Question Social Work License Exam

I recently finished all my degree requirements for BSW at UVic this month and will graduate in Spring 2025.

I am from Saskatchewan and was taking BSW distanced. I took my pre-SW at the university here before transferred to UVIC.

Based on what I know, those who completed their BSW in SK can be a registered social worker by registering at SASW and paying the fee. I think there’s no exam to take to be registered.

My question is, how different is it in BC? What’s the process to be a registered social worker? I’m interested applying at Island Health.

Does anyone walk dogs for ElderDog?

I had a regular after work dog walking gig that fell through recently and looking for a dog to walk!

I walk dogs and foster animals through the SPCA, but looking for something close to home (I life downtown) and after work.

I went to what I thought was ElderDog, but it appears it's a national application form I'm filling out. Is there something specific to Victoria? Also, the application form said there was a fee for volunteering. Is that true?

Thanks!

EDIT: I had a better look at the application form (the one elderdog.ca - is that the correct site?) and they 'encourage' volunteers to become members for $20.

Help Me Find Restaurant or pub recommendations

I have a 4 hour break tomorrow and want to take my mom for lunch. I don't go out to eat much so I'm having a hard time thinking of where to go. We live by the 4 Mile and on the occasion that we do go out we go there (but honestly the food is more of a miss than a hit).

Is there anywhere that's easy to get to in Saanich that has a nice Christmas atmosphere and good food that you can recommend? We could go downtown, I just worry that parking will be tricky and I only have a few hours. Thanks all!

Imagery What are the big circles on the field at Beckwith Park for?

I just spotted that in addition to the standard soccer field markings, the field at Beckwith Park seems to have some large circle markings overlaid.

Or at least it did at the time this Google Maps sat photo was taken.

My first thought was the big rings are just some Google overlay, but it looks like they're actually on the field itself just like the soccer markings.

Second thought was track & field events like Shot Put etc. But all the field events I can think of have more of a uni-directional or conical area of activity.

Anyone know what the big rings are for?

UPDATE: Looks like it's for cricket! Cricket field diagram

Not sure why the outer ring is offset, all the images google shows me of "cricket field markings" shows centered rings, but apart from that the markings are a solid match for Cricket.

Cheers, who knew we had not one but two cricket fields in town!

Elliptical machine, rower-ing machine and the 2 knock down cabinet things. I've tried W.I.N., Salvation army, nobody wants them because they are "too big and take up too much space"

All the things are in decent to very good condition and function. Take it all or take nothing.

Happy Christmas and Merry new year!

Controversy How is it possible to have the 3 blocks of Blanshard between Yates and Pandora consistently under construction for the last 4 years?

The fact that every major thoroughfare in this city seems to be limited or blocked at the same time for construction is one thing. But how does this one stretch get ripped apart every 3-4 months over such a long period of time?

Colwood hires first family doctor for municipally run clinic - Victoria Times Colonist

Finally!! My doctor mentioned this idea to me a few years ago. It makes so much sense to me. C'mon Saanich council, make this happen in our area.

TL/DR - Colwood is opening a medical clinic and hiring family doctors. The municipality will handle the adminstrative jobs while the doctors do what they were trained to do. Doctors are paid $280k. Council is hoping to build it up to handle 10,000 patients

Have You Received Your Mail Yet?

Have you received your mail that was scheduled to be delivered during the strike?

Side note: As much as I need (want) my pending mail delivered I think forcibly ending a labour strike is BS. For a crown corp those workers get paid shit for how hard they work.

I’ve received mail delivered by Canada Post since the strike ‘ended’
I’m still waiting
Mail? I’m not 90.

Are there places to rent where I can bring my dogs?

I (20f) am planning to work in Victoria over the summer for a practicum. I did go to UVic for a year, and i’d like to come back. But, I need to take my dogs with me this time. I have a 13y/o dachshund, and a 9y/o chihuahua/dachshund mix. Small, old dogs and don’t do much damage lol.

I’m coming in here to ask if there’s any hope in finding a place I can bring them that’s not gonna cost me like $1,500 a month on my own.

Thanks for your help!

Lost & Found To the driver with the wallet on top of his car (Douglas/Hillside) as he almost drove off.

Yesterday, you were on stopped on Government waiting to cross Douglas onto Hillside. You inched forward and I noticed you left your wallet on the top of your car.

I grabbed it and stuffed it into your window crack before you took off, you expressed gratitude.

BUT I didn’t have time to grab the card that had already fallen out of your wallet, onto the street behind you where another car was already on top of. The light was already green and we all had to go. So you may be missing a piece of plastic. I didn’t steal that shit. Hopefully nobody is having a good time at your expense, although - it may still be on the ground if u wanna look.

Cheers mate.

Victoria Humane Society

My spouse and I have been filling out applications for various dogs with Victoria Humane Society for months and we have not received a single reply. They recently had an adoption event where only "approved applicants" could participate. We emailed them asking how do you become an approved applicants, we have never been contacted to be interviewed or meet with VHS.

I am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this as well? I honestly didn't think it would be this hard to adopt. We are homeowners in a pet friendly building and I work from home. I thought we would be a shoe in. I am wondering if this level of non-communication is how they generally are, or if it is just me.

Help Me Find Vets with payment plans

I’ve been looking at vets recently for a dental surgery for my cat but it seems that all the vets I’ve looked at only accept payment up front I was hoping someone knows any vets that accept payment plans because while this is not an urgent issue or else I would immediately pay all at once, I’ve been to vets before outside of Victoria for an identical procedure and they accepted us using a payment plan after the procedure.

Fitness (yoga) studios without heat

Hi! I am visiting for a few weeks and pregnant and would love to join a yoga studio while I’m here but trying to avoid heated classes.

I would love locals recommendations for yoga/pilates/ or barre classes without a heated room.

Thanks in advance!
