Imagine having foreign colonies in 2024

You would be surprised how many people still support/make excuses for colonialism. Saying colonialism is bad shouldn’t be controversial but it is.

Well he does have a point. If France were to leave Mayotte to "itself" today, what would become of it?

Better, in the long run.

What has french done for them? Its literally one of the poorest region in all of EU territories.

Typical white saviour complex ass shit thinking that everything is magically better having french's pasty ass plastered all over it

They would be free to run their own affairs like the country you currently live in. Crazy idea I know.

Yeah, in a perfect world maybe. Considering 84% of the population lives below the french poverty line I'm not sure they'd be doing better off without financial support from France.

Maybe I'm not properly understanding it but isn't the bulk of his speech about working together and using the fact they're all "French" (idk much about the geopolitics there) to unite them? I feel like there's some critical context missing here like maybe there was some race divide before hand. Or macron could just be a douche and assume they're jeering him cause they're black or something.

Jesus. We are in turbulent times. Seems like every government on earth is showing their ass.

Those positions are highly sought after by narcissists, grifters, authoritarians, and psychopaths. How many politicians do you see that turn out to be scumbags? Commit crimes? Embezzle tax funds? Deny services to put those funds in their own accounts or for their own purposes? It's the only job position, where if you lack empathy and believe you're superior, you can control the life decisions of millions of people.

Most of the work the government does is data driven, AI could replace most of these people in the future. Objective decisions could be handled better. The main issue with having an AI system although, will be the eventuality of these same people interfering with it once it would be in place. It would be the next focal point to seize control and something we all would need to protect collectively if we don't want the same problems we face today to repeat.

Jfc, not all politicians are bad. Some really do care, they want humanity to thrive. But they are not the ones currently in power, that's why we are seeing governmental failures across so many countries. It's a human issue. Could be personality disorders that cause this, maybe something physiological, but we have to admit we have no plan to catch people masking their intentions. Things like this happen deceptively and quietly. Masked.
