Technically there is no behind or in front of, it's based on your perspective

u/nonlogin Oct 14 '24
Technically there's only one perspective - the one on the image.

u/Luxio111 Oct 14 '24
Technically there's more, they just aren't shown in the image.

Technically there are infinite perspectives not shown in the image, and if we compare the number of perspectives with the team in front vs all other options we'd see an infinite number of both. But this raises the question, which is more probable? There is an infinite number of perspectives with the team in front, but if we define in front as from a perspective in say a 60° range that would leave 300° of possible perspectives where they are next to or behind. There would also be an infinite amount of perspectives in this 300° range. But 300°>60° so we can say that there are more perspectives where they are not in front because there's more available space to create perspectives from. This is my proof that all infinities are not equal, and therefore they are more likely next to or behind the booster rather than in front. Also sorry for this comment but this is what popped into my brain reading this.

Don't be sorry, it's an interesting thought, would be interesting to hear what a mathematician says about this because as far as I know these infinities aren't actually different sizes even though it seems like it.

Even more technically, they are in a location that is neither behind or information of a booster catch, as that picture was taken before launch.

Even with that many people, are they going to be strong enough to catch it? It's super heavy.

If we consider the side with the "chopstick" arms to be the front (which makes sense) then they're indeed standing behind it.

u/Aftermathemetician Oct 14 '24
It’s a rocket, and even though this one sometimes flies backwards, the front is universally the pointy end.
2
u/AttemptNu4 Oct 14 '24
Nah its catching a rocket, but were talking about the chopsticks tower that caught the rocket not the rocket.

How to motivate your team; stand there when it comes back, if it fucks up you all die. And now they've gone 1outta 1

How many out of these people are focusing on getting space Karen to look at shiny things so they get things like this done,?
1
u/Grizzly_F-in_adams Oct 15 '24
Technically the booster is behind them, but they are in front of the of the booster/Starship... because it's the shiny side. The heat tiles would be the back imo.

We stand in FRONT of our brake jobs!

Technically, this rocket had never flown so it wasn't successful at the moment of the picture.
1
u/Lilyistakenistaken Oct 15 '24
No, it did fly. This picture was from after flight 1, as shown by the hot staging ring.

As far as I know, the Starship was lost and didn't land properly.

This setup seems a bit careless to me.
- The base of the tower is quite flimsy
- the white tanks on the right are not protected from flames
- the arm on which the rocket hangs has very flimsy joining points with the tower
- the whole site has 0 flame deflectors
Could this be CGI?

Man it clearly had enough care to work, shit looked sick as hell yesterday. And dont worry all the flames were very visible.

I consider those details quite relevant, thanks for pointing them out.
