COMMUNITY ALERT/ AWARENESS ⚠️ ‼️🔊APPLE VALLEY SHELTER INTAKE FOR 8/2024 shows 244 cats of which 198 were NEVER posted. Look at their track record! Where are the cats going? Town of AV does NOT care! Mayors office does not care!
AVAS August intake disposition report, 246 cats were euthanized. Out of that 198 never showed up on the website and we had no knowledge about them. WHERE ARE THESE CATS GOING!? Why is there no record of them or no opportunity for them to be rescued or adopted? AVAS is not in compliance with California state law penal code 599d. It’s unlawful to euthanize animals that can be treated or rehabilitated with reasonable efforts. They refuse to vaccinate or treat them. They refuse to show them to the public or post them. They refuse to make available any information used to aid in rescue. This shelter is abusing animals and violating the laws set to protect animals.

Why did they kill them ? Most of them looks healthy . Especially that tiny kitten full on life in the pic . I also have an orange male cat and he’s my best friend. He’s hyper active but he is the sweetest. He doesn’t want to leave Dora’s side . Dora is not eating , I have to cage her 3x a day for a few minutes so I can syringe feed her

It was literally almost impossible to look at each page because it’s so sad, but I wanted to spend some time for each cat. My heart hurts because they are all in my heart! I know they didn’t feel much love in their living days but I am sending them all of the love and snuggles in the afterlife.
It’s not fair.

Only good hearted Human do understand how sad is the current situation in California and TX shelters I don’t think any of your Government personnel cares about Animals in California.But Citizens have a full right to protest their wrong decisions and comments and ask Senators to change this all the way to WA DC .When the election days approaches they begging us to re elected right? Never Forget Folks! Always remember this photos. And don’t forget Fish rots from the head.

Just Got Off the Phone With Mayor Nassif of Apple Valley regarding AVAS
He took the call to his cellphone at 760 617 0941 because he did not know who I was. I first asked who is running AVAS. He replied Gina Whiteside had retired and they promoted Anita whose name he did not remember from inside. No search. No qualifications known. It is a permanent appointment, not temporary while they search for a qualified candidate. I mentioned i had read his online bio where he boasts ethics are important to him and asked how he could reconcile being ethical about animals being mistreated and abused. He said because it is all a lie. It is made up by bad people, one in particular whom he did not name, female I think. No abuse. Nothing the people of the community say can be believed. I said there is photographic evidence, certainly "legal" evidence accepted in court. He said nope. Asked twice if I had been there. So he thinks the average person can walk in. So maybe a lot of you locals need to do that. With a reporter or news camera. I told him if I saw one more rotting eyeball because staff won't even administer eyedrops I would puke. I asked him if he had been to the shelter and he said "oh yeah, all the time." Then he pretended to have another call coming in, no sound of that but hey. I thanked him and we hung up. His cell phone number is part of his candidate record which yoch you can find on the city hall town clerk elections website. All of the candidates phone numbers are up there. That's my report.

Ill be saving these images and writing a serious email to both AVAS and the national chapter of the ASPCA. I've seen enough cruelty from these people and if their employees are incapable of compassion for these animals then they shouldnt be employed in this field of work. Hope Autumn is ready.

That is a BABY. I do not believe for ONE SECOND that baby couldn’t be purrito’d and socialized with time and attention.
I have worked with hundreds upon hundreds of cats in my time in the rescue world. I can think of exactly one who is genuinely a fractious cat to the point where I would consider behavioral euthanasia.

This just made me cry and the tears have now turned into angry tears!
Anytime I see Devore or AVS, I try to pledge for a few of the kitties each pay period. I am not in CA, but how can I help?

This is horrific. I can’t stop crying. Why???? These are beautiful living beings with souls and feelings. This makes me so angry. How dare these people murder all these wonderful cats. There are no words that can justify what has been done. How can these monsters live with themselves? I hope all these nasty murders get paid back with the worst karma life can through at them. What can we do to stop this?? To all those sweet innocent kitties I am so sorry. You were failed miserably by humans. You did not get the lives you deserved. We love you all!

So instead of making changes to improve cat adoptions/rescue they choose to be less transparent and hide their dirty deeds. Heart breaking seeing those faces. Management should be eliminated and the funds saved should go toward free spay/neuter. Where is the community outrage?

