Because our brains evolved to seek what releases quick dopamine. Run when you can. Uninstall social media. Leave your phone at home. Distance yourself from the digital world, your brain will always prefer it to the real world.

From my personal perspective?

Because real life sucks and I need an escape from it. My cellphone use and fast food eating habits skyrocket if im in situations where i'm too bored but cant escape, feel physically ill but cant leave, want to be alone but have to socialize and mask my feelings to avoid trouble .. Etc. So draining.

I'm in this really uncomfortable position and everyone around me is eating crap and lost in their cellphones.

I'm not making excuses for my behaviour or saying that i cant take responsibility for it, but the environment certainly is a huge factor that works against us. It's like trying to be optimistic in a world who is clearly going to shit and everyone else is trynna bring you down. you're going against the grain with no support whatsoever, while feeling like shit.
