Looks like there’s now a clash with the Rolex 24 and we know which one all the big drivers will prioritize…

u/Murbanvideo Dec 27 '23

It will likely only affect a few drivers but there are definitely engineers and crew members that were planning to do both. Feel for them for sure

How many big names did you expect at Dubai? And how many of these big names were also running the Daytona 24h?

Heart of Racing by SPS and Luca Stolz will withdraw from Dubai 24h. Those are the only ones I know off the top of my head that won't be there.

So how much does one need to fork out for a race seat? No shortage of rich people in Dubai

u/Academic-Fish-3540 Dec 27 '23

10k+ Most drivers are not from Dubai though and you need a racing licence to drive so it’s not like they can just go ask rich people around town.

There's other factory drivers available.

Heart of Racing is likely going to pull out.

Would probably be 30-50k GT4 and 70-100k GT3

It's not just having the money it's having the correct race licence too

Quite strange that this is the way we get a message like this, there is nothing from the promoter, but it's Creventic, so...

u/sportscarstwtperson Dec 27 '23

They have communicated, check the Dubai Autodrome channels

When's the last time there were two 24hr races on the same day?

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.

It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.

Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.

Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Do you know how many English natives make a mistake when spelling Dutch names? And therefore bastardize their names? Like Rinus Veekay? (Rinus van Kalmthout)

Or using capital letters in the word "van"?

Jan van Lingen

J. van Lingen

Van Lingen (!)

Lingen, Jan van

Lingen, J. van

It’s a bot, so it probably doesn’t know.

Bad bot

Are you sure about that? Because I am 99.97316% sure that Competitive-Ad-498 is not a bot.

Correct. I'm not a bot.

And I know I react on a bot. But when a bot starts to nag about grammar, then i will do the same.

I’m not a bot. But I delete bot accounts like a bot. Does that fucking count - bot? Shrugs like a bot…

But that means you lose either the livetiming monitor or the gaming monitor to sub for a race that is much less significant.

I booked leave to attend the race and take pictures.. Now I am working on the new date and I can’t change my work shift… 🤬

Might as well cancel the race

7

u/Dexter942 Dec 27 '23

Dubai pays Creventic too much for that to happen.

6

u/Bryan17g Dec 27 '23

I’m curious what RSL will do since it’s probably all hands on deck in Daytona as always.

Wish I could watch Dubai 24. Problem is that I'm already gonna be at Daytona to watch it live.

The 12hrs of Mugello will probably be postponed too. The container return date from Dubai is now very tight, being the back end of the week before IIRC. I can see any Dubai 24hr entrants that suffer significant damage dropping out of Mugello.

Creventic where, well are stuck with a bit of a problem cancelling would still leave them with all the containers en-route and in the wrong place, and costs of getting the containers back to Rotterdam, Barcelona and London. Delaying any further would impact on to SRO world challenge Europe, British GT and Creventic 24hr series Mugello.

Situation in the region is troubled. I wonder whether it may affect WEC's opener in Qatar... Seems less likely, however we have to be ready for any scenario.

4

u/Disastrous-Force Dec 27 '23

WEC Qatar is an air fright (fly away) round, rather than sea containers. One of the things the Qatari money is doing for WEC is bringing more cash for fly away rounds.

Le Mans > Brazil is the next fly away then USA > Japan. Brazil > USA is sea freight and so is Japan > Bahrain.

Good to know. Thank you for the clarification.

2

u/cypher50 Dec 27 '23

Should have just canceled because we all know which race will get priority.

16

u/kjm911 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 #6 Dec 27 '23

Why cancel when 90% of the field are just amateurs who want to go racing

4

u/Murbanvideo Dec 27 '23

Cancelling wouldn't make sense. 99% of competitors are gentleman drivers that have paid to race. It's an amateur racing series.

1

u/vroomvroompanda Dec 27 '23

Well I'm going to be at daytona 24 so guess I'm watching that one lol

Basically, the reason is by the war. I really wonder they able to postpone again.

It seems like the war would take a long while, it wouldn’t end very soon.

4

u/knifetrader Dec 27 '23

The war - or at least the Houthi missile attacks - are taking place in the Red Sea, which is on the westside of the fairly enormous Arabian peninsula, whereas Dubai is on its eastside, i.e. hundreds if not thousands of kilometres away and thus probably as safe as a place can be in that part of the world.

The problem is that the cars are shipped on container freighters that typically go through the Suez canal and the Red Sea and which now have to take the longer route around Africa, hence the delay. But once they get to their destination, the race should be able to go on pretty much as planned.

Time to sell a kidney and get my first big break in racing.
