Question I've been thinking of which GTA to get, I already have finished GTA V long ago, and I haven't played through GTA 3 or any of the other GTA games fully.

Just you wait until everyone will fly over here and shit on DE remasters. But regardless of people's subjective opinions DE versions of the originals are better versions of them. They have many quality of life inprovements. They lack some songs but that's fixable in matters of minutes with a patch. Also GTA IV Complete Edition is perfect option. Best story, best physics and best city in the series. Overall, either way you won't loose š

u/Sockman01 8d ago
Plus there's barely any bugs but people still bash it because of the release bugs that aren't relevant anymore, you can play the entire game whilst barely seeing any bugs, they're either so minor you don't notice or straight up funny
2
u/SweetTooth275 8d ago
My point exactly. Same thing happened to Mafia III, Cyberpunk and oh so many games. It's a disaster how much some people just want to shit on things they subjectively don't like
1
u/Lucasddst 8d ago
There's barely any bugs? Are you sure about that?
Just take a look in this video here. There are at least 600 problems in the DE
5
u/Sockman01 7d ago
Again though you aren't going to see these unless you go digging
-3
u/Lucasddst 7d ago
The fence at Los Santos airport has no collision and you want me to ignore it and pretend that everything is OK?
3
u/shawner136 6d ago
They hardly fixed any bugs from the originals and added more. But because theres less than during release its better now? Nah im with you. Ive 100%ed GTA SA in the DE version and the OG Xbox version. 11/10 times ill choose the OG version and will continue to. One looks better, one plays better. Its a game. We play them. Not just look at them

u/NewTrack9791 7d ago edited 7d ago
The DE versions are not better sorry. I have the originals on PS2 and I much prefer it. I played them both side by side and Iāll pick the PS2 any day. I donāt like the modern feeling of the DE. I like the arcade feeling of the PS2. Maybe itās old but thatās what Iām used to. The DE kinda slows everything down. Claude runs way too slow compared to the original. Itās like heās running in slow motion. The graphic change is too distracting. The atmosphere just isnāt the same no matter how many color filters they add.

u/SweetTooth275 7d ago
They are literally the same stories. You can prefer anything you like, you have every right for it. But if you like something it doesn't mean that something that you subjectively like is objectively better. I have played every version of san Andereas and it feels exactly the opposite. Originals were so wooden and slow compared how fast everything happens in DE. This is especially noticeable with 3. Your nostalgia is clearly speaking for you. I get it, but don't say something is worse because of your subjective feelings because when you compare things objectively there is no place for subjectiveness.

u/shawner136 6d ago
Swim speed in DE, slow as hell. Aiming with any setting that isnt free aim, slow as hell. Hydra mechanics, much worse. Jetpack mechanics, much worse and less detailed visually.
Hydraulics, majorly improved in DE version (minus the fact the prompt remains on screen at all times)
This is just off the top of my head. Unfixxed bugs from the OG versions, new bugs in this version. Hilariously nerfed missionsā¦ its just worse. Its prettier, but its worse.

u/1man2ballsacks 8d ago
Sorry ps2 version will always be superior
1
u/balaci2 7d ago
they genuinely are, I've put multiple people with various tastes on both versions and they pretty much unanimously agreed the originals are better
a prettier menu and a shinier sun won't make the defectives palatable
-1
u/1man2ballsacks 7d ago
Exactly, the new defective edition just look cringe and gay. But I get all the little tiktok kids on there switches and tablets wanna try gta too
0
u/SweetTooth275 7d ago
Whatever you say grandpa, don't forget to take your pills next time.
-1
u/1man2ballsacks 7d ago
You like 12 so I wouldnāt expect to have nostalgia for the ps2 days but I get it champ you need new cartoony fortnite looking graphics to stay focused on the game.
-1
u/SweetTooth275 7d ago
I'm 24 and I have played all versions of that game. Graphics has the last place in priory chart of a game. Next time when you try to be smirky at least try to use your brain before saying anything.
2
u/balaci2 7d ago
But regardless of people's subjective opinions DE versions of the originals are better versions of them.
you couldn't threaten me with cyanide and have me say this
1
u/SweetTooth275 7d ago
Just goes to show how subjective you are and thus how little your words matter.

