Cuccidati (italian fig/prune cookies)???
Has anyone seen any cuccidati at all in the triangle this season? It seems like weβre lacking a true old school Italian bakery which is a bit surprising considering the amount of transplants from up north here, my folks included. Would love to be proven wrong though π

There was a NY/Italian bakery called Taste of Brooklyn on Salem Street in Apex, it closed, and a new bakery took over a few months ago. I think it's The Angry Yankee and I see pignoli cookies in some of their pictures.
My in laws are NJ Italians and we ended up making our own Italian cookies this year bc it's so hard to find them.

Haha love the name! I would totally take a pignoli at this point so thanks for the recommendation. Hope your cookies came out well!

Also you may wanna check Golden Hex European market - they carry Italian products, as well as world market.

We 100% need an honest-to-goodness Italian grocery with the cookies by the pound, fresh pasta, fresh bread, fresh ricotta, feta in brine at the deli counter you purchase by the pound... The works. Sigh.

I'll try again. It's been a few years, but my first 4-5 attempts left we wanting more.

In my kitchen, yes. π. I made about 140 this year.
Utica Bakery in Apex is a strong recommendation for an Italian Bakery. They have a somewhat limited menu and days right now but it is very good. They opened in 2017, then closed a few years back, and then operated on random days in Capriflavors in Cary.
As of November they reopened at their old location. They used to have cuccidatis, but I didn't not see them as an option since they reopened. It isn't a big deal to me as I strongly prefer my own, but it is nice as an option.
All of their stuff is very good overall though.
I bet they'll start to have them available again sometime soon.
