This is neat but could destroy the whole church if the tree is not perfectly green.

Finally, something that's actually oddly terrifying and not just terrifying.

This isn't oddly terrifying, this is kinda cool

Anyone a tad bit concerned that this was done near a emergency exit?

"uh, the fire marshall is here.. he'd like to have a word with you"

u/kitkatloren2009 9h ago

I mean....it worked. Kinda stupid and simultaneously kinda genius

I’d like someone to show me another way to light a tree. You can’t.

Nearly 2025 and there are still dumb people who put candles (!) on a christmas tree! But ok, these people in the video are religious so i'm not really surprised.

I kept waiting for the whole tree to go up in flames and thought, wow, the people watching sure are calm.

1

u/Royalchariot 16h ago

Seems totally safe

1

u/Lysol3435 16h ago

I’m sitting near the exit, but hell yea!

1

u/Aloha-Eh 16h ago

After all, what could go worng?

1

u/Hyakkimaru_4 15h ago

Very high risk, high reward

1

u/Sanguine_Templar 14h ago

If it's a fresh tree there's little chance of fire, connected wicks is fairly common to light many things.

1

u/jbpsign 14h ago

In Louisiana, they dunk a wet turkey in ripping hot oil to do this.

1

u/Lunafairywolf666 13h ago

I always wondered how people back in the day lit all the candles on trees

1

u/CrownBestowed 13h ago

you know what? Hell yeah

1

u/Klainc 13h ago

That was cool as shit

1

u/stillyou1122 12h ago

It's amazing how the entire tree didn't get burnt down

1

u/neurohazard757 12h ago

They may have been into some weird crap but the pagans definitely had a thing for fire that I can appreciate

Notre Dame's style

1

u/QuirkyDust3556 10h ago

Well, now we know what happened at Notre Dame

1

u/december14th2015 8h ago

They were going for that "snake handling priest' effect....

Some Krampus magic here

1

u/tomqvaxy 4h ago

Oof idk. It’s odd but I’m going with mostly terrifying. I’m like upset lol.

1

u/marmalade_ 2h ago

That was sick

1

u/An0d0sTwitch 2h ago

That doesnt seem smart

but im not a fireologist

que the tik tokers burning their house down doing this

1

u/briaaaaaaaaaax10 17h ago

those tree needles retain so much water it’s almost impossible to set it alight. now the dangly christmas balls—— that’s a diff story

9

u/akaynaveed 17h ago

Thats not true. Coniferous trees needles are highly flammable. There are a few trees like ponderosa, or trees in the south east that are fire adapted but this aint it chief.

1

u/briaaaaaaaaaax10 10h ago

the more you know

1

u/WingRevolutionary39 2h ago

After they dry out , yes . Fresh cut, not so much.

u/Ceshomru 16h ago

We can see that when the tree here burst into flames and everyone started evacuating.

1

u/akaynaveed 13h ago

You are entitled to your opinion, and the rest of us are entitled to the facts.

1

u/Ceshomru 13h ago

Haha did that sound good in your ears? So is the tree in the video not bursting into flames an opinion or fact according to you master?

1

u/akaynaveed 12h ago

Man look, its obvious you dont care about what i have to say, i will say i have years of experience on the subject. That being said you can google.

Why would someone need to have candles on a christmas tree? What a very stupid thing to do.

21

u/Inkompetech_Inc 17h ago

I think it's a traditional european thing. My family here in Germany always has some candles in the tree and puts them on for christmas eve. For a short time and with supervision.

7

u/WooDDuCk_42 17h ago

Christmas lights didn't always exist. The difference between someone lighting their house on fire because they were playing with sparklers next to a plastic tree and this church is one has common sense and the other doesn't. I'm sure the church has a few fire extinguishers. It also is in the middle of the room.

american moment

1

u/waterpong 16h ago

Idk why this video keeps getting reposted. It’s really not that crazy. Try lighting a tree on fire with a lighter, of course it’s not gonna work

1

u/skennedy505 17m ago

Straight up fire hazard
