That is one intense accent

73

u/DignanZer0 Jul 08 '23

Like a hippy orgy.

In tents.

18

u/Kenstgram Jul 08 '23

I’m going to give you this upvote but I’m going to need you to leave.

13

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I read that as hippo orgy at first. it's early here now.

3

u/urwlcm_photos Jul 08 '23

Like camping… in tents.

1

u/Live-Repeat930 Jul 08 '23

DAMN YOU!!! I wanted to say that!!!! Good job though that is one of my favorite jokes.

1

u/Biengo Jul 08 '23

That's what I was thinkin' but mmmmmm

5

u/bootybandit285 Jul 08 '23

I’m southern and that is the thickest I’ve ever heard

3

u/Silly_Pay7680 Jul 08 '23

Reminds me of Ed from Raising Arizona. Lol

2

u/12altoids34 Jul 09 '23

Give me back my baby you warthog from hell !

-5

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Bro I’ve lived in the south my whole life and I promise you I’ve never heard anyone sound like that. Not even the ole timers in Ohio county which is where God is from.

5

u/pheonix198 Jul 08 '23

This is a bit deeper south than Ohio, bud. This is Alabama, Georgia, Southern Tennessee, Florida, parts of Arkansas and so on. deep Bible Belt. Ohio’s got nothing on the Deep South.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I love how I said Ohio County and everyone just assumes it’s in Ohio. Bud.

2

u/pheonix198 Jul 08 '23

Well, pal, I guess I just skim-read it and believed it was Ohio Country that you said… (like some people say “this is Vols country…”). Have a good day, friend.

2

u/Tattoodude420365 Jul 08 '23

I’m sitting on my couch in Columbus Ohio right now reading this and coffee almost came out my nose, holy shit 😂 I can also second this comment. Ohio is the land of the corn home of Jesus. We even have a billboard that says you’re goin to hell if ya done know him 🌽✝️

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

You misunderstand me. I’m talking about Ohio County, KY.

1

u/Logical-Victory-2678 Jul 09 '23 edited Jul 09 '23

Even THEY thought you said Ohio Country, guy. Just say your state and move on. Not everyone has every county of every state memorized. Lmao I even live in ky, have my entire life, and thought you said Ohio Country. I was like.....tf he talking about southern lol Ohio isn't southern. Neither is ky. It's Mid East US. You may have heard some "twang" but this lady is WAYYYYY South lol it gets WAYYYY thicker the farther you go.

0

u/randomized_smartness Jul 08 '23

Ohio is absolutely not the South.... born and raised in Cook County Georgia..that is the South.... Google maps will confirm whom is correct...and God's country is Fargo, Georgia

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

I said Ohio County. Not Ohio the state. But I would t expect a southerner to be able to read.

1

u/randomized_smartness Jul 08 '23

You've gotta be careful.... Ohio County? Where

2

u/randomized_smartness Jul 08 '23

Ohhhhh Kentucky... so still not southern just inbred hill folk

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Birthplace of bluegrass baby 😎

u/TruthSpeakin Jul 08 '23

I mean, maybe she's being for real? Maybe she really wants to know as not to insult anyone...atleast she asked

163

u/tbkrida Jul 08 '23

She was cool with how she asked. She was just genuinely curious.

57

u/TruthSpeakin Jul 08 '23

Agree!!! She was asking cool, to someone she knew...saying wrong things, to wrong people, can go sideways fast...

77

u/n3w4cc01_1nt Jul 08 '23

shes got the same hair tassles as the other woman so they're friends and she's probably just running it past her friends so she doesn't sound dumb elsewhere and figure out if shes getting gaslit.

41

u/TruthSpeakin Jul 08 '23

Bingo...same comment I made...she's asking so she knows...and doesn't sound stupid elsewhere... actually, kudos to her for taking interest and wanting to know the correct terms

18

u/n3w4cc01_1nt Jul 08 '23

yeah she's doing her best to be part of the community. the twang kinda segregates them as well since sometimes people see them as ignorant based off the accent alone similar to what happens to laborers from cities like ny. it's another thing classists prey on and is similar to how people from their community treat people who speak Ebonics.

