I hate this goddam state.

63

u/TrevorsMailbox May 21 '23 edited May 21 '23

Me too...me fucking too.

I gotta get tf outta here with my family ASAP. It's just getting worse and worse every single day.

I already got permanently fucked by Florida WC law, and I'm now I'm fucking scared what's going to happen to us next.

59

u/Alternative-Sign-198 May 21 '23

I have two daughters. One has already endured a SA. I can't imagine what would happen if that happened again and a pregnancy followed. I'd fly her to goddam Europe if I had to. I'd dive right into retirement fund and make sure she was ok.

It is frightening being a woman, not to mention a teacher, in this shithole.

21

u/[deleted] May 22 '23

They say they're saving the baby. But the put that poor thing through misery.

6

u/Nerdbond May 22 '23

Im done with Florida, born and raised there, can you disown your home state? Sad thing is only way to change that is to move there and vote.

89

u/MakuyiMom May 21 '23

I feel like forcing the mother to carry the baby to full term is more of a torture/punishment for the unborn child as well as the mother than humanly necessary. A 'fuck you, you should have been a healthy baby' and 'fuck you, you should have developed a healthy baby' to mom kinda thing.... absolutely sick.

34

u/GulfCoastFlamingo May 22 '23

It is so much more than necessary.

Add to this: her body going through all the changes, preparing for the baby. Milk coming in, hormones, etc.

Then I think of any interactions. At the grocery store when someone asks you boy or girl? Have you picked a name?

And 12 hours of labor, 99 minutes of hearing your baby gasp, a lifetime of trauma.

u/Swayze_train_exp May 21 '23

Oregonian here... I hate Republicans so much that I voted for measure 113 which "disqualifying legislators from re-election following the end of their term if they are absent from 10 legislative floor sessions without permission or excuse" I have never been so proud of my Oregonian's. So far 10 Republicans are now disqualified and counting. Sorry not sorry but fuck the GOP.

Generalizations are often the homestead of the small mind.

I don’t agree with their party or a lot of the members in it, that doesn’t discount every single one of them as a shit human. Think bigger

106

Republican ideas = shit

Scary rhetoric

61

19

There we go, no need to placate the bOtH SidEs crowd. They only care about disrupting discourse and protecting Republicans

24

u/w0wagain North America 🌎 May 21 '23

Your party is trash nippleman

15

u/[deleted] May 21 '23

Scary ideas.

25

u/plushelles May 21 '23

Does there exist any criticism of republicans as a group that won’t make you gasp and clutch your pearls?

5

u/IlllIlllI May 22 '23

Name a good one.

2

u/ZincMan May 22 '23

Name any good Republican legislation

1

u/BennyMcbenn Jun 01 '23

It’s not. Republicans are anti-freedom. It’s just that simple.

1

u/RobustNippleMan Jun 01 '23

Maybe, maybe not. I’m making no argument regarding the validity of the Republican Party. I am simply commenting on how dangerous this type of rhetoric is, but other comments want to just assume I’m a republican because I’m not blindly agreeing with the comment then invalidating what I have to say. This is a scary platform with extremely emotional, and close minded people almost similar to far right think tanks….

29

u/LowDownSkankyDude May 21 '23

Nah....if you proudly call yourself and continue vote republican, seeing how they're operating, you're part of the problem.

The gop is overtly shifting into fascism. Proudly, by all outward appearances. Defending them, at this point, in this manner, is disingenuous and comes off as trolling.

Think bigger? Are you kidding?

-27

u/RobustNippleMan May 21 '23

Quite emotional you are. I don’t subscribe extreme examples to entire populations.

23

u/trojan25nz May 21 '23

mad at party oppressing women to actual death

Quite emotional you are

Almost like there’s a reason for it lol

2

u/LowDownSkankyDude May 22 '23

And I don't think there was any emotional tone to what I said, other than bewildered. LoL

Earnestly condoning the behavior of the gop is bizarre, to me.

