Success Story/Happy Ending What my little boy looked like the days he came into the our clinic doors
Akela was dropped off in a trap to my job emaciated, covered in fleas, sky high liver values, and a horrible corneal ulcer.
We didn’t know if his eye could be saved.
After 3 months of what felt like around the clock eye meds, a liver supplement, getting neutered, and finding his forever home with me, Akela was safe. No more wondering where his next meal is or getting into fights with other ferals.
Looking back, I don’t even know how he made it on the streets, he is the most timid, clingy, affectionate loving boy there is.

The boyo on the left there came to our door as Death was knocking on his. He's massive, but when we first got him, he was emaciated, he was covered in mud and who knows what else, could barely stand for how malnourished and dehydrated he was, and had some sort of severe upper respiratory infection, goop coming out of every pore. He even had a minor seizure (maybe) and was rushed to the ER because he suddenly collapsed in the litter box early on. It took...almost no time for him to gain weight, though, a few months for the infection to clear up, and we did find out he has...FIV? Not the feline HIV, the other one with similar letters that only passes to another cat by blood contact. Anyways, he's a bit of a chonk now, still very skittish, very sensitive to touch, and has never looked back to the streets. It gets a little cool in the house during winter, because we keep the heat off (doesn't really get cold enough), but with air conditioning when it gets to 115°F, about 43°C? Yeah, that and not needing to worry about the weather, food, and water, he has no interest in ths outside world anymore lol and yes, he's neutered. We neuter/spay all of our pets
Glad to see yours doing so well too! May he have many more years with you for all of the snuggles and love to give and receive. May you always do well to be able to provide! 😛 Good luck, best wishes, and happy holidays!

Thank you for sharing his story with me! Little guy has been through a lot, but I’m glad to know he’s in such good hands! Are you talking about FeLV? Feline leukemia virus?
Haha Akela is the same way, when we lived in a house I used to do backyard time with the cats and while my girl was sprawled out outside, he was right at the kitchen door like “mom, I know I’ve got it good here, no thanks!” lol

I think it may be that, but I'm not entirely sure. It's the one where you don't need to worry about just their saliva infecting the others...so maybe it is FIV, not FeLV. I'm terrible with acronyms lol
And Akela sounds like such a cutie! Give him soft pets for me!

He is adorable ❤️🤗😻 So happy to see his eye healed. It is amazing what time, love and meds can do for a cat. We have a tortie that has FHV (never been in remission) that took 3 months to save. She is a crazy girl, but loves my husband and me sometimes.

Thank you for sharing. This gives me hope for my foster baby right now. I didn’t know if his eye could ever recover.. it looks a lot like that now.

Yes! It’s crazy how resilient eyes can be! You would honestly never know looking at him besides a small little opacity. I think it makes him unique! Good luck to your baby’s eye! Wishing all the best
