Help Why Can't I Keep Anymore Stolen Hats?

As John I found a cool Del Lobo hat and wanted to put it on an outfit, so I rented a room and did just that. But when I got back on my horse to put it on the hat wasn't on, when I went back in my room, the hat wasn't in the "stolen hats" category. Is this a glitch?

Are you sure it was a "special"/keepable hat? There are only a couple that don't "flash".

You can only store 5 hats on your horse. If you pick up a hat it will be stored in your closet. You can go back to camp and change out what hats you have on your horse in your closet. I did the same thing when I found the miner's cap. I wanted that light source so bad. I thought I lost it when I got bit by a gator in the swamp. But then I was editing my outfits and saw in the hats section.