3

u/trojan25nz May 22 '23

The emotional thing is just a cheap tool to invalidate conversation

“Oh, you show emotion? You’re clearly incapable of demonstrating logical reasoning”

The “fact over feelings” toolset was used mostly during 2012-2016 internet debates, and since then it’s mostly seen as immediate bad faith. Which it was used here in bad faith since you don’t recognise the emotional response, they don’t show how and why it’s invalid, and they’ve employed other disingenuous arguing tactics

All sums up to be a butthurt dude getting mad at words (see, I’m doing the same thing I said theyre doing)

4

u/LowDownSkankyDude May 22 '23

Lmao

You're so right, and my cackling howl is all I have to add

Well said lol

34

u/hey_ross May 21 '23

This is where you are wrong.

When the political debate is about how much money we should give schools vs military, you can have a different point of view and still be a good person.

When the party advocates positions actively harm people because of their gender, orientation or race, you have a moral obligation to leave that group. Immediately. Get out and start fighting them.

Otherwise, you agree and a part of the problem and a shit human. It’s really not that hard and it really is that clear to everyone else.

15

u/w0wagain North America 🌎 May 21 '23

Nailed it

42

u/SoVerySleepy81 2022 Oracle 🔮 May 21 '23

Anyone who willingly supports a political party that does shit like this is a shit person.

-52

u/RobustNippleMan May 21 '23

The Democratic Party hosts more than enough scandals to adhere to your argument. So I guess everyone who isn’t an independent is a shit person. Good logic

11

u/vjcodec May 22 '23

Look at that, there whataboutism man again. Good logic, would be you handing over a blue state with the same practices on abortion or control over body autonomy. Or at least point to some republicans that set better examples. Not many democrat voters have high hopes for the fossils in control now but it’s the best at the moment against a borderline cult movement. It’s like the argument Cadence Owens made about Hitler, that he was good as long as he would stay in Germany. But he wanted more then Germany and that was 😑Yeah great ideology.

2

u/jbach220 May 22 '23

I don’t understand how anyone can down vote you with all of the examples you’ve provided of democrats doing equally deplorable things. Lol Reddit sheep, right?

14

u/[deleted] May 21 '23

Lemme ask. Is Nazi = shit scary rhetoric too?

21

u/blumpkinmania May 21 '23

Republicans are the greatest threat to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness since the end of Jim Crow.

3

u/vjcodec May 22 '23

And being a apologist for inhumane behavior is good. No respect for people that can’t even hold their own to account. Sure there must be some good people but they still all voted in line with this.

99 minutes of pain and suffering for that poor baby and lifetime of suffering for the parents with the memory of that all so some Christian people can feel better about themselves. Disgusting.

85

u/xxxxlayzieboyxxx May 21 '23

The answer is simple vote those bastards out

51

u/wolven8 May 21 '23

They already created new voting maps that were drawn by desantis's buddies that heavily favor Republicans. Also, many democrats have already left in fear of his tyranny.

20

u/oddmanout May 21 '23

Yes, and more people like this family need to tell their stories. People who vote for these assholes were convinced the things this family went through are just a tale told by Democrats. The more people speak up, the less they can deny it's actually happening.

11

u/[deleted] May 21 '23

Stop giving this answer. We did vote, we do vote, and this shit still happens without our vote.

48

u/shelliterate May 21 '23

Fuck DeSantis and his bedmate from Texas, Greg Abbott.

49

u/retribution81 May 21 '23

This has me sobbing for this woman and her family. Fuck This Facist State.

22

u/oddmanout May 21 '23

Ugh, yea. The part where he described the baby being born, gasping for air, then dying really got to me. Holy crap that image was a day ruiner.

9

u/RavenTruz May 22 '23

Ron De Santis is a monster. He killed all those people that didn’t have to die from Covid. He lied about the stats - he’s destroying new college and Sarasota County Schools- he’s an actual sociopath. How can we cope?

7

u/retribution81 May 22 '23

Don’t ask me, I just escaped Texas!

24

u/smokeftw May 21 '23

It's sad. Our country tries to act so progressive and then consistently falls short when people are in need.

7

u/6K6L May 21 '23

After watching this poor girl suffer like this, I'm wondering how much she now owes to have given birth to a dying child. The filth that control that state are out of line

19

u/Magnum_Mantis_MD May 21 '23

Moved from Florida to Germany this fall. So happy to be out of that shit hole. It’s a damn utopia here by comparison.

5

u/pixelito_ May 21 '23

Can they travel to normal state to have it done?

4

u/tobsn May 21 '23

death cult GOP… the party possessed by the devil.

