Who are two actors/actresses you never thought you would see as the two leads together in a movie?

One of Nolan's best IMO. I wish he made more movies like Memento and Insomnia.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill, Wolf of Wall Street.
Jonah was primarily known for his roles in Judd Apatow's bromance comedies prior to that; so I was a bit surprised when I found out he'd landed a leading role in a Scorsese project opposite Leo.
Knocked that shit outta the park, too...

In a similar vein, I was very impressed by Jonah Hill's performance in the ensemble cast of the Coen Brother's 2016 movie: "Hail Caesar" where Hill had a relatively minor role that required him to play the unflinching, straight man in the midst of a cast who otherwise was given a healthy number of comedic lines.
Hill demonstrated the ability to discipline himself and keep his focus on ""serving the role"" as an actor instead of seeking to get the role to serve him.

Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels in Dumb & Dumber. Before then, Daniels was known as a serious dramatic actor, and as it turns out that’s why they wanted him.

He begrudgingly talks about having huge trepidation about the project, and almost talks about it lamentingly when he does these days. Like, you can tell he wants to give credit where it's due, but very much would like his name erased from the poster.
One scene I remember seeing him talk about was the poop scene, and he's like "I read the script and told my agent 'I just don't see how that's funny....' But apparently other people did, so ¯\(ツ)/¯"

Jim Carey and Kate Winslet rocked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind. Both hitting comedy and drama moments. Would loved if they worked together more than once.

I mean... I would have never guessed that Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston would be in the same movie 10-15 years ago, but it surprisingly works well.
Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe in "The Lighthouse" was also a great experience for me, even though I know it's a film that divides opinions among many film lovers.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DiVito in Twins, obviously, but Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins as a winning power duo in both Legends of the Fall AND Meet Joe Black.