22

u/exodendritic Sourcer 📚 Jul 08 '23

I feel like she was actually learning before our eyes, and cared enough to want to get it right. Good on her.

12

u/fonix232 Jul 08 '23

This is how genuine human interaction should be. You don't understand something, you respectfully ask about it, learn, and grow in the process.

2

u/itsyobbiwonuseek Jul 09 '23

Facts. My best friend is black (I'm white) and I always ask her about her hair routine and how she prefers to have it styled (locks, twists, etc.) because the sheer variety of styles fascinates me.

I would love for her to teach me how to braid!

16

u/ifsavage Jul 08 '23

She seems very kind and genuine. I like her

8

u/IHQ_Throwaway Jul 08 '23

She says she doesn’t want anyone coming for her, but I do think she also doesn’t want to accidentally hurt someone with her words. She didn’t know, so she to checked in with a friend. Good for her.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

It’s true it’s a subculture concept that say dreadlocks are a negative thing smh most people just say locks or dreads or dreadlocks it doesn’t matter.

-1

u/Veluxidus Jul 08 '23 edited Jul 08 '23

I’ve heard it’s because initially white people coined the term in reference to black people with the hair feature. They’re dreadful because in the eyes of the viewer at the time, they looked awful

0

u/judy0730 Jul 19 '23 edited Jul 19 '23

She's an idiot!

Is she serious with that stupid southern accent?

She clearly didn't check her mirror before she left her house that day...I mean, her trailor park...

1

u/TruthSpeakin Jul 19 '23

Don't know

127

u/AMCDogecoin Jul 08 '23

Wholesome AF

16

u/Smelly_Squatch Jul 08 '23

Same energy as that one video where the black dudes are playing loud music at a stop light and a white lady pulls up and they think she's trying to be a Karen at them but really she wants to tell them she likes it and to play it louder lol

2

u/slinkshaming Jul 08 '23 edited Jul 08 '23

They have a bunch of cute videos on Tik tok trying to get her to dance. Looks like Booneville Mississippi is where they hail from. Tres mom and her are bffs. Heart warming as hell.

1

u/murdershetwerked Jul 09 '23

Yes! They (tre and his mom) were also on I Love a Mamas Boy on TLC

95

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

[deleted]

12

u/KDS_Heart Jul 08 '23

You're right, he's from the TV show "I Love a Momma's Boy"

Tre.

5

u/fucklorida Jul 08 '23

Attractive af

3

u/WhoBroughtTheCoolKid Jul 09 '23

Watch I love a mama’s boy and he will get much less attractive very quickly.

1

u/KDS_Heart Jul 09 '23

Agreed.

The way his mother and him acted, despicable.

1

u/itsyobbiwonuseek Jul 09 '23

Truth. He is stunning

33

u/Fredotorreto Jul 08 '23

based on her accent who can guess the state ? I’m going w LA or GA

15

u/sroop1 Jul 08 '23

Small town Mississippi.

12

u/MrSllew Jul 08 '23

I’m from Alabama and when the accent out accents Alabama it’s Mississippi.

0

u/Fredotorreto Jul 08 '23

😂😂😂

1

u/mycargo160 Jul 14 '23

I was thinking that "this accent sounds like a dumber, more trailer trash version of the Alabama accent...this is cousinfuck rural Mississippi"

My family is from cousinfuck rural Alabama, for the record.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Not LA. I’m thinking northeast MS.

5

u/ThunderTramp Jul 08 '23

thats how people in small town, North GA, like Appalachian mountain, talk.

1

u/ThatGeo Jul 08 '23

Could be Westminster SC. That whole area is full of "what the hell did you just say?"

2

u/mycargo160 Jul 14 '23

Different accent, but same idea.

I lived in Charlotte for a couple years, and a roofer came to give me an estimate and the only thing I could understand was the drawn out "I'll tell you whaaaat" at the end of half his sentences. Like a South Carolina Dale Gribble. It was really fucking odd.

Lot of that kind of odd down there.