I'm over here in the UK so obviously not close to the shelter, and I have very basic computer skills but I can certainly have a go if you let me know what's needed. I'm so sorry this is happening to these precious animals, it's unbelievably sad and frustrating. Please look after yourself too 🤗

This is disgusting, vile, heartbreaking and infuriating. I have always said this but fuck shelters like these. Stop hiding behind the name of a "Shelter", you hideous monsters. A shelter is supposed to be a sanctuary for animals not a death trap.

I don’t know what the hell is going on in San Bernardino county, but my grad school roommate lived there with his family and I presume still does now. They were dog people, they had like five rescue dogs. Now I understand why. Because the shelters in the whole county are apparently all like this.
I feel the employees and volunteers here are in a catch-22 with terrible, horrific management. Who would want to work in a place like this? No sane people I know of. And without sane, compassionate employees/volunteers pushing for change, nothing gets better, and the cycle continues. I know I would be that crazy volunteer who goes in and does the best I can for those cats every single day until I burned myself out with the exhaustion of a system that remains shitty.
How do you get normal, logic, compassionate people in here as management or working for the county or elected or whatever?

I'm trying to get involved for real. It has bothered me as I am a dog lover too. Cats are cool-they have always adored me and I don't always want to be bothered. Was in love with a cat as a little girl (my maternal grandma had) and when he was hit by a car it traumatized me and I said I didn't want to be around cats anymore. As a result, growing up all the way until now, all cats tend to like me. Even the ones that don't like being bothered by others, lol, it's like they sense my hesitation so gravitate towards me even more. My bestie said it's because they can relate to me and sees me as one of them. If I am honest, I can be catty for sure. Why? I care, I am passionate and loyal, very protective too-but don't want to be bothered with the fake. Lol. Cats, dogs and children have great perception-if they have an issue with a person, usually it means that human has bad intentions.
Anyway, my third son is allergic to cats so I have not had one as a pet, but I value and appreciate them. And at the end of the day, be it a cat or dog, our pets are our family. And there is no way in hell that human beings should treat animals like this. I'm fighting hard to make changes. I am trying my best to get involved and shake this madness up.

I do, too. So sickening. I love each and every one of those kitties, and I never even met them. But I have so much love for them, and to know they weren't even given a CHANCE just made me start bawling. I looked at my kitties and cried harder. There's no reason why those kitties shouldn't be in a home (or cat colony/barn/sanctuary) and happy with someone, just like mine are. Mine had rough starts as well. Cats are angels who walk the earth, and this is what humans are doing to them.

I have seen this, so I will say yes. However, the lack of accountability and transparency allows the people around to presume that the folks making noise are making this up. I would suggest getting the larger media outlets in the LA market to make an appearance. Why? Because although this js San Bernardino Count, the High Desert has been exclusively tied to its own so outside folks aren't always privy to the nonsense around here. When national news outlets or LA county news pops up, more attention is placed on the High Desert and things happen. Trust me, I have seen it work in the neighboring cities of Victorville and Hesperia. I am also willing to help in those efforts. I am going to be at the next Council meeting on October 8th. I will be listening and taking notes. I'm very certain someone will be there in public comment regarding the AVAS. If I am successful in my run for Town Council, I learned I could actually host public meetings outside of the Town Council meeting if I feel an issue is not being addressed properly. I just learned of this fact yesterday.

My version of helping is trying to get in a position of leadership to be able to be the voice of reason needed to challenge this madness in the first place. I am not your typical politician or candidate. I am also neurospicy: I have a neurodivergent brain, am an educated Black woman, and the furtherest thing from a follower of trends that you will wver find. I am NOT afraid of any of these people in leadership and will stand 10 toes down about the many issues we have in Apple Valley, inclusive of the budget spending, the failure of the AVAS, the unfair treatment to youth of Color, and all the mediocre promises given during elections but never put into action. I stand for people, period. We got work to do. I gotta get up in there and make some changes. The n, in a couple years, when the 2 other district seats are available, we need others like you to do the same.
The definition of insanity is to repeat the same actions and expect different results. Here in Apple Valley, California, we are in desperate need of change, period!

