Watching Bill Burr roast Maher so hard on his simplistic ideas about what is happening over there was so magical. Fuck Bill Maher. Can't believe I ever respected the guy.

I liked Bill Maher at one point.

Like Kyle, I watched a lot of Maher/Dawkins/Hitchens in the early 2010s.

It was great to see Bill Burr put Bill Maher in his place on Israel/Palestine when Maher made that comment that Cenk is referring to.

Fwiw, I still like Hitchens (RIP). But I don't like Dawkins or Maher anymore. I think Hitchens would not have followed the path of Maher & Dawkins if he were alive today.

Dawkins had a stroke at one point and I think it might have changed him. At the risk of sounding like and apologist for Dawkins and John Fetterman, I hope that’s the case..

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

Wasn't Hitchens a driving voice for the invasion of Iraq?

Thats when I stopped respecting him. He would have been on Maher's side here.

Sam Harris has also kind of gin right wing : ( Daniel Dennet didn’t. I hope Sam and Dawkins find their way again, because they were good writers with a good cause.

I loved religilous, it was awesome. Minus the bits of islamaphobia. Sucks that he seems to have gotten either audience captured of just let his shitty mask slip and is showing his real feelings and opinions. Same shit with Jimmy Dore and glen greenwald. So many people who used to be big names on the left have all went down the right wing rabbit hole for one reason or another

u/IanSavage23 May 16 '24

And matt taibbi, russel brand, aaron mate, tulsi gabbard, lee fang. I think even the great chris hedges, which saddens me to no end.

3

u/No-Guard-7003 May 17 '24

I used to like Chris Hedges, too. I was confused when I saw a video of him speaking at the Rage Against the War Machine rally with Ron Paul, Tulsi Gabbard, etc. last year. Why align with someone who supports torture and drone strikes on people just delivering humanitarian aid and with someone who pushes the gutting of Social Security?

u/IanSavage23 May 17 '24

Sadly i think it has to do with the reality of money. Gullible maga apparently subscribe way more than anybody. So i think even a solid leftist toiling for 83 bucks a week is going to be tempted by the huge amount of money lying to gullible right-wingers.

2

u/No-Guard-7003 May 17 '24

Yeah, good point. Whether a person is an independent journalist or an activist or both, and have bills and rent to pay, a huge amount of money is very tempting. Sometimes, principles aren't enough to pay bills and rent.

You have to know the difference with being against the indiscriminate killing of civilians and being supportive of terrorists.

u/travischaplin May 16 '24

Just a reminder that Bill Maher has repeatedly said that there are actually no deeper socio-economic conflicts in America because, and I quote, “When I go out to eat my valet and waiter seem happy”. Very serious thinker we have on our hands.

Bill Maher is an establishment and government asset.

15

u/SatanIsMyBaby May 15 '24

I used to like Bill Maher, but now I hate him - he is a moron right wing nut.

2

u/UncleTio92 May 15 '24

Since when?

5

u/SatanIsMyBaby May 15 '24

When he opposed Bush and the Iraq war.

-6

u/UncleTio92 May 15 '24

Seems like he has always been pretty left centrist, never extreme right wing like you are implying

12

u/SatanIsMyBaby May 15 '24

The way he has been speaking of the protesters is pretty extreme right wing. Putting Palestinians and Hamas in the same basket is extreme right wing.

-6

u/UncleTio92 May 15 '24

Just like how I would say giving support for Israel and “people who support genocide” in the same basket is extreme left wing.

10

u/SatanIsMyBaby May 15 '24

That doesn’t make sense. The right wing supports Israel’s actions against the Palestinians and the left wing opposes it.

-5

u/UncleTio92 May 15 '24

The right wing support Israel’s to defend itself* but that’s entire different conversation.

We are talking about extremes. By calling him a right wing nut, you are implying that Maher is an extremist which isn’t the case

8

u/SatanIsMyBaby May 15 '24

I think everyone supports their right to defend themselves, but you are either ignorant or worse when you don’t recognize that what Israel is doing is not self defense: it’s ethnic cleansing and a genocide. It’s an insult to the memory of the Jews that suffered the holocaust.

Yeah, Bill Maher saying the students are supporting Hamas, is extremely right wing. I’ll agree to disagree.