u/GoldenPika64 5d ago
The OG Engine with graphical mods and bug fixes >>>
0
u/SweetTooth275 5d ago
Will look shittier be unplayable because of constant crashes and have the same wooden feel to it.
1
u/GoldenPika64 5d ago
SilentPatch and Dxvk literally turn the game into a new game. SilentPatch was also just updated weeks ago
0
u/SweetTooth275 5d ago
Tried it. It absolutely does not. You exaggerate on purpose to make your point more valid when in reality pretty much nothing changes and PS2/ Xbox version is better than PC but still not as good as DE, even considering bugs they HAD on release.
1
u/GoldenPika64 5d ago
So the countless hours of work people like Silent did hasn't made the game any better? Sorry but not giving Rockstar a penny for the Unreal Engine garbage they released
0
u/SweetTooth275 5d ago
Made, but these are such insignificant things that they made no difference in grand scheme of things. It may be garbage in your subjective opinion, but the fact is - DE is better objectively. You can leave your money, or if you're such an appreciative person donate them to Silent or every mod maker you like.

4 with its DLCs is great at this moment, wait for the DE to improve more, bcz even now bugs remain, you wouldn't get the complete best experience
12
u/LucasWesf00 8d ago
GTA IV! Itās easily the best GTA to date when you include the DLCs. Holds up insanely well for a 2008 game.
6
u/actchuallly 8d ago
Pirate GTA SA og version (you have to since they only sell the shitty definitive edition now anyways) and add a bunch of graphics mods.
3
u/1man2ballsacks 8d ago
Fr they are tryna force to play the garbage version, thatās why I stick with my ps2
1
u/mikeymanza 8d ago
Might be able to find an old game code to unlock on steam. That's what I did for GTA 3
1
u/actchuallly 8d ago
Sounds like more work than just pirating it lol
2
u/mikeymanza 8d ago
True but slightly less sketchy
2
u/actchuallly 8d ago
I use the megathreads from r/piracy and r/piratedgames and never had any problems. SteamRIP is legit.
They have listed the sites to avoid too like steamunlocked
1
u/mikeymanza 8d ago
Ive usually used tpb but never really pirated videogames mostly movies and stuff or music. I might check out steamrip one day. Just said the game code thing cause not everybody knows what they're doing pirating shit
1
u/actchuallly 8d ago
Fair enough. Pirate Bay is pretty much considered unsafe these days
Firefox w/ Ublock and sticking to those megathreads and youāre golden these days. I donāt even mess with torrents anymore.
2
u/mikeymanza 7d ago
I might've just gotten lucky never having problems with torrents so far, at least not since being a stupid teenager. I use opera browser + their vpn and transmission client. But like I said just stuff like movies/tv or maybe some music never any big games or anything, and not very often

u/Successful_Smoke4921 8d ago edited 8d ago
Iād say iv theyāre all excellent games but the older ones can show their age a little bit especially if you donāt have the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia most of us have. iv on the other hand feels like it could be a lower budget aaa game released today
4
u/Corporal_Gaming99 8d ago
Do GTA 4 dude. Trust me, itās far more worth it than spending more money on arguably inferior versions of the three classic GTA games
4
u/xtufaotufaox 8d ago
There's A LOT of content in GTA IV + expansions for that price! You'll get your moneys worth ...
If i remember correctly the port was absolute shit though. Don't know how well it runs on new hardware but it's something to keep in mind.
(Vice City is still my favourite GTA though)
5
u/OhhhSookie 8d ago
The answer is so clear to me here, I hope you see it too OP.
That GTA IV package is worth over $100 if you consider what we paid at retail when it first released.

3
u/friblehurn 8d ago
If you've never played any of the other GTA games fully, and you've only completed GTA 5, the original trilogy may feel too outdated for you.Ā
GTA 4, however, will feel like a better GTA 5 lol
3
2
u/Bread_man10 8d ago
Do IV next, then SA then Vice City then III. Thatās what I am doing, finished V, then IV, now mid way through SA
2
u/foodank012018 8d ago
It will be jarring to play the 3D era games if all you know is V.
I'd suggest playing the IV trilogy.