This travesty is as much the fault of the residents of the county as it is the county itself. Get moving on a PUBLIC initiative to get these cats socialized and adopted. It is sad that the majority of residents are idiots and/or jerks. My brother, who lives in SBC adopts and transports dogs out of his own pocket to prevent them from being murdered. The county kills more animals in a week than prosecutes animal offenses in a year. It is disgusting.

How much is AVS being paid for euthanized pets? Are they selling to pet food companies? They poor euthanized cats are ending up somewhere. This needs to be stopped!!!! Nationwide free spay/neuter clinics and low cost vaccinations. And ban pet food companies from using euthanized pets in their products.

We have some testimony of a vet employee near Devore in San Bernardino County who does the financing and she saw a $250 payment for a PRE ORDERED PREGNANT EUTHANIZED CAT. These probably are PRE ordered from the shelter. This is why there’s so many unexplained surprise euthanasias when we are told they are all safe. Also beautiful cats being put down. Pretty sickening. We have to prove it though.

Beginning in at least feb 2024 there were as many as 50 written comments per month submitted to the town council. All were polite and mentioned facts and asked the mayor and council to consider changes and made useful type suggestions. These are the men and women the mayor dismissed as nut cases. Because the state code applies to anyone who knowingly assists in commission of criminal behavior, I think it would be useful to submit a chunk of this along with the criminal complaint. It’s all on line but needs some downloading and organizing. Maybe an afternoon of work. Help with this would be great.

I apologize in advance for not knowing my handle name on Reddit-I literally activated this account yesterday. However, I wanted to reach out to this group to let you know I have read your feed and stand with you against this NONSENSE. I live in Apple Valley and I am frankly sick and tired of all this, so I am fighting hard to get involved so change can happen.
My town council's leadership has been the same for the past 8-12 years. I have lived here for 9 years and before my dog died (during the pandemic) I personally witnessed the madness. It is shameful how the Animal Shelter is being ran, and this issue is only 1 of many that influenced me to stop merely advocating in the background and step up to be the change we need to see.

Hello, I wanted to add this! Let’s flood their city council meeting minutes and stand up for these cats and dogs in their “care” and let them know this is NOT ok! ✊‼️
You DO NOT have to be an Apple Valley or San Bernardino County resident to submit a public comment. Just make sure you email your comments on meeting days ONLY before 12 Noon PST. You also can go and speak in person for 3 minutes max if you’re local!

In case you weren’t aware, the Town of Apple Valley, California council meets two Tuesdays a month, and accepts emailed comments from the public ON MEETING DAYS ONLY UNTIL NOON PST. These comments are attached to the meeting minutes and become part of the public record. If there is something you would like to communicate to the Town Council and the residents of Apple Valley, public comments are one way to do so.
We encourage everyone to submit a public comment tomorrow. Speak up for the dogs and cats at AVAS. Let the town governing bodies know that you will not stand for the way things are currently run at their shelter. Express your concern for the animals. We are their voices.
All comments should be respectful, non-threatening, and factual in nature.

I also wanted to add that through my research for my public comment I came across an article about a grant that Apple Valley Animal Shelter received earlier this year for free medication, vaccines, and antibiotics to give the animals in it’s care. And they were the only shelter in California to receive the grant! 😳🤬🤬
The article.. “
Apple Valley Animal Services is among 20 animal care groups across the country to receive free medicines and vaccines through the inaugural round of grants provided by two national animal welfare organizations.
The High Desert animal services agency will receive medications to treat fleas, ticks and heartworm disease, along with essential vaccines and antibiotics, to help serve the dogs and cats in its care, according to a joint statement from pet health products company Zoetis and animal welfare advocacy group Adopt a Pet, which are sponsoring the grant program.
Apple Valley Animal Services was the only awardee selected in California.
Zoetis Executive Vice President and President of U.S. Operations Ester Banque said her company was proud to support animal welfare groups “who are working tirelessly to keep pets safe and healthy while they transition to their forever homes.”
So basically they get all this for free, the only shelter in CA that does, because the president of this drug company and Adopt a Pet actually think the Apple Valley Shelter gives two shits about their animals works “tirelessly to keep pets safe and healthy [in their care].” 🤯 WTF?! And also, where do all these free medications, antibiotics and tick/flea treatment, etc. go? Because we all know they sure don’t use them!
I’m definitely adding this point to my comment and also writing a letter to both Adopt a Pet and Zoetis companies. I encourage you all to do the same!
