Hmmm. The word choice Alliance has some baggage (communicates an assumption/presumes a premise).

I think it was a respectful conversation. There were points of misunderstanding, but they were mostly resolved with some agree to disagree points.

What's in this comment is what I remember, my opinions, etc.

RESPONSE TO THE ORIGINAL POST AND THE THREAD:

I'm at the 46:05 mark so far. It's a good discussion.

But I'm still waiting for the Sam Seder vs. Cenk Uygur debate.

Heck, then have Emma Vigeland vs. Ana Kasparian as well.

The Democratic Party needs to move to the Left.

A higher minimum wage, Medicare For All, A Green New Deal, and Expanding SCOTUS are all popular positions and should all be standard Democratic positions and policies.

EDIT: I finished the video. Again, it was a good discussion.

People are leaving MSNBC and CNN because 'centrism' and 'both-siding' and having so many Republicans on a 'left-wing' network or 'moderate' network isn't helping things politically.

If people want straight news, there're things such as the AP, Thomson Reuters, Bloomberg, the Financial Times, etc. Investigative reporting can be gotten through the New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Yorker, etc. etc.

People watch cable news to be entertained and informed and to not have to use too much brainpower. But sh*tting on 'the Left' when the majority of the public want a higher minimum wage, Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, Expanding SCOTUS, elder care, free public college and university, childcare, paid vacations, paid sick leave, paid family leave, etc. etc., what the point of watching corporate propaganda?

For the TYT Main Show to have a rightward shift, people aren't going to like that. There already is rightwing media. And leftwing media is increasingly getting popular. Sh*tting on The Squad at every opportunity and 'giving grace' to 'MAGA Republicans' is not a winning strategy.

You're much more likely to convince liberals and 'moderates' and 'Independents' to vote progressive than you are to get hardcore Republicans to vote progressive. A hardcore Republican might vote for ballot measures that specifically benefit them. But still vote for Republicans.

EDIT #2: It appears that Cenk Uygur is going on some 'left-of-center' YouTube shows. He did a discussion with Brian Tyler Cohen. Brian didn't do much pushback. Brian overall seems very much just pro-Democrat. Cenk probably assumed that Brian would just agree with him on some stuff or otherwise not push back much. It's a 40-minute interview and I don't recommend watching it. It's mostly just a waste of time. Maybe Cenk will get some of Brian's viewers to watch The TYT Main Show. Cenk notable didn't recommend watching The Damage Report or Indisputable. He just mentioned the TYT Main Show.

I dont normaly say someone got destroyed. But think Marc made better points. Since he called out Cenk and cornered him

Like when he said when they both say they hate main stream media...they don't mean fox news and OAN. And the brave thing would to point out that Fox is mainstream media to.

Cenk’s theory of political progress for the left is to agree with the right that we should get rid of MSNBC and leave FOX News for another day… pragmatically.

Bill Maher said he buds with Ann Coulter, and stopped watching him. That was several years ago. I don't need my people to think like me, but I won't associate those who promote hatred.

I have a feeling they were hooking up

I believe that. He said they did vodka shots together. This was about 10 years ago.

It makes sense that boning will cause you to overlook the horrific character qualities... of Bill Maher

Edited for joke

I’m far from being a fan of Cenk, but having conversations with the other side is the right thing to do. Pretending everybody on the other side is some horrible person is how we got so divided in the first place. I didn’t watch this YouTube vid, but I did see Cenk’s TYT video about his time on TPUSA and thought he did just fine. He’s not bending any knee’s or doing anything to empower things he’s working against. He’s finding common ground to help a conversation get started.

I agree there's nothing wrong finding common ground with the other side and it is important to have agreements when we can but what I disagree with is Cenk's tactic. When you speak at a Maga convention and criticize the left throughout your time but don't push back against the maga movement then you are just playing into the maga's hands.

Do you not think Charlie Kirk is a horrible person?

4

u/Smooth_Bill1369 1d ago

I honestly don’t know much about him. Whether he is or is not a terrible person isn’t really the point though. There’s 1 Charlie Kirk while there’s 77 million people who voted Republican. Even if Kirk is a horrible person, that doesn’t mean the 77 million people on the right are also horrible. There’s a lot of good people over there who might be open to a good conversation about this country’s future. Not everybody who voted republican is in the brainwashed MAGA cult.

You seriously don't know whether or not Charlie Kirk is a horrible person? I'd suggest looking into him. Also Cenk is literally using the fact that people are saying Charlie Kirk is racist to assume that they are calling all 77 million of them racist

I'll pass.

Cenk is literally using the fact that people are saying Charlie Kirk is racist to assume that they are calling all 77 million of them racist

He's being foolish. While Kirk may be popular among young conservatives, older Republicans—those over 50, who make up about 65% of the party—primarily consume traditional news sources and are less involved in political activism. They likely haven't heard of him or only know him vaguely.