5

u/Ov3r0n May 22 '23

The is no more government of the people in Florida, it’s Government of Desantis. Republicans have turned state and federal government into a tyrannical one that only answers to itself and fears the most popular one in charge

6

u/Pingpingbuffalo May 22 '23

Why are men making laws hindering and controlling women to do with their body ??? AND Masquerading it behind “god”

2

u/its_itchy_u_bollix May 22 '23

Don’t blame men, blame Desantis.

2

u/Pingpingbuffalo May 22 '23

Desantis has a big following of men tho. I feel you though

4

u/MmmmmmKayyyyyyyyyyyy May 21 '23

Thank you for sharing this

10

u/[deleted] May 21 '23

It’s such a shame that a state with such beautiful environmental landscapes is such a shit hole. Going to be a bigger shit hole if Disney leaves.

24

u/Thare187 May 21 '23

Don't act like the priest isn't part of the root problem.

11

u/oddmanout May 21 '23

Sometimes it takes witnessing something or living through something to realize the severity of the matter. I hope that the priest saw this happen and changes his views and speaks out against this horror.

28

u/Low-Firefighter6920 May 21 '23

Catholic priests can't marry or have kids. It just says he is Catholic which is framing the story that even Catholics think this is insane.

11

u/Thare187 May 21 '23 edited May 21 '23

I understand that, but I bet a majority of Catholics are perfectly fine with this situation. He's just upset because it happened to his family.

Edit: quite a few Catholics in this thread. Sorry about your shitty religion that I had the misfortune of growing up around

18

u/the_dead_meme_lord May 21 '23

Catholics aren’t the problem. Extremists are.

Just because people identify being catholic doesn’t mean that we all agree that the woman should endure that pain. Some may say so, but a majority of catholics would agree that if the baby would not survive or the mother would not survive, the pregnancy should be terminated. However, according to doctrine, catholics do say that if the mother and the baby are healthy, they should still have the baby and take care of it to the best of there ability. That’s what republicans “say” there doing, but the penalties that follow for doing an abortion are too high, despite the existence of legislation to protect doctors, so they don’t take the risk and the mother has to suffer.

4

u/joe6744 May 21 '23

regardless of your way of framing the situation, in reality(zero religion), its men/women voted into political positions , enacting laws that control peoples choices of what to do with their own bodies. religion is a stupid fucking argument to bring into how families handle these choices.. the bible is a book of stories that is used to manipulate people. all of these citizens that vote for desantis and others like him are shitty people. people need to unite in voting out these losers.

4

u/[deleted] May 21 '23

Unfortunately, you stand on shakier biblical ground than those who openly deny choice. Your continued apologetics enable them. Sorry the truth hurts.

5

u/Sensation-sFix May 21 '23

I wouldn't even say Catholics, I'd say Christofascists or Christians, cults are dangerous.

3

u/SDcowboy82 May 21 '23 edited May 22 '23

Ron Desantis was in the torture rooms of Gitmo. Of course he’d carry those lessons forward with him.

3

u/vjcodec May 22 '23

Well in the eyes of republicans that baby lived a full life. /s

6

u/Procrastanaseum May 21 '23

It's as dystopian as everyone knew it would be. These monsters are forcing themselves onto all of us.

2

u/positive_energy- May 21 '23

Heartbreaking

2

u/joe6744 May 21 '23

the people who vote for the politicians that enact these laws are not good people either. the voters that keep these politicians in office are real scum as well.

2

u/GrymmOdium May 22 '23

AND she's buried in debt because of this. Making her less likely to be able to afford to even TRY again, and that's only IF they could stomach trying again after this unimaginable trauma.

If DeSantis gets out of Florida without an assassination attempt, I'd be shocked. Hell, if Florida isn't razed and abandoned, I'd be shocked, too.

It's already a disaster for those sensible folks living there, but one of these terrifying stories is going to happen to someone with nothing left to lose and push them past their psychological limits. There WILL be violence (beyond what they're already doing to people) before this is over. At least historical presidents would imply as such.

4

u/Dianachick May 21 '23

To allow that family to suffer, to allow that baby to suffer, and to allow that baby to fight for breath he was never going to get, for 99 minutes… is just fucking evil😡

2

u/sashathefearleskitty May 21 '23

I’m gonna go on a hunch here and say that they probably voted for Ron Desantis and this is their leopardsatemyface moment which is horrible..