2
u/Clean_Perception_235 8d ago
GTA IV for 6 bucks is a deal for how much content there is. A full game and 2 dlcs for 6 dollars
2
2
u/TrailblazedFletch 8d ago
If your buying for pc check cd keys out might be able to get them both for the price of DE on steam
2
2
u/gl0rykidd 8d ago
Coming from someone who has played 3, VC, SA, IV, and V, GTA IV is your best option in my opinion.Ā
Especially since you get the main game along with The Ballad Of Gay Tony and TLAD all for $6. Thatās a blessing. Many people have even argued that The Ballad Of Gay Tony is better than the main story and I can understand why although I donāt fully agree.
If you end up enjoying IV, which I donāt see how you wouldnāt, then go ahead and give San Andreas a try in the future. Thatās still regarded as the best GTA of all time by majority of the community.

Getting GTA Definitive Edition & GTA IV Complete Edition is like getting a 6 gta games, You will have so much fun
2
u/BigKindheartedness83 8d ago
Although I prefer San Andreas over GTA 4, if all you know is GTA 5 then I would suggest playing 4 before jumping into any games from the 3D era. Itās the polar opposite of 5 with a much darker tone but a longer and better written story.
Once you get to the trilogy, I suggest playing in release order.
2
u/AngelMunozDR 8d ago
IV since itās technically 3 games in one, but remember to install FusionFix and DXVK to fix it.
2
u/sorrynospeakenglish 8d ago
4 is so worth it! iām buying it next week after i get my rog ally system.
2
u/Boxing_joshing111 8d ago
San Andreas is the best in the series. 4 isnāt awful but itās so morose and harnesses that doom/gloom feeling that I donāt think fits with the franchise. But some people like it, maybe you will too.
1
u/Comsat80 8d ago
GTA IV and it's DLCs are great. Vice City is in my top 5 games of all time....if not #1. I played VC on PS2 when it came out and it was a revelation.
1
u/mrletsgetcheesy 8d ago
4 is so underrated. Graphics looked weird on Xbox X, think because of uoscaling but so many things to do

I will warn you having bought the GTA IV definitive edition on steam the PC port of that game is a little rough. It's got a lot of bugs and problems, some of which can completely prevent your progress. It's nothing that there aren't fixes for online and it's still a great game, but it can still be annoying to deal with a bad port.

u/iLikeRgg 7d ago
Get gta 4 with the episodes gta definitive edition has way to many bugs and crashes on ps4 ps5 and on pc
1
u/ZephyrDoesArts 7d ago
GTA 4 The Complete Edition for 6 dollars if you haven't played it before is a must buy.
1
u/Ambershears 7d ago
You're going to have to really prepare yourself when you decide to actually play GTA3. There are a lot of features that other GTA's have that GTA3 does not, so it will be kind of frustrating. You can't swim, you can't bail out of cars, there's only one set of weapons. Vehicles are stiff and bouncy, the AI/NPC's are dumb, you'll get car jacked and killed a lot. The protag doesn't have a voice. But, it's a time piece, so it'll be fun.

u/ThePanther1999 7d ago
1000000% get GTA IV especially if it comes with the liberty city stories. Incredible games, my personal favourite GTA.

i like san andreas so i play it on PCSX2. got it for free. it doesnāt have the fancy new shit but itās the game i remember. works pretty well on the emulator too. no reason to pay so much

u/Ja4senCZE 6d ago
GTA IV is still my favourite GTA, although the optimalisation is not exactly great (but you can mod it). And the DLCs are great as well!

how come the people here shitting on DE arenāt shitting on 4? GTA 4 on the PC is insanely buggy.

Go buy an Xbox or PlayStation 2 and the original versions of III, Vice City, and San Andreas and play them.

Dude for 6 bucks you can't go wrong with GTA 4 and its DLC's. I'm not sure exactly how much time is taken to beat all 3 games but there's no way in hell it isn't triple digit hours ESPECIALLY if you 100% everything

Thereās a lot of issues with these games on PC. Make sure you download all the mods that fix all the cut content, especially for gta 4.
-5
u/thiccmaniac 8d ago
You should get the trilogy. San Andreas has more content than 4 but 4 has a better story

u/HopefulPerception303 8d ago
I have heard they fixed it a lot with the recent patch that was in November
