Speculation RDR2 makes me feel like I'm living in it rather than playing it.

When it's snowing, I feel cold.

When it's wet and muddy, I feel unsettling.

When it rains, I feel soaked.

When the character cooks or eat, I feel hungry.

When I purposely execute NPCs, I feel bad.

The world really feels alive in RD games something I never felt in GTA

Not yet but red dead set a whole new level of gaming and gta 6 will be mirrored of that so I'd imagine the npcs will live and work like they did in rdr 2, I know leaks suggested hunting red dead style so I look forward to that

with how enjoyable rdrd2 hunting is, i cant even imagine how much better they will make it

Can’t wait to be hunting with my mini gun in gta 6

Especially with all of the new weapons you’ll have access too. Gonna be great

I have high expectations for gta6 I hope it’s able to capture what red dead did so well. Although set in a different time period, I think rockstar can execute it well. Games developed specifically by them, unlike the gta remake trilogy, are actually great. I’ve never played a rockstar game I was disappointed with

GTA has a lot of features that were carried over to red dead, and vice versa as well I think it’s just because RDR2 was so new it was pretty much one of the best games they’ve made so far when it comes to features and attention to detail

Red Dead 2's greatest accomplishment, is creating an open world that feels like it's living despite your presence, not due to it (like so many other open world games).

The pacing of the game, from actually cooking/crafting, to having to walk slowly through camp, to "fast" travel being cumbersome, encourages the player to become fully immersed into the game.Even something as simple as setting up or tearing down a tent when you're camping in the wild, have specific animations associated with it. It grounds you in the world, and makes you feel like you're actually living and connecting with it

Very well said!!

This is the main issue I'm having with Starfield at the moment. I love a good sci-fi background, and a lot to explore...but I don't feel it. I see "extreme solar radiation"...and it's a warning. It means nothing to me. The world still looks either bleak, or Earth-y, or whatever. But it doesn't FEEL any given sensation, it just tells me what to feel.

Riding through Bayou Nwa makes me smell the stagnant water and feel humidity on my neck. The monsoons of southern Arizona are perfectly captured in those snap downpour storms in New Austin. I literally feel bad for my horse, chuffing against banks of snow when I'm hunting moose up near Colter.

There's a whole lot of feeling, rather than just telling me how to feel. That's a pretty magical part of RDR, completely aside from the story.

Starfield drove me to pick up red dead again lol

2

u/Round-Maximum-1637 Nov 22 '23

Did the same thing 🤣 I made it to level 18 or so on Starfield and then started up a new game on RDR2 and started playing some COD MWIII

6

u/lanpshades Nov 21 '23

Totally agree!! Starfield just feels a bit lifeless. RD is so vibrant and alive.

u/poopoomergency4 Nov 21 '23

the constant loading screens in starfield really don't help. you're not traveling, you're just teleporting.

RDR2 doesn't even have loading screens for buildings, you're just in the game world as a whole.

Even the fast travel in RDR2 is enjoyable, I love the montage of the scenery and the music. It’s so atmospheric and gorgeous, it keeps you immersed in the world

u/kwc04 Sean Macguire Nov 22 '23

I love how they basically show you all the major locations between point A and B, it's like they still wanted you to sense that you took a journey rather than teleporting

3

u/poopoomergency4 Nov 21 '23

they did a very good job of splitting out the map into distinct territories with their own characteristic geography & manmade landmarks & general vibes. so you can tell the story of that travel by just playing a few clips of that scenery.

u/Python1194 Nov 21 '23

My thoughts exactly. I feel the same throughout the entire map. Each area is unique and well made. It's crazy that people compare this to Starfield.

When I tell someone "your face reminds me of the last time I lifted my horse's tail" it makes my heart swell with pride at my own cutting wit

I get annoyed when my character gets muddy. Like,”fuck, that shirt is ruined” annoyed.

Walking out of the hotel in Valentine after a good night's sleep and a refreshing bath, getting on my horse and yeeting myself off a short cliff face-first into the mud not five minutes later males me so mad that I yell "Goddammit, Arthur!" like I'm not the one holding the controller 💀

5

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '23

I think one of the under recognized elements of the game is the off camera laundry service. Every time I take a bath, my clothes come back impeccably clean, but nary a mention gets made.