3

u/Dissmass1980 May 21 '23

Why not go to a state that will perform an abortion?

7

u/DocHalloween May 22 '23

This is an interesting question. I can postulate that it may have something to do with insurance coverage for many families!

She was beyond the time in which a chemical abortion would typically be provided. So she would be looking at surgery. Possibly a more complex surgery depending on how far along she was in her term, and the fact that the genetic defect her son suffered from also caused the lack of amniotic fluid to form. I am not an obgyn, but I do know how insurance works.

Insurance coverage is not national in many many cases. Many local state markets, Florida included have smaller HMO or EPO networks that will not allow you to travel and see a doctor in another geographic region and still be covered under your policy.

She may also require a referral from her primary care provider, which may not be possible for seeing an out of state provider.

Even policies with out-of-network coverage, open you up to balance billing. Which is a hideous thing, if you've never googled what it is.

So it is reasonable to assume that for a family like the one in the story, to travel for a "nonemergency" surgical procedure means that they would be footing the entirety of the bill on their own AND ALSO not being protected under their insurer's negotiated pricing agreement. So basically, the hospital can charge "MSRP" for the procedure.

If this mother would need surgical intervention, and chose to travel away from her coverage area she's looking at market price for an obgyn (surgeon), several nurses, an anesthesiologist, often an assisting obgyn, the fee for the facility, medications, food, the PACU, and the hospital room for a few days until you're discharged. Plus travel fees, and time away from work for her and her spouse. And this scenario is considering everything goes okay, and there isn't a problem that requires other interventional care like the ICU or an extended hospital stay.

This also works the same if you have a cancer diagnosis, and wanted to see a specialist who studies your specific type of cancer, but they are out of state! It's very restrictive.

So this mother and her spouse may have considered this travel option, but faced the reality of a mid five or six-figure medical bill and been unable to compromise their financial stability, and that of their four year old son and instead chosen to pay the physical and emotional price.

All this setting aside the fact that she would also need to navigate the logistics of finding a care team, traveling for their own medical assessments, pre-surgical screenings, and all the other normal hoops that you jump through when getting routine care. And paid those out of pocket too.

It can be financially insurmountable.

1

u/Dissmass1980 May 22 '23

Wow. I can’t believe how much of a failure this country is when it comes to health care.

1

u/blkonblack May 22 '23

But who did they vote for?

0

u/KOMODO_BOI May 22 '23

Wait hold on, you guys do realize that in order to get pregnant you need an unprotected bare internal ejaculation right? This is just ridiculous, you won't need abortion if you're not pregnant in the first place, whole state uproar means pregnancy (and from what i get teen pregnancy also) is common in there? That's wild.

0

u/ExplorationChannel May 22 '23

I thought it was called Potter sequence, not potter syndrome. No offense.

-31

u/SquidMan_InTheOcean May 21 '23

Who did the family vote for? It’d be a better story if it was for desantis

12

u/oddmanout May 21 '23

Often times people don't understand the full ramifications of the things they do and the people they support. It takes a "worst case scenario" happening to them for them to realize the things others knew all along. Even if these people voted for DeSantis, they're currently speaking out against the draconian, horrible tortuous law. Rather than say "that's what you get!" we should welcome them with open arms, let them tell their story without sneering at them, and hope that their story helps convince others who thought just like them to change their views.

In other words, we want people to change their views. Don't be an asshole to people who change their views regardless of what convinced them.

So they forced a mother to birth a child that would choke to death in front of her, and there was nothing she could do but watch in horror and guilt.

In the name of the children, I condemn thee child to a traumatic birth and horrific death!

1

u/Wise_Ad_253 May 22 '23

If a pregnant woman losses her unborn child due to complications from a car is screwed if she cannot pass the dead child naturally. Ron won’t allow it.

1

Florida going full Gilead, awesome.

1

u/Powerful-Swimmer8791 May 23 '23

Absolutely horrific

1

u/realSatanAMA May 24 '23

Even if you disagree with their law, if they have that exception and doctors don't want to have to fight the government on every abortion that falls into that exemption.. they really need some way for the state to green-light exempt abortions. Once they have the law modified to allow for state-green-lighting for abortions.. all you would need to do is stack that board with pro-choice people and you can have legal abortions again 😇
