White House announces $50B loan for Ukraine.

u/FeelingTop6325 15d ago
We just want free healthcare
33
u/29187765432569864 15d ago
Just get rid of the deductibles as a start.
13
u/Sgt_Habib 15d ago
Seriously that and cap credit card interest at 10% and student loans at 2%. Start with something
2
u/ParticularFamiliar10 14d ago
Money and weapons to Ukraine have zero impact on whether or not we get free healthcare.
91
u/DirtiestOFsanchez 15d ago
You also give money to israel...tyrants and aggresors
18
16
u/JustLoveToCook1 15d ago
Ukraine is using the money in trying to defend itself from the tyrannical attack by Russian military forces. Israel is using US money to attack multiple countries and clear out the Gaza Strip so that it can establish new land and properties for the benefit of the Israeli people. They are not the same.Ā

u/noisylettuce 14d ago
Zionists are trying to create another homeland to return to, see Zelensky's own words regarding "Big Israel". They are trying capture Europe like they did the middle east.

No shade on Ukraine but have we hit $700B yet? Because that's how much free healthcare for everyone in America would be.
17
u/GigsandShittles 15d ago
If we had single-payer Healthcare, taxes would have to go up. But it would be a lot less than the $600 a month I pay for my insurance now that barely covers anything besides check ups until I hit my $5k yearly deductible. What we have currently is a complete scam.
2
u/defnotajournalist 14d ago
Exactly. If my taxes go up 10%, Iām not sure Iād really feel that much.
Last year my household paid 26k in taxes. A ten percent increase would net to about 30k in taxes? So, 4k less per year in take home income.
However, I also paid 300 per month for insurance. Or, put annually: $3600. My wife pays an additional 400 for her and our child, or 4800. So thatās 8,400 in insurance costs off the top.
I visited the doctor on 2 occasions, netting 400 in charges. She had the baby, netting 5000 in charges. Thats 5400 in medical care after insurance.
So all in, TLDR someone of my same economic makeup would see taxes go up by 4k, but costs go down by 14k, and wind up 10,000 richer annually if we could just pry the parasite of insurance off our collective neck.

How much would we have if we made being a billionaire illegal?
Hope there arenāt a bunch of temporary embarrassed billionaires in this sub.
1
u/ParticularFamiliar10 14d ago
Regardless of how you count it, spending that money had no impact on passing free at the point of service healthcare. There is nothing more preventing congress from passing that today than there was in 2016. Simply not enough support in the House or the Senate.

u/veropaka 15d ago
Instead of being pissy that American companies are getting money to produce items to support Ukraine defense you can be pissy that you don't tax billionaires because that would fund the free healthcare tenfold.
230
u/uncommon-zen 15d ago
Damn thatās a whole lot of money that could have made the lives of the worst off Americans just a little if not a whole lot better
160
u/CuriousCryptid444 15d ago
Theyāre not actually giving it to Ukraine. Theyāre giving it to American companies that will supply Ukraine with weapons and whatever else.
19
u/saucynorman 15d ago
So they funded companies that are probably funded by military to fund ukraine? So they basically loaned themselves 50 billion
104
u/uncommon-zen 15d ago edited 15d ago
And those companies pass down the profits, right?ā¦..right?

59
u/ZestyMelonz 15d ago
Ah yes, trickle down fuckonomics.
5
u/surfer_ryan 15d ago
Just buy into the stock market, because that is how a functional country works, ya know the working class paying into a company to essentially give said company a loan or easier access to one.

Ah yes, the security state will keep workers employed building weapons of war. Perfect
3
u/Altruistic_Astronaut 15d ago
They supply Ukraine with weapons from loans. This is the cost of fighting for UA hegemony, I mean, Democracy.

u/MoodooScavenger 14d ago
Also keep in mind that these are Russian assets being released to them. Not tax payers
-2
21
u/Alucard_117 15d ago
That money was never going to be used for that anyway.
2
u/arcadia_2005 15d ago
That money was already allocated for military use. That money would never have been used for that purpose.
37
u/thrilling_me_softly 15d ago
The money is used to make us new weapons and we give the old weapons to the Ukraine.
12
u/29187765432569864 15d ago
If the Republicans in congress would vote for the bills that would make the lives of the worst off Americans better, then yea, if only they would vote to to do, for example raising the $7.25 an hour minimum wage.
7
u/kmack2k 15d ago
Trump was just elected president, so I don't really understand what you think the Biden administration can do in a month that would have any meaningful impact that wouldn't be undone 0.2 seconds after Trump takes power.
They can, however, set up Ukraine to be in the best possible position for Trump when the West's weakness forces Ukraine to enter cease-fire negotiations. With the most famously oath-breaking nation in history.
2
u/saltysailfish 15d ago
Not in a 2.0 corporate capitalist society, and definitely not for the next while. If youāre working class, you get nothing, not even healthcare you replaceable fuck. Start a business and join the lucky sperm club or keep clocking in.

