COMMUNITY ALERT/ AWARENESS ⚠️ This is WHY kittens & cats are being euthanized and exposed to deadly diseases at Devore & AVAS shelters! No GLOVES! No sterilization of common surfaces! Proof!

Marinara Cavatopi & Risotto are called Spaghetti family for short. This is what happens when shelter staff is negligent! I already posted a few others euthanized due to pan Leuk. Now they are having free adoptions all month with pan Leuk exposure to the entire cat population in the shelter! Great idea to allow people to unknowingly adopt sick animals to take him to their own pets. Unbelievable!

Gloves and sterilization is like the bare minimum. If they even touched one kitten with panleuk and touched something after, then suddenly they have a huge issue. Dealing with places like this, yall must be exhausted in California. So incompetent

I keep seeing posts about Devore shelters. Can someone please explain to me... Is it an abusive shelter in California? Is it a "chain" of shelters? Do they have odd rules about euthanasia? I genuinely would like to know

All of the above. Neglect. Failure to medicate or treat. Trapping to kill. Lots of cruelty.

If they catch a chipped cat, do they give it back to the owner? As in are they actually responsible regarding that (contacting owners and keeping the pets, both cats and dogs, safe and healthy in the meantime)? It sounds dumb to ask but considering how much I've heard on this subreddit about devore, I really wouldn't doubt that they're neglectful about that too. I don't know if you have an answer for that but I'm just curious. I can't imagine if they trapped my cat (who is chipped) and let him stay in such depressing and unsanitary conditions, even for the short period of time he'd be there if I got the call.

They hold for ten days to give the owner a chance. But many of these cats are pets obviously They are not responsible though so pets would be at risk of catching Lord knows what.

That's sad, yeah :( can't imagine how even cats that have homes suffer there because of their neglect.

I think we need as many people with cameras going in there as possible. Be discreet with your cell phones but snap dirty cages sick cats wounded cats poor sanitation. There is no way to have too many pics because the council members at AVAS won’t pay attention to words

They aren’t going to let anyone get back there.

These monsters are disgusting. The way they are treating the animals in their care is abusive and cruel. How many more precious lives will be cut short because of their disregard for basic humanity? They need to be stopped. Maybe they need to be put down??

Exactly! This is why I’m sharing.

heartbreaking... :(

I really hope that the criticism they've been receiving serves as inspiration to improve, not to take on harsher actions on the pets. This worries me :(

Isnt it possible they’re washing their hands after handling?

17

u/Monkittyruccia22 Sep 09 '24

They aren’t. They still should be wearing gloves

u/hug-every-cat- Sep 09 '24

Yes, but gloves are expensive. A one-off picture isn’t enough to claim it’s habitual.

I can’t speak to exposing people to panleuk but again, isn’t it probable those cats in intake and not where the adoptable cats are?

I’m not trying to white knight - I’ve seen other photos attributed to this place and they’re Bad - but it seems like a lot of inferring is happening.

If you have evidence showing lack of sanitation go to the news imo, and report to whatever department governs the shelter

Gloves $10 for a box of 100. Please do the homework on this place. It is terrible. Pan Leuk is highly contagious and can live at room temperature for a year on surfaces, etc. That place with a high number of cases needs to be shut down and thoroughly sanitized. It can kill kittens in a matter of days. I think a $10 box of gloves is not expensive. Considering the cost of innocent lives.

Honestly I don’t have time to go into the encyclopedia of evidence we have. So do some research on this and then you will be in the know about this.

gloves are not so expensive that they outweigh the risk to kittens from exposure to deadly contagious illnesses. second, there are multiple images of this shelter not using gloves. also this shelter has been reported multiple times, but social media helps raise attention around the issue to bring about action.

And this is where they are taking animals who are displaced from the wildfire 🙁

u/Monkittyruccia22 Sep 09 '24

And euthanizing animals to make room!!!

👆🏼LOOK!!! Their solutions to everything is to KILL! Unbelievable!

2

u/LeMeow007 Sep 09 '24

Has anyone brought this to PETA?

2

u/noticeablyawkward96 Sep 09 '24

I’m a volunteer for my local shelter and it’s hammered into us at orientation to wear gloves and to change them between kennels especially when kittens are involved. It’s basic sanitary practice.
