MOD POST FAQ | RESOURCE LIST | S-TIER POSTS

Hello! Welcome to the new and improved FAQ/Resource List/S-Tier Post list. This has been created with the idea that if you look into, read, listen, and watch all of the resources that are listed, you will have a foundational level of knowledge that makes up the majority of what you need to understand as it comes to physical development and theoretical application in programming for sprinting.

Every single resource on this list I (BDD) have personally gone through probably several times over. Watching, reading, listening, studying, I still reference them regularly. I have to admit, the most complete resources on this list and the most helpful (In my opinion) do require payment. Those being

  1. The Sprinters Compendium by Ryan Banta ($55-75)
  2. Coaching the Short Sprints by Altis ($149)

These two resources are a compilation of a significant number of concepts needed to be understood to have the foundational knowledge you likely seek. I cannot bring myself to recommend one over the other. They are both immensely helpful and cover a lot of bases. Things they do not touch on in a greater level of detail are strength training and plyometric concepts (covered greatly in depth in Christian Thib's book Theory and Application of Modern Strength and Power Methods, again another paid resource) although they get to the fundamentals, they are sprint specific resources and as such only reference them as much as needed. If you want to coach a team, I would make these two resources considered a mandatory investment. If you cannot afford these resources, you can make it very far without them. I, and the mods, have no level of compensatory affiliation with any of the resources listed in anyway and will not be directly linking them as a result of them requiring payment.

That said, there are some new things here, one, the S-Tier posts, post that the mods and community deem of very high quality will be reposted to this list under the S-Tier Category as an example of what we would like to see more of. Potential community awards are in play but with Reddit changing their award system it's up in the air right now. Two, I've updated the list of podcast episodes under Pacey Performance, and Andrew Huberman to be as complete as the podcasts are up to date, I've also taken off Just Fly Performance, the reason being I feel he pedals too much niche potentially cash grab ideas and it's hard to sort through the bullshit for new coaches so I won't recommend him directly but I will say there are some great interviews centered on the fundamentals with well established coaches, I may post these later.

I would ask that we get recommendations from the community on additional resources that have not been covered so we can add them to the list.

Post image

Alright, the mods are tired of seeing your legs and toes asking about insertion lengths, here’s the answer, there’s nothing you can do about it, quit asking, above in the photo is the wall of shame, if we see posts like this it’s going to be a two week ban, if you see posts like this report them

Thank you for the feet pics

Programming/Progression Journal standing start

10m start after short speed workout. 30,60,90. Was gonna do another set but felt super fatigued during the 90 and decided to cut it.

30 (x.x) 60 (6.94) 90 (10.54) so yeah a big performance drop off. This was still a decent start (1.75) but i was pretty fatigued so it was the last rep i did.

After that i did 2 sets of pogos, bounds, and broad jumps for 10-20yds. then cool down walk.

sprained my ankle on christmas eve so im testing the waters with running but overall felt pretty good especially on that 60. I guess that 60 really took alot out of me since it’s my training pr (havent ran 60 at a meet before)

I can see a difference in my mechanics on the right side. My ankle collapses and I seem to rely more on over extending at the knee rather than pushing thru the hips and ankles. While my left side foot strikes are a bit flatter, I think im able to get a bit more stability and leverage as I have a much better toe off on that side. Im doing a decent job at getting the toes up and striking the ground, but it could be better. Main thing is ankle stability needs to be stronger in order for the footstrike to be effective. Definitely a lot lazier with the arms too, whole body felt a bit off today so having the right bodily control was a challenge. I am seeing issues with the glutes hammies and core (specifically the obliques).

While there is still so much to work on in my mechanics as well as on the strength and stability and body composition, I am overall very pleased with this workout and what I accomplished and am excited to see where this season and journey as a whole takes me. As always feedback questions and discussion is welcomed.

General Discussion/Questions Acceleration factors

Is it better to have stride frequency or power in your starts? I always get dusted in my start and in videos I always see they get their foot down faster than, have better stride frequency, cycle faster, etc. but in top speed they still have better stride frequency but I’m going faster than them.

My squat is 2x my bodyweight and my max vert is 32-33in, which is higher than than people that I’m training with. How can I transfer this to my starts. Can send videos in DMs

General Discussion/Questions Genetic gift

How does one know if they are genetically gifted with ‘sprint genes’ especially if only just starting sprinting later in life (say early - mid 20’s). Is this something that is discovered months or years into training?

General Discussion/Questions Top speed day after a speed endurance day???

For context I did 3x150s all out. Would I even take anything out of the workout if I did a top speed workout tomorrow like 10,20,30m flys? Or would it be best to just lift.

Technique Analysis Flying 20 form check

Hello guys merry Christmas and all, I just did flying 20s for the first time and I’d like to see if anyone has pointers, for my form. And I’d also like to check if I even performed this workout properly? Like my run up and all.

Also, would anyone be able to help me time my flys, I tried timing them myself but it seemed ridiculously fast for my PB so. These word the third and fourth reps of my 5x20m fly work out respectively. Thank you all and happy holidays again!

General Discussion/Questions 10 yard fly Question

What is a a solid 10 yard fly with a 10 yard build up? Had a workout a while back with 5 reps on laser timing. Sophomore in HS looking into lower division collegiate track/field with high pole vault standards hitting 11 feet as a Freshman without prior experience.

Rep 1: 1.14

Reps 2-3: 1.13

Rep 4: 1.12

Rep 5: 1.11

Happy with the times and the improvement just within these 5 reps. There was about 1 minute rest in between these which is why I am happy that my times continued to get better. Just wondering what a good rep would look time-wise with that 10 yard build up…

Purchasing Advice Spikes for 400m

Hello, I need to buy my first spikes for 400m and I want to know what to purchase. Firstly I thought that I should buy Nike Rival Sprint since they are made for 60-400 but I asked some friends and they all agree that I should get something less aggressive (like Nike Rival Distance) as I just started t&f. Secondly, I saw Nike Victory's for almost the same price as Rival's and I started wondering if I should get something more complex like Victory's or Maxfly's. What do you all think about it, is it better to buy less aggressive spikes as the first ones? And, is there a significant difference between cheap ones and expensive ones?

General Discussion/Questions deload weeks

My 10m fly times went from 1.07 to 1.2 in the span of a week. I've been feeling less powerful on the track and fatigued during my workouts this week. I haven't taken a deload week ever, but plan to next week. What should I do during a deload week?

General Discussion/Questions Did you feel a difference when you got faster?

For anyone who’s dropped their 100m by a considerable amount of time (like 12.2 to 11.4 for example) did you feel yourself getting faster in your workouts? or did it always feel like you were running at the same speed?

General Discussion/Questions Block start question

So when i watch alot of sprinters block start when they push out the blocks their front leg sinks a little to give them an optimal angle to push out of. My question is, is there a cue i can use to do this or I shouldn't worry about it

Purchasing Advice Best training spikes to use with Adizero Prime SP3?

I have recently purchased Adidas Adizero Prime SP3 spikes for racing, but know that I can’t train in them regularly. What are the best spikes to use in training? I mainly run 100-200, and most of my training sessions don’t have any reps longer than 300m.

General Discussion/Questions Difference between track and hall surface?

I was wondering the difference that an actual track surface makes compared to a hall surface (one where you can still wear spikes). I just recently ran a 7.03 in a hall where you have to wear special indoor spikes and i’m wondering how much faster I could have been on an actual track surface.
