Buckley vs Valeo. The 1976 ruling that effectively lit the fuse to begin the demolition of fair democracy.

Is that the decision that basically allows that rich to buy elections?

That's the one. It can't be a 250m bribe if it's legally an act of free speech.

Edited: i should have left out the question mark.

That's the most uncomfortable lawyer I've ever seen

This is kind of like representing OJ, the country is watching. It's going to be an interesting trial for sure.

We can only hope his children won't release sex tapes and get famous.

Is there a doubt that he did it? There was with OJ

Edit:

u/beneye 14d ago

I don’t think he is. The line of question is based on speculation. There’re no hard facts.

He's fidgeting and looking away from the camera too much

Yeah he’s thinking and not wanting to say too much…I don’t see discomfort. This guy has been a successful lawyer for decades.

I wanna put money on his books

While I think there's a moral argument for his action, I don't suppose it can in any way be legal, right?

I seriously sympathize with American bottom and middle class, your healthcare fails you so much

u/guff1988 14d ago

Why wouldn't it be legal?

The attorney raises an excellent point; money HAS been ruled to be free speech.
