Privacy and Security is a big time joke in india. Government hides everything from citizens.

And people don’t ask for anything. When the government asked meta to enable tracking of the source of a forwarded message in whatsapp, meta said that they can’t do this without removing encryption, if they were forced, they will exit India because even they don’t want to disable e2ee. To this an educated and smart individual tweeted that meta can f*ck of and we can build our own Indian whatsapp alternative, he took it on his nationalist ego. After reading that tweet, I put my phone down and cried in data.

I am unsure why but I have seen this a lot in countries like PRC and India, where the most educated ones of the society are usually the most pro government.
It is quite opposite of what we have here in the west. Why is that?

In china, people are super nationalists, it's the culture there.
In India, critical thinking is discouraged to practice from a young age. When people grow up, since they haven't ever thought about anything even on a basic level, they don't oppose ideas, specially ideas by the government as government is taught in schools as a good thing. When government proposes a new idea, people rush to take sides without ever analysing anything, and this usually results to people taking the side of government as that's what they were told from their younghood.5

Right, most people don’t even know what they’ve been studying since childhood could be propaganda. Tbh, the government is less evil then the people themselves, parents get angry if the child wants to do anything besides study and they get really angry if the kid doesn’t want to become an engineer, doctor or a chartered accountant. Most kids who study physics in high school do it only to clear college entrance exams to get a high paying job. It is rare to see some actual fascination towards science and technology.

I agree.
Parents don't like the idea of kids having anything except the path that society wants their kids on.
The idea of friendships, relationships, independent ideas and anything outside of studying is threat to the preferred path.

Probably a comfortable arrangement between a face of the leadership with actual elites who keep the office dependent on their funding to keep their governments running. I doubt these countries have large taxpayer base who control public expenditure and hold the office accountable

Privacy is only for the part where politicians hide their black money and nefarious activities. Everything else is Free and Open Source including all citizens' data

Privacy is literally treated as joke in this country. 9 out of 10 will laugh at you or say "well I've nothing to hide". Data from public health sector, banks, IITs, all the government departments etc are listed in the daekweb for few dollars.
