobs were entering the capitol complex, it wasn't unfeasible that they'd beach the tunnel to the adjoining (maybe that's the better word) offices. AOC wasn't aware what all was breached and well, with the chaos with the capitol police, she didn't know if it was a friend or foe at her door. She knows the hate people have for her, so trust isn't something she giving into easily.
The deleted comment basically said AOC was being dramatic because she thought the mob was at her door. Then said she wasn't at the capitol when it happened.

You're the one making the pointless arguments. Aoc didn't know they didn't breach her specific office area. She heard the capitol was taken over, people breaching all entrances, trying to get into the corridors that lead to senators. She heard pounding and yelling outside her door. She was afraid. She had a physical assault in her past, you tend to get PTSD when you think you're about to be attacked again. What is so difficult to understand?

Mace, a Republican and a liar (but I repeat myself), on Jan. 7, 2021:
"Mace said she barricaded herself inside her D.C. office during the attack. Fearing that Trump supporters she had seen staying at her hotel might target her after she voted to certify the electoral votes, Mace said she decided to sleep in her office that night."
https://www.thestate.com/news/politics-government/article248343115.html
It was mass confusion at the time, no one knew whether they had infiltrated the office buildings, and given that one of the points of entry was next to one of the tunnels to the Cannon building, it was a reasonable assumption to make that they had.
And, in fact, the office buildings were breached. Didn't you see the pictures of the people who broke into Nancy Pelosi's office and stole her laptop?
Mace herself barricaded her office, so clearly she made that assumption at the time. Only when it became politically convenient for her did she change her story.

“They are manipulating the fact that most people don’t know the layout the Capitol complex," she wrote.
“We were all on the Capitol complex - the attack wasn’t just on the dome.”
Seems like you’re cherry picking. We know that the attack was all over the capitol building.
-1
u/booooimaghost Feb 04 '21
They clearly attacked the capitol building and that was everybody’s focus, they evacuated the other buildings on the complex while the capitol siege was going on
3
u/TheGrandZuudah Feb 04 '21
If she’s lying then so is Katie Porter. Are they both lying?
0
u/booooimaghost Feb 04 '21
All Katie porter said is that they were sheltering together. They were still in buildings that weren’t attached to the capitol building and nobody was tryna break into their building

Edit: a word
1
Feb 03 '21
How is it attached? This map makes it look separate ...
6
u/culus_ambitiosa Feb 04 '21
There’s a tunnels system under the whole Capitol Complex that connects all the legislative offices to the Capitol building plus a handful of other important buildings. From what I understand there are walkable tunnels and a subway system but the one from Cannon is only a walkable one.
2
Feb 04 '21
I wondered if there were tunnels or something. Looks like they're very close to one another. How close it came to something terrible!
4
Feb 04 '21
My bad, i should have used nearby not attached. There's about 20 buildings where the capitol is and the that building is one of the closest to it, so i can see why Alexandria felt she was in danger although she wasn't in the main building

The capitol is the complex isn't it? not just the capitol building. Since she was unaware of the extent/progress of the rioters into the capitol so she hid in her office. she was in fact hiding from the rioters. In the capitol.
Supporting the BLM movement is different than openly saying "go attack republicans" she wouldn't openly say that and hasn't because if she did she would be in court for inviting violence/ people would be building cases against her for inviting violence (like how people are building cases against the previous president).
True that republicans were harassed at their homes, I don't think they should have been, just like how democrats were harassed at their homes and should not be harassed.
If people disagree with politicians, then remove them at the next election, and don't go to their property to harass them.
And btw if I do come across like a dick, I don't mean to.
