where do you put your things?
Hi,
There are some beautiful rooms and spaces on this sub and I’m so inspired by them. I know there’s different types of minimalism and some more extreme.
I grew up from a hoarder/maximalist family who would keep things just in case. I regularly donate to charity, but I’m kinda stuck on the next steps. Especially when it comes to my bedroom and office (I work from home).
But I have questions- where do you put the tissues? If someone calls and you need to write things down how do you do that when all you’ve got is a blank workspace and your monitor is in sleep mode?

Minimalism spaces are typically still functional with all the odds and ends of regular houses, just less of it. Also, if I'm taking pictures of my place, I'm usually "staging" it by low key hiding clutter off scene.
Minimalism for me is more like.. instead of four forks, I might only have two. I have one knife and one bowl. I only own clothes that I wear. I have one pillow. I don't have a lot of excess stuff or duplicates of things.
As an artist, I have lots of Art Supplies, but not duplicates of those art supplies.
Unfortunately, I have a crap ton of Christmas stuff (my crap ton I mean three boxes and a mini-Christmas tree, but to me, that's a lot.) I decided I didn't want it, got rid of most of it... and then got it again because I like Christmas.
To answer your question, I do try to keep my stuff in drawers or a bookshelf. I like the "clean" look very much.

Thank you for your comment! Maybe I’m reading more into the ‘staging’ aspect of minimalism. It’s so interesting with the one bowl/one fork but multiple art supplies. I love hearing how it works for everyone.

i grew up like you - you'd think we grew up hours away from any store with the amount of food and stuff my parents used to fill our house with. now, i do my best to only buy what i need at the time. so while i have extra toilet paper and kleenex, for example, i just get the eight pack of TP and just 2-3 extra boxes of kleenex, which are kept in a small closet. i frequently go through my pantry and medicine drawer in my bedroom to toss things that have expired or donate food that i am obviously not going to eat.
i also try, as a crafty person, to simply buy only the supplies i need for the craft i intend to make (usually the same weekend). my mom and sister HOARD fabric and craft supplies and i found myself doing the same, only to never make the thing.
my desk has a drawer with paper and pens. :)

omg yes craft supplies!! Thank you for your comment. I think I always feel so conscious of hoarding, with a bin in every room and always donating to op shops. It’s nice to hear someone else has more than one pen! 😊

my bathroom : 2piece tier organizer (top: skincare ,bottom: dental hygiene)
my room: bed, tv, make up vanity, rug on my vanity nothing is out except my perfume collection which is on a tray , makeup goes into drawers on the vanity
everything else is in my closet. clothes on hangers, shoes are on the door with a door organizer, and i have one of those plastic Sterilite 3 Drawers in which i put my underclothes in the first drawer, my extras (extra toothpaste, soap etc) in the second drawer and the third drawer is where i keep my hair items that i dont use everyday .
so everything for me is based on organization. i only like to leave out what i use for everyday and everything else goes into the closet