1

u/IanSavage23 May 16 '24

The hell it isn't. You'd be better off on jimmy dore comment section.. you will fit right in.

1

u/UncleTio92 May 16 '24

I have never seen a far right extremist who was anti trump, supported Covid mandates, openly drug friendly etc

You're in a...secular talk comment section. Kyle Kulinski has literally said what this guys is saying verbatim. Lol. Maybe you're the one who should go to the Dore sub. It's a genocide. And Mahr has gone right wing in the past few years. Kyle literally just did a video about it, saying just that. Do you not watch his videos? Are you aware of the sub you are even in?

Do you think it's the left who are supportin Israel and their genocide?

0

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

I'm on the left and I support Israel

2

u/BakerLovePie May 16 '24

Interesting. What part of the genocide do you feel you can support as a leftist?

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

i don't see it that way

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

Yikes....

1

u/IanSavage23 May 16 '24

Because you put 'left' in your username doesnt make you left in any way, shape or form.... comrade bot

1

u/[deleted] May 16 '24

Whatever you say

-2

u/UncleTio92 May 15 '24

I would respond with right to defend themselves*

Depends on whose perspective you are looking at. Biden is considered left to some and is considered right by others.

I just hate the notion that you are considered extreme just because of your stance on the matter. You can be a moderate/centrist left individual and have an opinion

1

u/SatanIsMyBaby May 16 '24

Hamas is a terrorist group and putting them in the same bag as civilians is an extreme political view. This falls under the definition of extremist.

1

u/UncleTio92 May 16 '24

Reddit all the time makes statements such as “If you sit at the table with 9 Nazis, there are 10 Nazis at the table”

I will use that same idiom logic and apply that to Palestinians/Hamas

5

u/skeevester May 15 '24

I think when you are equating the pro-Palestine demonstrators with terrorist, you're already extreme right wing.

-1

u/UncleTio92 May 15 '24

With that logic, anyone who equates pro-Israel with supporting genocide is equally extreme (on the left). I just don’t like that logic. Both parties deserve to protest in peace.

5

u/skeevester May 15 '24

Except that the vast vast majority of Israelis are in favor of this genocide. So yes, by default, support for Israel is support for this genocide.

1

u/SatanIsMyBaby May 16 '24

Well, giving (supporting) Israel the means to do more ethnic cleansing and genocide whilst doing ethnic cleansing and genocide is supporting ethnic cleansing and genocide.

1

u/IanSavage23 May 16 '24

Bullshyt, he is center-right AT THE VERY LEAST.

1

u/IanSavage23 May 16 '24

Been at least 5 years... AT LEAST.... You get marooned on an island or been in a coma for last 5 years??

3

u/Icy_Hearing_3439 Blue Falcon May 17 '24

At this point, is it money? Dirt? Racism? Like wtf, how are people ok with this blatant lying thinking these kids are stupidi?!?

2

u/earlymorningtoker Dicky McGeezak May 16 '24

I refuse to take anyone's opinion seriously when they haven't seen Back To the Future, fuck Bill Maher 🖕

Also since I'm ranting about him it's rich that years ago he called comic book readers childish when his entire career was made by telling dick jokes for 40 years.

2

u/No-Guard-7003 May 17 '24

No argument there.

Maher is an idiot. I never listen to his right-wing drivel.

His documentary Religulous was my first clue. I watched it in 2010, by the way.

5

u/dethmashines May 15 '24

We are so anti-woke now that we can't even call something racist.

-6

u/LeonidasTheRealKing May 15 '24

Just because you disagree with who someone supports doesn't make it racist. With that same logic I could say cenk is a anti Semitic because he doesn't support Isreal.

5

u/dethmashines May 15 '24

Fucking thick.

-4

u/Own-Lengthiness-3549 May 15 '24

Bill Mahar is right. A former Hamas member has recently said the same thing. Cenk Uyghur is an idiot. Wake up people!

3

u/IanSavage23 May 16 '24

Is it hard to type with hooves?

-6

u/Thinker_145 May 16 '24

Why are you all such apologists for Islam? Have any of you ever fucking lived in a Muslim country?

2

u/No-Guard-7003 May 17 '24

I have lived and still live in a majority Muslim country. It's not so much Islam that's the problem as it is some people. Not all of us are extremist and fanatics and we let each other alone, for the most part. We take care of our houses first.
