Cheaper alternatives?

Post image

Any cheaper alternatives to the Satisfy Ghostfleece? I’ve seen the Senchi one but do not want one with a zipper. Any ideas?

I have a senchi alpha direct hoodie and it’s great. There are a bunch of other brands I’ve outlined here in addition to more details about Alpha Direct.

Etsy also has a ton of sellers making AD gear.

Yo that’s an awesome resource. Thanks for sharing. Filter options for price would be reallly cool to add 😁

Yep! Thank you :) working in a longer brand outline I’ll eventually share here again. In the sidebar I have the bigger resources linked

Do you want the look or the material? It’s polartec alpha direct - there’s several cottage makers for ultralight backpacking gear that uses this (eg farpointe) or you could also reach out to users on ultralight that myog using AD.

I want the look, hoodie that can go all the way around the head or not. If it also has the material that would be sweet!

If you haven’t experienced the material, it won’t keep you warm if you’re not moving or without a windshell - it’s pretty much like wearing a very loosely knit sweater (lots of holes). Very technical material with specific use case. Ultralight, ultra fragile -it gets caught very easily and rips.

Sorry I don’t know about looks. That specific look you’re better off reaching out to a cottage maker or users in r/myog and selecting a more durable material. Good luck.

I also see ghostfleece line using polartec powergrid - there’s even more brands that use this material

you can find a few here. garage grown gear is popular with ultralight backpackers.

Thanks, I'm ordering a FarPointe hoodie to try

ive got a farpointe no zipper 60 and its great. I was hesitant on the fabric at first but after over 500 miles of hiking and running its still holding up just fine.

So wearing a backpack over this wouldn't be a bad thing? The material in pics make it look so thin and fragile that it would pile up or rip. I'm looking forward to taking it out on runs and hopefully some hikes as well. Thanks again for the heads up!

yeah seems to be ok with a pack. im sure if I tried to rip the fabric on purpose it wouldn't be that hard, but its holding up to real world usage. I try not to bushwhack with it though lol

I'm late to the party but farpointe is super legit and super well priced.

I have the 90gsm sweater and a pair of 60gsm leggings, will be getting socks. Probably have 500+ miles on the sweater across skiing/hiking/running/travel. Very very happy with it. You can get them cheaper if you catch a drop on the farpointe site.

I am also not really in the running clothes game, I ended up here from /trailrunning and /ultralight but $250 for an alpha hoodie seems a bit rich for me. They are by nature extremely basic garments, and the farpointe price reflects that well, it's not due to a lack of quality. The alpha cruiser does forego things like an elastic waistband in the name of weight savings.

have a look at Gnuhr Shag hoodie https://www.gnuhr.com/

A Tshirt and a beanie and a gaiter are cheaper probably.

I splurged on a ghostfleece and it’s honestly not that warm or feels high quality. You could go for any thinner fleece or waffle layer for similar protection at a lower cost IMO. Satisfy continues to disappoint in outerwear. I also had a regular windbreaker where the zipper broke within 3 wears one wash, sigh.

I recently got this one on sale for winter runs snd it’s been great and washes really well: https://www.ka-yo.com/se/en/p/ka-yo-prototype-1/waffle-thermal-sweater

What size is it? Ill buy it from you if you dont like it and its the right size

Senchi makes them without a zipper. Plenty of Alpha Direct hoodies out there

u/keepitboreal 9d ago

Oh but maybe they don’t have them right now. Bummer!

1

u/NYManc 9d ago

They just dropped one with a half zip and thumb holes but sold out within 2 hours

2

u/keepitboreal 9d ago

Not surprised, they’re so popular. But there are lots of good alternatives. Personally, I prefer totally zipperless designs for this type of superlight/wispy layer.

If it is so cold that you need that top do you really run with such shorts and without gloves?

2

u/hollywoodhandshook 9d ago

there are dozens if not more of high quality cottage industry makers of alpha direct fleece that will make it to your specs at half the cost anything satisfy makes

u/SweetSneeks 9d ago

Any examples?

The MYOG subreddit. Google . Etsy (not so much unfortunately a lot of drop shippers)

I was hoping for a specific shop/creator someone likes and has tried. I understand the sources.

Being from the pnw I’m partial to the senchi alpha 60. He’s revamping his products and will come out with new stock eventually. The ULGeartrade subreddit frequently has people selling some. I’ve seen a Farpointe hoody and it was pretty much the same. They’re all basically modeled after a sun hoody design so there won’t be much variances besides the loft they chose to use (60, 80, 120)

LightFoot Athletics has been making this same pattern in PA for years, they do drops throughout the year with different weights.

Haven't tried any alternatives but splurged on a ghostfleece hoodie a few backs back and it's really surprising me so far. More light than I can ever imagine and it's keep me extremely warm.. I really enjoy it so far but the fit is pretty fucked compared to most other satisfy products, arms and shoulders way too tight

Reminds me of Patagonia R1

u/frank-sabotka 9d ago

Not even close tbh

I tried it and didn’t fit (sleeves where to small), then I ordered as an alternative one from senchi designs. Love it for running at temperatures around 0-5 degrees Celsius with a thin merino base layer. And it’s super cozy indoors.

A downside that has to be mentioned, if it’s windy, it’s not that warm at all, especially when you are sweaty. But while you are moving it’s perfect in my opinion.

As an alternative to alpha direct: I LOVE my Mountain Hardwear Airmesh Hoody. Similar functionality, more versatile cut (IMO), and affordable. I will probably get another one soon.

Look up Alpha direct 60 hoody. Tons of cottage brands out there hand making them for $150 less than satisfy. Satisfy can slap a detachable label on a napkin and sell it for a pretty penny I suppose

some of the pricing is outrageous but the quality and brand are A+