Stopping Russia stealing territory is good for the average American. It's easy to think that if something isn't happening at your doorstep then it isn't affecting you but that's far from the case. These things affect trade, they affect refugees and they affect the lives of the average American.

Not to even mention trade with Russia. I know it sounds very counter intuitive to want to trade with Russia by actively fighting against them but the only way the western world will trade with Russia in the near future is if they lose this war and have a change of leadership. Want lower gas prices? This is one of the few ways it may happen

90% of the money is spent in the United States. It's a myth that we're just handing the government cash. It's being spent at American factories.
10
u/pion137 15d ago
It's a myth that it goes back into the economy. It goes to the shareholders and lobbyists. Our taxes dollars are washed in this way and have been since world war 2. That's the incentive for politicians. They get to buy stock in all of these defense contractors and "aid" groups, then approve funding and make a profit off the insider trades. They approve spending our money, wash it via things like the chamber of commerce and DoD budget and it goes right into their pockets.
19
u/uncommon-zen 15d ago
I completely understand this but spent on American factories doesnāt always mean spent on Americans
5
u/Lithium-Oil 15d ago
So stupid. The grand portion of this money will go to weapon manufacturer ceos and business interest in UkraineĀ
1
u/Puzzled_Special_4413 15d ago
Literally russian propaganda, if the ones at the top would want the lives of the people to be better they would do it, there is enough of everything to make that possible look at our Live insurance companies they are making Racks of death and misery, where does that money go, tell me?
The only thing that not helping Ukraine does is help Putin and betray every Ukrainian citizen and the democratic world
Do you believe if they would not send the arms to Ukraine the money would magically land in your pockets? No, you live in a capitalist country and expect the poor ones to get money?
Wth are you speaking of? There is no money for you if you have no money, get lost

"Today, the United States Department of the Treasury is announcing the disbursement of $20 billion for the benefit of Ukraine, as part of the $50 billion G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) Loans initiative. "
"Today, the United States followed through on its October commitment to provide Ukraine with $20 billion under this initiative, by transferring these funds to the World Bankās Facilitation of Resources to Invest in Strengthening Ukraine Financial Intermediary Fund (F.O.R.T.I.S. Ukraine FIF), through which they will be made available to Ukraine."
So the 50b is actually 20b.

Trolling and acting in bad-faith will result in commentary removal. Sophistry is included in this category. Concern trolling and "useful idiots" are included in this category. Apologia for immoral crimes against other humans by using obfuscation and intellectualization will result in an immediate suspension. Promoting dehumanization and inequality by supporting immoral policy or laws will result in an immediate suspension. All humans are equal.

Loan... Lol

u/BoarHide 14d ago
You should read up on the lend lease programs. The U.S. loans incredible amounts to allied countries at war, but they almost always profit.
- They donāt actually send money, they send old equipment and use the money to produce new equipment domestically, meaning tons and tons of jobs and an increase in qualified workers
- They usually exchange that aid for knowledge. In WW2, the Brits gave them radar and jet technology, for example, in exchange for economical and equipment support
- That aid goes directly to diminishing the force and threat of hostile governments, in this case Russia. If any government in the west could press a ā50B$ to hinder Russiaās imperialist plans without getting involvedā-button, they would do so in a heartbeat. Itās an incredibly cheap deal.

This is downright criminal. And just you wait to see the money we spend to rebuild Ukraine after this is all over. Meanwhile, people in western North Carolina have had their houses swept away with no government support. Oh wait. $700. My bad.

None of the money is going to Ukraine. That shit is going right to American companies so that they can then supply Ukraine with weapons, that money will then sit within the IMC and it's executives. More money going to the already insanely rich.
Come on Joe, just gonna double down on being the lapdog for the IMC and the rich rather than help out the people that you fucked over, the people you ACTUALLY work for: us. Nope, gonna pardon his own family, and put more money in the pockets of those who don't need it. Even on his way out with nothing to lose he's a spineless fucking president. We can't win, every election is the same: Fascism or corporate dystopia. With Trump we're about to get both. I fucking hate it here.