5

u/blackdutch1 Nov 21 '23

I definitely feel colder when I'm in the snowy areas.

u/sugaslim45 Nov 21 '23

I love playing as a criminal . But I never execute my victims. Just holding up people in alley of Saint Denis and getting away is so satisfying . But I still do it with a code

3

u/Round-Maximum-1637 Nov 21 '23

I was hunting for perfect pelts not long ago, and got a great shot on an elk. Rock him in the head and - he takes off running! I put it in dead eye and hit him again, and he’s still mobile. After 6 or so shots I realize I’ve still got the varmit rifle out, change guns and finish him off. Man did I feel guilty for shooting him so many times 🤣 they definitely did a great job developing this game. I hope we get a RDR3 sometime before 2030 😅

u/Python1194 Nov 21 '23

I feel you! I tried lassoing a deer only to kill it with the knife and man how bad I felt🤣

u/stefan714 Nov 21 '23

I just can't bring myself to harm horses. Not because I wouldn't do it irl, but because it feels wrong ingame too, unless the mission requires me to do it.

I also feel kinda bad when killing animals too.

u/Suspicious-Side6407 Arthur Morgan Nov 21 '23

Fr same… even with the idea of Buffalo killing from the first game, and then having them not respawn because you slaughtered their population.

Similar to the California Parakeet or whatever in RDR2 that you can make go extinct…. You just feel like a dick doing it lol

Even Native Americans in those games I respect a ton, and try my best to always look out for em

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '23

While i hate that i have to do it (don’t have to but i want to actually 100% the game) i wish these stupid birds would spawn

3

u/sugaslim45 Nov 21 '23

Yeah I barely kill the animals unless if I really have to. I feel like I am endangering them.

3

u/kwc04 Sean Macguire Nov 22 '23

I can't lie, I love shooting the lanterns on army horses and making them catch on fire

5

u/Eh-Eh-Ronn Nov 21 '23

When I'm talking to Dutch, i just need a little FAITH.

3

u/TheStepStation Nov 21 '23

Really makes me feel like i Yeed my last haw.

3

u/poopoomergency4 Nov 21 '23

When I purposely execute NPCs, I feel bad.

i'm with you apart from this one. watching someone's head explode from my shotgun is always fun

2

u/Python1194 Nov 21 '23

Barbaric! It's enjoyable tho🤣🥹

3

u/poopoomergency4 Nov 21 '23

i just like that "head splattering into chunks" noise

3

u/nbcheezit Nov 21 '23

When he gets sick too, the little details of how people talk to him and the way he looks. Coughing after eating or drinking. It changes the tone so much.

1

u/Python1194 Nov 21 '23

Yes! Also, it's infuriating watching Micah antagonize him

3

u/MarmieCat Nov 22 '23

My whole body sweats when there's a bear, saw a panther for the first time and it was ruined by a bear attack. Nearly had a heart attack and had to pause for a minute to regain my composure

5

u/Chad_Kakashi Nov 21 '23

When i get my horse killed after jumping off a 2 inch cliff, I feel the need to reload my save in real life too

2

u/V3K1tg Arthur Morgan Nov 21 '23

and people still get weirded out and even mad for saying that I like RDR more than GTA I hope GTA6 will be a LOT more like RDR

3

u/Python1194 Nov 21 '23 edited Nov 21 '23

RDR2 is their latest and my number#1 out of any R* title, and that's their latest. Previously it was V. Anything new from R* is always a massive improvement. So yes, imo, VI will be the best experience we will all have.

2

u/V3K1tg Arthur Morgan Nov 22 '23

I hope so

2

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '23

I once hunted a panther and then closed the game and walked through a trail irl and was so scared a panther was gonna jump out.

1

u/Python1194 Nov 22 '23

I was literally jump-scared exploring the area near Catfish Jackson's. After picking a few Milkweeds, I remember it was around evening and just in a blink of an eye, this panther runs up to me and all I remember is DEAD🤣

2

u/Own_Responsibility37 Nov 22 '23

The only things thay break immersion for me are how Arthur can sustain so much bullet damage and how many people you have to kill in every mission. Of course it's a videogame but it does seem excessive. Lower health and less ennemies could have been better in my opinion.

1

u/Python1194 Nov 22 '23

I see your point, but I loved shooting them mfs🤩

2

u/CompetitionSquare240 Nov 22 '23

When Arthur smoke

I smoke

2

u/newgodpho Nov 22 '23

The only other game that has had me felt this immersive was Cyberpunk Post-PL.

2

u/ukranianmonk Nov 22 '23

i almost convinced myself i had tb furst time playing it