44

u/ThePtape Jul 08 '23

Oh she's got a good soul. Accent reminds me of my dad's side of the fam!

24

u/69yourMOM Jul 08 '23

I live in the south and I can very much tell you this lady is more than likely sweet as can be but has grown up around a lot of racism and prejudice. By that accident I’d say a small town with a lot more open in your face prejudice.

She’s taking advantage of her moment to gain some understanding and break those barriers.

When we can understand we have much more in common than we don’t. These types of conversations get to happen.

16

u/itsyobbiwonuseek Jul 08 '23

"You know, them ponytails."

Bless her heart, I love her.

14

u/ScaredValuable5870 Jul 08 '23

She needs a job as a voiceover artist for animation. One character only though - but done so.damn.well.

6

u/fucklorida Jul 08 '23

Like tree trunks from adventure time

8

u/Isthatnachocheezas55 Jul 08 '23

I love her! Shes just genuinely curious and it made NY heart smile a bit😋

6

u/bomboclawt75 Jul 08 '23

“An yar Hey-yee-add”

1

u/PM_ME_Y0UR__CAT Jul 08 '23

Them ponytails

7

u/beardybrownie Jul 08 '23

Bless her. She is just trying to be nice and not unintentionally offend her friends.

Also, loving the accent. I didn’t know people actually talk like that outside of American movies!

2

u/whyisthissohard338 Jul 08 '23

Sounds like my family reunions.

6

u/xzamin Jul 08 '23

The camera glitch at 00:50 lol

5

u/BAMspek Jul 08 '23

Oh bless her heart

10

u/theperfectneonpink Jul 08 '23

What did the people in the comments of the other video say? Should you just call them locks from now on in case other people feel this way?

1

u/NotYourMutha Jul 08 '23

I’ve heard locs because “dread” stood for dreadful.

1

u/theperfectneonpink Jul 09 '23

That makes sense. Social change comes about one person at a time

11

u/cbrown6894 Jul 08 '23

I honestly have never heard such a thicc southern accent in person and I would have a hard time not laughing at that alone. Tbf I laugh at all accents and imagine people do the same to my midwestern self. oop excuse me

2

u/itsyobbiwonuseek Jul 08 '23

Ope! Scuse me!

(Minnesotan)

4

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Soon as I heard the accent I was prepped to hear some of the most racist shit ever then boom she comes in with kindness.... caught me right off guard!

3

u/Bill_Kabies Jul 08 '23

God damn. Her self awareness makes her sexy as hell.

3

u/vedant0712 Jul 08 '23

Lmao this is like a sitcom in the making

1

u/PriscillaRain Jul 08 '23

They have some funny videos.

6

u/VeraLumina Jul 08 '23

She don’t mean nothin by it. Even though she sounds as dumb as box of hammers she’s searching for knowledge. I think the women are actually good friends because they’ve coordinated their outfits.

7

u/funkymonkeychunks Jul 08 '23

Southern accents get a bad rep. She doesn’t sound dumb, she sounds curious.

1

u/itsyobbiwonuseek Jul 08 '23

Down to the shoes!

2

u/pleaseletmedieplease Jul 08 '23

What part of Georgia are y’all in?

2

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

Where are they from? Is that Kentucky or somewhere close? Why are their accents so pronounced anyways? How did that happen?

2

u/prismo_ Jul 08 '23

He’s got nice teeth

2

u/danceinstarlight Jul 08 '23

NC is my guess but for real, she's trying her best, can't hate on that.

2

u/BlueBox82 Jul 08 '23

That’s actually kinda cute.

2

u/Tisybird Jul 08 '23

At least she asked. Knowledge is power people.

2

u/dMarrs Jul 08 '23

Call em what you want. Thay have had numerous names throughout all cultures for 1000's of years.

2

u/Superb_Ad_5565 Jul 08 '23

Wholesome neighbors asking stupid questions is the basis of every bloc party.

1

u/Yeahhi518 Jul 08 '23

Blows my mind that people from the same Country as me somehow speak with these insane accents 😂

-9

u/handsomecry Jul 08 '23

That accent is absolutely grating.

