Uncharted 1 Just wondering
Well I just bought the Nathan Drake collection. I started to play the first one. Now that I've played it for a few hours I find it a bit repetitive. You know, I managed to get out of the old temple and the German submarine. Now I'm in another jungle searching for my crashed air plane and the girl with the camera. It's just shooting bad guys. I shoot them, move on for a few minutes, maybe some climbing and jumping edges to edges. And then shoot bad guys again. Is it just that or is there going to be any like puzzles and stuff? I'm not really just shooting and killing...

I won't lie to you, a lot of the Uncharted series could be boiled down to "shoot bad guys and climb around" and it's an understandable position considering where you're at with the first game. I promise you there is so much more in the next games but if it doesn't feel right, it's okay to just not vibe with stuff others like.
The start of the overarching story is the most important part of UC1 imo. Once you get to UC2, the pacing and puzzles ramp up along with its longer length, extremely satisfying set-pieces, depth of story, etc. Naughty Dog adds more diverse and responsive climbing mechanics and more tools for Nathan (and eventually another main character in Lost Legacy) to break things up even more as the series goes on. The story is great once it gets its hooks in you; you'll get to watch these characters and more grow and change over years.
If you get deep into UC2 and still don't like it, then it's probably just not a series for you, and again, that's okay.

Just replayed the train levels from 2 yesterday. Still one of the best game levels ever designed

It's so damn good. I was literally thinking about the train level from UC2 in part of writing that reply to op

Well it looks very nice (playing ps5) and all the comments are telling me to play on. Maybe I'll just push through this first part and wait for something awesome🙂

As much as I love the first game, it IS mostly that same pattern. You wouldn't lose too much by just setting the difficulty to Explorer so that you can breeze through the story. A first playthrough should only take about 5-7 hours on the easiest difficulty.
I do think the story and the experience of getting to know the characters is enjoyable, though. I wouldn't recommend skipping the game entirely.

Hang on until UC2, then see how you feel. The first game is not as good about the balance between shooter, platformer, and puzzle game, but they get amazing as you continue on.

That's technically the entire series it's an action adventure, but it gets better with the later games. This is the first installment it will also get better the more chapters you finish and progress later on you'll have more puzzles and areas to explore to finish puzzles, but there is no shortage of fight encounters. The expectations for this series are basically "Historic discovery, defeat the bad guy, be the hero get the girl." If you want exploration and puzzles + side puzzles, I'd recommend the Tomb Raider series. You can get the definitive survivor trilogy bundle to get access to the most recent games.

Yeah, I assumed as such. I played the tomb raider like a decade ago with Xbox and I really liked it. The reviews I've read about Uncharted were so convincing that I decided to go with it. Also the YT videos were so awesome and beautiful to support that decision. I'll give UC a chance, maybe it will get me hooked.

I always think back to how much of an upgrade this was to the gaming space back when the ps3 first released. Back in the day this was pinnacle game play ðŸ˜. Using my dual shock to balance over that fallen tree.

There are puzzles but the first game is basically just shooting and climbing. Other games are way better

U1 is pretty repetitive, specially in its first third.
It is there worst of the series BUT the game itself gets better the more you play it. The vibe and atmosphere changes over time to something more sinister. It’s really worth it once it’s all done. The last quarter of the game is awesome and unpredictable

U1 is definitely the weakest and most repetitive. U2 won game of the year. 3 and 4 were both nominated. And U4 is lightyears advanced in both gameplay mechanics, visuals, scope, and scale than the first 3. I’d say keep moving forward. But if after 2 you don’t like it then it’s prob not for you, and that’s ok.

The games get better as the series goes on.
