What modern router do you recomend? I would like something with stronger security/privacy options.

There's a lot of factors that go into picking a good system. House size, construction, backhaul availability (wired or wireless connecting units together) etc.
Need more details on what you want from your router, internet speed...
My general rule though is to avoid Amazon Eero/Google Nest products. They charge monthly fees for things other systems can do for free. If you just need a single router, the GliNet Flint 2 could be a good option as it's based on OpenWRT open-source firmware. I also tend to like Ubiquiti products with remote access disabled.

I own a Nest Wifi Pro and not going to argue it's the best choice for privacy but I am not aware of any fees. LOL

Are you leaving an open Wi-Fi network for your neighbor? Highly recommend AGAINST doing that. What happens when the neighbor does something shady online? You're the one getting the blame. Still missing details like your internet speed, expected wireless speed etc.

Hey, my wifi has complicated password so not open. The network connection was caught by avg I believe. 100 mbs online, expecting 150 wireless.

My router is a Lenovo ThinkCentre M920q running OPNsense. I use Zyxel Wifi Access points that do not connect to the cloud. All wifi access points are managed a local web interface.