11

u/Solumnist Jul 08 '23

I love it

0

u/Strange_Ad9081 Jul 08 '23

Instead of assuming, she asked to make sure. Now calling them "lockes" is the correct way of pronouncing them because of the negative connotation of the word "dread." You get a 👍 up for this.

0

u/undarated79 Jul 08 '23

What he shad is what you would classify as salon locks. Well maintained and manicured. You know dreadlocks when you see them. They do their own thing and all aren’t the same size. They also mat up which makes them stronger since if they are too thin, it’s easy for them to fall out. So unless you’re Rasta or practice Rastafarianism most likely you have dreads for fashion and have what are considered salon locks. Having dreads as a form of rebellion also is only a piece of the puzzle.

Baldheads with dreadlocks come replace Rasta. “Midnite Reggae Band”

0

u/theotherbackslash Jul 08 '23

Some people are genuinely trying their best in a rapidly changing world that they didn’t create. At the end of the day, it’s not BIPOC’s job to educate yt people, but if one has the time and energy, one might create an ally

-2

u/ChampionOfdimlight Jul 08 '23

Oh Reggie, I heard of dreadlocks, but shitlocks? That ain't you hair, man. Take that pile of shit off your head.

-1

u/TrollLolLol1 Jul 08 '23

Roll damn tide

-1

u/firecrackerinmyeye Jul 08 '23

That was some world news

-7

u/666BigDaddyEvil666 Jul 08 '23

Dumb folk and alcohol.... What an outstanding combination.

-10

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

my god does this woman speak english? southern america has gone back to the stone age

1

u/QueenAkhlys Jul 08 '23

Aren't those Wix atyle or something

1

u/Galaxy-ranger Jul 08 '23

Holly shit what a accent

1

u/newsasnow Jul 08 '23

Her voice reminds me of Lucy ..

1

u/RoadRunner_1993 Jul 08 '23

she seems fun

1

u/Stardust_Particle Jul 08 '23

So, southern woman, what do we call those things coming out of your head?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

this woman’s got the facebook IQ test accent

1

u/whatacatchdanny Jul 08 '23

This lady is on Windows 95

1

u/CrazyCosmicGamer595_ Jul 08 '23

This was oddly wholesome

1

u/ConundrumMachine Jul 08 '23

Good on her for asking tho

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '23

That chick has a very Dolly Parton vibe to her. I bet she's all the way cool.

Locs of matted hair as a hairstyle can be found all over the world since the dawn of time. The "Dread" part came as an insult by Europeans in the Caribbean, but the name has since been taken back by the Black community and no longer acts as an insult.

No one is insulted by their locs being referred to as dreadlocks, but obviously there are always outliers who will find something to be insulted by. It's a pretty simple situation though, if someone says they don't like being called something, you don't have to agree or like it to respect their feelings.

Also, that guy's hair doesn't even look locked.

1

u/victorcaulfield Jul 08 '23

When a white person says “I have a buddy who’s black and they said….” This is her buddy. She’s checking because she doesn’t want to blend in with the racists in her area. This seems really respectful to me.

1

u/hypothetical_zombie Jul 08 '23

This is surprisingly wholesome.

1

u/cashnflo Jul 08 '23

luv them

1

u/Dan1lovesyoualot Jul 08 '23

their accent is so heavy i love it😭😭 “them paonytales!” 😭😭❤️

1

u/Fabdeuce55B3 Jul 09 '23

Haaayyyyyuurrrrrr

1

u/Grouchy_Pumpkin Jul 09 '23

Do people from these states really sound this inbred ?

1

u/mrot777 Jul 09 '23

She's adorable. Lol. At least she asked.

1

u/NyaTaylor Jul 10 '23

Asking questions and listening. This is silly but this is the way

1

u/superbhole Jul 11 '23

listening to this accent started making my tongue and throat flex like they were bracing for impact

1

u/itsyobbiwonuseek Jul 12 '23

..But who gonna jump on him? 😏

1

u/King_Trujillo Oct 31 '23

Sounds like the person took the definition of dread in a literal sense and confused her...lol
