No matter how many times I watch it, I still don't get it

Clothings are in layers, each layer is only loosely held on top. Something or someone quickly pulls it, likely from under or behind the scene.

People also do this Solo. A gentleman did it for Penn and Teller's Fool Us and they said, out of respect for this noble and secret art. We thank you so much for coming but we're not saying anything.

That woman who did it for americas got talent was amazing.

And... I mean yes, I respect the secrecy, but can you at least tell us the ending of the show? She ends up ... starkers?

15

u/Ok-Bookkeeper-373 1d ago

No. They just costume change.

Eeeeeehhh... I'll give it 5/10 then

The gowns I can kinda see how that would be done, but what's happening with the masks?!!

Purely guessing but They go into pockets and into their sleeves but it's also a slight of hand maneuver

If you pauseplaypauseplaypause really quick you can see the clothes being pulled away, but the masks change seemingly instantly without her hands being anywhere near them. I think they are all one screen that changes color or something.

The last one she just takes off but it's easy to see how she puts her whole sleeve in front of her face lol

Edit: I take it back something is pulled away or rolled from her face every time. The first one the mask is pulled away with the other clothes, the second and third time she does something with her hands around her face.

I saw a video where the guy slowed down the video and it revealed that the masks are actually pieces of cloth and when he presses a button, this thing immediately pulls the one mask down into a compartment that's on his chest.

Ahh! Yes in this case it’s under

I was thinking a big suction machine in the back but then it would probably loud enough to hear unless it had a silencer on it. 🤣

You can easily just slow down this video just using the slide and see the red outfit being pulled off.

Still visually impressive in real time.

Watch in slowmo, the layer gets sucked into the ground

13

u/Lahk74 1d ago

Do not try this at home. Despite all proper protections needed and flawless pronunciation of the required incantations, my master Char'og'un'zaggarakh sucked my soul into the ground rather than my outer layer of clothing. Do not recommend, am now facing an eternity of torture.

That's harsh! I just got my penis stuck

There are far more baffling performances than this one. You can actually tell how this is done here.

It’s a very old Chinese theatre art style. It takes approximately 5 years to master.

1

u/praisetheboognish 1d ago

You can see it pulled off behind them and down.

u/dat-truth 1d ago

Could it be the lighting?

Clothes are in layer and there’s a super high powered vacuum style device behind/underneath them. That’s why the loud noise happens during the change to cover up the suction sounds.

It’s still cool as fuck but that is how it’s done.

This is a whole form of Theater in China that is both very old and very impressive.

It takes 5 years to master and 8 years to be an acolyte of the theatre. I am on my 6th year now.

Need to enroll my wife in this class

Fashion shows be like: 'You blink, you miss it!'"

39

u/nopigscannnotlookup 2d ago

Ahh so the masks are covered in fabric.

18

u/Ok-Bookkeeper-373 2d ago

They are not actually this is Bian lian, a traditional Chinese theater.

Peking opera performances are bonkers

11

u/KegManWasTaken 1d ago

I am a great magician! My clothes are Red!

4

u/Bazookya 1d ago

So the mask is a fabric too? I think that’s the only part I don’t fully get.

Gf does the same thing before going out except it takes 30 mins instead of 30 seconds like this girl. I need her to learn this technique!

1

u/TofuPython 1d ago

Actually I can do that actually

1

u/dedjedi 1d ago

if i wanted to

1

u/IYoloStocks 1d ago

I first thought it’s a simple lighting trick.

1

u/heretolearnmaybe 15h ago

I want Katy Perry to go train in this, like how Zuck trains in random stuff and how Pink randomly learned acrobatic stuff.

1

u/Jelly_Jess_NW 10h ago

That’s crazy!

u/Recent_Illustrator89 1d ago

Good to see Rita repulsa still keeping busy

u/Ginataang_Manok 1d ago

Was I the only one who instantly saw the clothes being pulled from the floor just from the start? the white clothes made it so obvious. Or am I wrong?

3

u/CandidGeologist1523 1d ago

Yeah you're right it's no longer a cool video to watch I guess I'll just take the post down now

1

u/phlpkrny 18h ago

Yep agreed, this isnt impressive at all. Its very obvious. Dont get me wrong, there are some truly impressive quick change artists but this isnt one

-30

u/Grimlja 2d ago

I knew it... Wommen spending hours getting reddy

3

u/Ok-Bookkeeper-373 1d ago

If you spent some time getting ready people might find you attractive. Most of being hot is just putting in the effort.

0

u/Grimlja 18h ago

Some. People cant take a joke. Jesus

1

u/Ok-Bookkeeper-373 18h ago

I know right! I just told you to take some pride in your appearance and you got all huffy. Is it that time of the year when your confronted with how lonely you really are? Men just get all sensitive when people point out they might have to put in effort.

Well, it's more like a striptease than outfit changes. Clothings are in layers, each layer is only loosely held on top. Something or someone quickly pulls it, likely from under or behind the scene.

upd.: Seriously? This is downvoted, the other similar one that I left later while reading through comments is upvoted?

6

u/Ra1nb0wSn0wflake 1d ago

Most likely cause you called it a striptease, which you didnt in the other comment. People probably found it a tad disrespectful to denote a entire form of theater as a striptease.

Its also not a striptease as not every dance imvolving removing layers is a striptease.

striptease - a form of entertainment in which a performer gradually undresses to music in a way intended to be sexually exciting. (Oxford dictionary)

0

u/aberroco 1d ago

And in this case the performer gradually undresses, only without intent of sexual exciting.

6

u/Ra1nb0wSn0wflake 1d ago

Ye.. so its not a striptease.

1

u/aberroco 1d ago

And I didn't said it is. I said it's more like a striptease than outfit changes.
