Signed! Please share with everyone you know. This is sickening what our government is doing using our taxpayer money to fund this! Demand from your government representatives to stop type of cruelty! We won’t stand for this anymore!!!

What the actual f.
Signed obviously.
Reading that is literally worse than the people in the Bronx feeding them to dogs training to kill. This is extended torture. I'm so sick right now. I can't even believe this exists.

I feel the same way, I am sickened and have a lot of anxiety from reading this . Definitely signed.

I have been upset and obsessing over this for a few hours now because it is so horrific.
I went looking for something to take the edge off and found this.
Keep up the pressure. There is progress and hope.

Please don't be depressed or give up hope.❤️ Take it from me don't focus on the gruesome aspect.
There is progress and hope in these areas of animal testing... And public pressure is what will make them stop these experiments. We have to defend these innocent cats.❤️
Thank you for helping!❤️❤️❤️

I haven't been able to stop thinking about it, either. I'm going to do what I can
5
u/BostonBluestocking Jun 04 '24
And it specifically says they will use female kittens because they are more docile. It makes me want to hurl
4
u/CheckmateApostates Jun 04 '24
It is disgusting. I already found some information, some of which may or may not be actionable with further research. Until then, I'm going to find out who the program officer and SRO were for his past and current R01 approvals and will make available any relevant information (specific* grant reviewers are anonymous, unfortunately, although a list of the reviewer pool may be available for R01 grants).

u/BostonBluestocking Jun 04 '24
I shared the petition on the feline guardians group chat on Instagram. I also put it on a University of Pittsburgh alumni site and have had two favorable comments already there.
Every time I look at my own female kitten, I get more enraged
5
u/CheckmateApostates Jun 04 '24
Awesome, glad to hear you did that! Yes, this is sickening. Thinking of that monster doing that to my two girls gets my blood boiling. This needs a public pressure campaign. More the better if they get the full Cody Roberts treatment.

Yes please!

The program officer for Yates' grant is Amy Poremba of NIDCD. Her email address is porembaa@nidcd.nih.gov. For anyone who emails her, include the project number (5R01DC018229) in the subject header.
Note: The project ended on May 31st, so I'm not sure if that means this project is finished entirely or if they are waiting for a renewal.
Yates is also listed as a principal investigator (PI) for a postdoc training grant with project number 5T32DC011499-12, which is currently ongoing (ends 2024-06-30). One of the keywords is "Felis catus."
I'll look further into whose stipend has been paid for by that grant to be sure that the grant is paying for his postdoc (it could be paying for the postdocs of the lead PI, in which case would mean a second researcher is doing similar things to cats). In any case, in the meantime, the PO for the 5T grant is Alberto Rivera-Rentas riverara@nidcd.nih.gov
Edit: Just remembered that is there already is a second PI involved in the cat research. Carey Balabam of U Pitt. I'll look into him further, too, after I get some work done 😅

I shared these with doubter over on the University of Pittsburgh alumni site.
There’s a third article as well, but clearly this is a re-up of funding the “research” he’s been doing. There are plenty of other articles too. He also experiments on ferrets.

Those manuscripts were only cited twice and once, respectively. All of that suffering for nothing. Hopefully that opens their eyes to what's going on

If you could please share that here/with me over DM, some money is asking for that on the pit alumni sub!

u/CheckmateApostates Jun 04 '24
Oops, just saw this. Check my other reply. Lmk if you want me to delete it after you get the info

u/BostonBluestocking Jun 04 '24
Just messaged the mods at feline guardians to ask if I can post this on that sub.

Thank you for that link. I'm really upset too. I am in tears. I will be upset about these kittens all day.

What the actual fuck , torturing kittens has no place in modern research ethics and the fact that tax funding goes to this makes me fucking sick. It’s beyond any doubt that this disgusting department should be held accountable for their perverted use of “research”. I genuinely am disgusted with this and want to drive up there and have a “word” with Mr Yates and maybe do some research on him
13
u/Lopsided_Smile_4270 Jun 04 '24
Yes definitely, Mr. Yates deserves a taste of his own medicine.
And you're correct - these kind of experiments have NO place in modern research. They are archaic and unnecessary- modern science is so past this. And it is proven that tests on animals do not equate to proven results in humans.

Signed and donated to the campaign.
It's abominabke what they plan to do to those poor kittens: who can even come up with such tortures?
I hope they can be saved, poor kitties.

u/Lopsided_Smile_4270 Jun 04 '24
I hope they can all be saved too.🙏But if God forbid these can't be saved- hopefully public pressure on NIH will keep them from doing these hideous experiments on domestic pets (and other animals) in the future.
Thank you!!🙏❤️

I also posted the link to the petition on a couple of University of Pittsburgh social media pages. They’ll probably remove it, but it made me feel better.
