Post Guidlines for r/SwingMusic (Please Read Before Posting)
Welcome to r/SwingMusic
If you aren't familiar with swing music, take a second to listen to some of the other songs posted in this subreddit before making your submission. What qualifies as swing music? A basic guideline is a song with a strong staccato rhythm played on every beat played by acoustical instruments. Most electric and electronic instruments probably don't belong here. This goes for any ElectroSwing or SwingHouse submissions.
Have a question? Feel free to ask! You can also try using the search bar on the top right of the page.
Don't know where to begin? Start by listening to the great pioneers of swing music, the big band leaders of the 1930s. This includes artists like: Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Chick Webb, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and Jimmie Lunceford (just to name a few).

Any Older Swing Music Recs?
I'm really into the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, etc, but I want some recommendations for the same type of "aggressive" swing, but just a little older, like 40s-30s.

Millers Moonlight Serenade
Hi there,
This is quite specific, but I was wondering if anyone has any info to share on the analysis of Millers Moonlight Serenade? I’m looking specifically for elements of music (form, harmony, chord structure, progressions, rhythm etc.). I’m doing a project on this and there really is very little info on the harmonic elements of the tune. Websites seem to focus on the songs historical/societal impact rather than the ins and outs of the structure. Any info would help!
Thanks.

I started a new 9-piece big band! Our goal is to do original arrangements of mostly original music. Here's my theme song as our recording release debut, "Dreams of You"

My swing band has a new album that is out today. It's a Halloween album titled "People Are Strange" by The Mad Hat Hucksters. I hope you'll check it out. Cheers!
It's also available on streaming services, like Spotify.

Any song recommendations for a vocal duet with a swing band??
Hello everyone!
I'm looking for a song (can be either originally jazz or a version of a modern song) that me and my friend can sing together with a swing band.
Preferably the song is upbeat. Both me and my friend are female however I can sing at a male range if needed as I have a pretty low voice.
Thank you!!

My Swing Era Soloists video/Fresno State Student
I had to do a presentation with 4 artists. I was given about a week to do this assignment. I had to re-create the film 3 times due to zoom video having huge issues. I did this for my Upper Division Jazz and Rock and roll history class at Fresno State. I got an 87. Given more time, I could probably get a 95+ today.
Let me know what you think. I received no feedback on my work.

“Ball of Fire” cover?
Hello! I know one of the ‘90s swing revival bands covered Gene Krupa’s “Ball of Fire” but I can’t find it anywhere. Does anyone know which band it was? I know George Gee and the Jump Jivin’ Wailers covered it but that’s not the version I’m thinking of. Thanks for your time.

Sweet Lorraine | Solo Jazz Guitar Performance
I love Nat King Cole's recording of this, though for energy, I was thinking about how Oscar Peterson might play it. Not for the number of notes, but rather the heavy 2 and 4 accent. It's getting cold, so finger work in the shed is a little tricky at night. As such, I tried to use more pick in general, which also helped create a more energetic vibe.
I'm interested in exploring soloing while keeping the 4-to-the-floor accompaniment, which is so unique to guitar. I'm trying to blur the line here between picking and strumming, using a bass note chord alternating pattern.
Let me know what you think!
