Carolina by Taylor Swift

This song screams Joel and Ellie to me (not their relationship, but rather their individual journeys through their post-apocalyptic world). I believe that this is mostly because of the way it sounds, with some support from the lyrics. Here is the link: https://youtu.be/egxyRSb_XtI?si=cZYdSnvqfkDj2GkU

PT 1 VIDEO The Last of Us Part 1 Motion Capture | Epic moment in making

Well, there's hardly any moment from this series that is not epic. Correct if I am wrong.

For me, both Part I & II are well-written and well-executed. Nothing against the ones who do not like Part II. Choices and opinions vary from person to person.šŸ˜‡

General Discussion So I finally played Part II and wow what an ending Spoiler

I was completely blown away by the story at every turn, when I was in Abby's day 3 I was sure I was about to beat the game, unaware there was still 6 whole hours for me to actually see the credits lol. I basically spent the entire night until sunrise on Christmas morning just hoping I was about to finish the game while every fade to black lead to yet another chapter/scene. This is were my problem begins with the ending.

I understand the decision to make Ellie throw away her "happy" ending on a farm with her family in pursuit of revenge once again to finally quiet her nightmares. I was in awe of the whole California segment and didn't expect that at all. But was it all actually needed? To have Abby and Lev captured and left to die just to be miraculously saved by Ellie at the last second so they can even the score? I think the ending went on too long and and hinged too much on a ridiculous amount of unlikelyhoods. There was no need for the confrontation to actually happen for Ellie to realize she was throwing her life away and understand what Joel really wanted for her. A cutscene where she arrives in California too late only to find Abby and Lev already gone and their trail gone cold, while we see them finally finding the Fireflies would have been the perfect ending and a nice set up for a possible part III.

I understand Tommy's rampage during most of the game as response to the trauma of his brother's brutal death, but his role in the epilogue was awful. He of all people should have been the one to encourage Abby to let go and accept her blessings, instead of pointing her to another suicide mission again after being spared twice and ruining his marriage after his miraculous survival. It's even more shocking that he survived Abby, him dying at the theater along with Jesse would have been more impactful and made Dina and Ellie's argument much more impactful on both sides.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. Incredible, visceral game, kept rooting for both sides and was absolutely thrilled to see where Ellie and Abby's bloodbath would lead to. The ending should have been way simpler, and Santa Barbara should've been just a cutscene where Ellie realizes she lost Abby's trail for good and finally lets go of her quest for vengeance and has her breakdown before returning home and realizing the life she threw away. Though I suppose this wouldn't have been as impactful without her missing her guitar-playing fingers.

A minor disappointment, I guess, with all of those flashbacks in the campaign, we never got to see Joel's POV when he was being tortured by the Salt Lake crew and before Abby finally killed him. This game lacked a lot of confrontational dialogue between both parties of the feud, and a scene in-between the beatings where Abby confronts him and they have an argument that ends in him unapologetically making his point and stating he regrets nothing would have been another great flashback moment for his character.

PT 1 QUESTION How replayable is The Last of Us Part 1?

I'm playing on PC and I have a pretty decent system, but how replayable is it? I've never played TLOU but the first game looks good and I know Part 2 is coming to PC next April.

I don't wanna drop $30 on a game just to never play it again after finishing it. Like I'm sure the story is great, but for a game like RDR2 where I just keep coming back to it, I hope this is like that.

PT 1 QUESTION Faint white circles causing flickering

Has anyone else encountered this graphics issue where faint white circles appear all around the screen, causing a flickering affect on grass and other surfaces?

Nearly every in-game graphics setting is at the highest setting. My AMD software is all default apart from added supersampling, and turning that off doesn't fix the issue either.

Any help fixing this would be greatly appreciated

PT 1 DISCUSSION I could NEVER play this game on a higher difficultyā€¦

Post image
1.5k Upvotes

I recently bought The Last of Us part 1 on pc, and Iā€™ve been having a blast, and Iā€™m playing on the easiest difficulty since I really just want to focus on the story on my first playthrough.

Today I finally reached the hotel basement, and holy crap. I didnā€™t die a lot, but the sheer amount of resource management required to make it through is insane. I luckily didnā€™t have to fight the bloater as I just ran for my life, but the next time I might not be so lucky.

How do people play on higher difficulties? Was it easy for you from the beginning or did you die a lot?

I donā€™t know if I should play on normal difficulty on my second playthrough or jump straight to hard, but I absolutely suck at gaming, and the fact that the easiest difficulty got me trembling in fear is not a good sign lol. Iā€™m utterly impressed by anyone playing on survivor or grounded, you have my respect.

PT 2 QUESTION What good does capacity upgrades?

Hey guys i am playing part 2 for the first time. I understand everything in terms of gameplay, but do you ever upgrade capacity on guns besides achievement. I hoped that atleast i could have more bullets in inventory, but all it does is just extend magazines when most of the time you dont even have that many bullets to hold 6 shotgun shells for example.

PT 1 QUESTION Love the game, but Pittsburgh is driving me CRAZY

I recently started Part 1, and I've been loving it. However, like the beginning of Bill's Town, I feel like the environmental puzzles are mostly useless, and extremely complicated for no reason, like the "hints" will straight up lead me in the wrong direction, and the underwater part after Joel falls, where I'm stuck currently, is genuinely IMPOSSIBLE for me, I've been looking everywhere, watching guides, and keep in mind, these are things that are in the game regardless, so changing difficulty won't do anything, I just can't keep up with where they are, and I've replaced them plenty of times, and I don't want this chapter to take me hours just because of some puzzle underwater, so could someone please tell me how long this section lasts, possibly a guide of how to do it, and any tips?

My brother always tells me they couldā€™ve cloned my personality to create Ellieā€™s character. So when I saw someone do the same thing , I stayed awake all night to make him this for christmas.

A token of my appreciation for him introducing me you could say. And the boy loved it!

PT 2 DISCUSSION Just played 6 hours of Last of Us 2. Here are my thoughts

First and foremost, this is not hate speech. I strongly oppose anyone who dismisses these games by simply labeling them as ā€œwoke.ā€ Such criticism is unconstructive, and I find it frustrating. I want to make that clear. Personally, I appreciate Abbyā€™s muscular physique; in fact, I wish she had been depicted with even larger muscles.

Now, moving on to my critique:

Overall, the game excels in many areas. The gameplay is smooth, the acting performances are compelling, and the soundtrack is outstanding. The story itself isnā€™t bad; itā€™s acceptable but doesnā€™t quite reach its full potential. Although I havenā€™t completed the narrative, Iā€™m aware of the general plot and its conclusion. There are genuinely heartwarming moments throughout, but when reflecting on the entire story, it becomes apparent that it could have taken a different direction to achieve greater impact. The overarching storyline and the message it attempts to convey feel somewhat misaligned, perhaps even superficial.

Upon further investigation, I discovered that Neil Druckmann had significant creative control over this game, reportedly making substantial changes to Halley Grossā€™s contributions, including altering the ending during development. Regardless of personal opinions, itā€™s important to recognize that Druckmannā€™s storytelling decisions have been contentious. Some successes of The Last of Us Part II seem to occur despite his direction rather than because of it.

In conclusion, while this game has many commendable qualities, I believe a superior version could have existed. Although I appreciate aspects of The Last of Us Part II, it lacks the distinctive spark that made the original The Last of Us so impactful.

Edit: To all asking for alternative stories, here are few of them:
