I remember listening to a podcast about 10 years ago and a professor of engineering was on and said one of the biggest lies in the labor market is that the US does not have enough STEM graduates. He said that while some genuine shortages exist there’s nowhere near the shortages purported by industry.

His solution was that there could be unlimited H1B visas but the employers must pay these people 5% above the median salary for those positions on top of immigration costs. If there’s a genuine shortage they will pay if it’s just cost cutting fuck off

This is a fantastic idea and would see companies abandon h1b visas immediately.

Or if there is a genuine shortage companies would have to pay market rate and not exploit people either way it protects American workers while insuring industry has the workers they need
