How much of that did you build, is it just the piece behind the tv, or did you build that console below the tv as well?

The build is honestly more complicated than it seems. I wouldn't recommend it since it's really a form over a function ordeal. I made it work for me though. :)

The slats are from Amazon. I cut those down and screwed them into the wall.

The floating console, there's two of them. Ordered from Amazon as well. I made them look one unit. Had to cut holes on the bottom and need to finish creating the cable management system I have in mind.

The panel behind the TV, MDF I bought from home Depot and mounted into the wall. I cut a square hole into the MDF and mounted the TV into it to make it look as flushed as possible.

The accent panels on the MDF are from Amazon with Veneer strips on the edges to hide the MDF.

Yeh woodworking can often be super time consuming even if the end result seems simple.

Everything was bought from amazon and just assembled at home

Oh..

it’s really a form over a function ordeal.

So many aspects clashing from an aesthetic point of view. I would have said form compromises weee made because of function, but it appears not.

Maybe it was complicated, but it's absolutely amazing. All your effort paid off.

The asymmetry is really bugging me. I think it would look better with asymmetry in one place vs two (the backboard and the vertical strips). Really digging the floating media console. More I look at it the more I feel like the horizontals on the media console and the verticals on the wall clash too. I don’t have to live with it though.

TLDR, everything looks really nice on their own, just not together

Agree, there really is no rhyme or reason to where anything is and makes it look off. From his comments he was copying what he saw in high end listings he saw as a real estate agent. Can't always just copy something and have it work in a completely different space.

Hotel lobby core

1

u/TiggySmitts 8h ago

Yep, gives major waiting for an uber at the Marriott Bonvoy lobby vibes.

I hope there is no couch but 6 chairs in an arc

u/rlovelock 11h ago

Im curious about your decision to seemingly not center anything.

10

u/ceezo6 16h ago

It would have looked better without that slanted part on the wall tbh

u/beeztox 16h ago

nice profile pic

u/ceezo6 8h ago

Nice we’re a couple of sexy beasts

1

u/its_bydesign 12h ago

I agree, that bit is throwing off the whole thing for me. It’s an uneasy balance

1

u/racso20 7h ago

Not much he can do about that.

1

u/ceezo6 6h ago

He could have not put the wood slats on that part?

1

u/racso20 6h ago

That would look uglier in my opinion 🤷🏽‍♂️

grrrrr! tv is not centered on that wood panel, its irking me so bad. beautiful workmanship though. are you going to paint that wall a different color?

27

u/imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY 19h ago

Looks perfectly left-aligned.

11

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown 17h ago

I really like it the way it is.

0

u/ajd341 19h ago

It would be cool to have some floating shelves on the left still

9

u/GogoDogoLogo 18h ago

i dunno. i feel like the shelves will just make it more unbalanced

2

u/ajd341 18h ago

Maybe! But I’m definitely with you on being upset with the imbalance as is

1

u/GogoDogoLogo 18h ago

if he just centered it, there'd be no need for shelves or he could add shelves to both sides. my OCD wouldn't let me sleep at night knowing this is in the living room lol

3

u/PeaTare 18h ago

What was the inspiration for this?

23

u/absolutely_regarded 18h ago

Rather ugly. Sorry, brother. Skill does not replace taste.

2

u/FonkyFong 12h ago

Bro never heard of Fibonacci 🤦‍♂️

0

u/Reasonable_Mail_3656 2h ago

What skill, everything is from Amazon lol.

1

u/absolutely_regarded 1h ago

Effort, then.

15

u/halfgodhalfmonster 23h ago

I commend the craftsmanship, but why was it needed to begin with? It seems like it just creates a frame the tv is uncentered on. The right side of the tv will look better once there’s shelves for sure, but I just don’t get the point. If there’s a point it’s great, nice job.

-19

u/Danielx511 23h ago

I like the "show home" look. I work in real estate. I hope this answers your questions.

28

u/halfgodhalfmonster 22h ago

Not at all but if you like it that’s what matters and looks like you did it well

-10

u/Danielx511 22h ago

Ah, my apologies. This is just the things I see when I go show clients upscale homes. And thanks!

-10

u/jelde 22h ago

Well, that answered it for me.

1

u/htadd1ct 14h ago

You choose looks over whats best for the TV experience?

14

u/Ok_Affect_2293 20h ago

This looks like shit.

3

u/FlipMeOverUpsidedown 17h ago

I seem to be in the minority here but I love the asymmetry.

6

u/nahvocado22 23h ago

I have looked at this for awhile and decided I dig it. The way you style the rest of the room will make or break!

5

u/Danielx511 22h ago

Still a work in progress. :) almost done, honestly tho, I don't think my style is for everyone.

9

u/FonkyFong 22h ago

Abomination

2

u/betabetadotcom 13h ago

28yo in 1974?

4

u/Undercoverpizzalover 17h ago

I really start to hate these walls, it seems like everyone and their grandma has one these days

11

u/To6y 23h ago

Who's going to tell him?

-4

u/Danielx511 23h ago

Tell me what?

17

u/ShadowIG 23h ago

Probably TV too small and TV too high.

4

u/Danielx511 23h ago

TV is 75in and I took the picture from a low angle. It's on a mount that can be angled or pulled out in any direction.

24

u/RobotDinosaur1986 22h ago

Don't admit to the angle of shame.

4

u/ShadowIG 23h ago

I think it looks dope. But I'd center the TV. The gap on the right would bug me.

14

u/Danielx511 23h ago

Thanks and I understand. It's actually centered with the floating console and I plan on adding shelves in the open space in the future. :)

2

u/Aggravating-Life-786 16h ago

I was going to comment the same as the dude above but it could be fine if you add some shelving to the right.

0

u/Ruttagger 20h ago

I'm always jumping on this sub to post tvtoohigh, but I think this is fine.

-3

u/RobotDinosaur1986 22h ago

It is higher than it should be, but we do not bestow on it then rank of too high.

3

u/To6y 23h ago

It's above the acceptable height for this sub, judging by its height relative to the wall switches and the stairway handrail.

2

u/Danielx511 23h ago

33in above the ground. The top of the TV is a tad higher than my height, I'm 5'8.

8

u/To6y 22h ago

Do you watch tv standing up? If so, it’s too low. If not, it’s a bit high.

2

u/Lubranzz 22h ago

It’s way too high for optimal viewing but other than that your wall looks great and I love the floating console.

-2

u/chadislaw 18h ago

Bro if center being 4 feet off the ground is too high for you get a new neck

0

u/Lubranzz 18h ago

Get some glasses brotha the center is much higher than 4ft off the ground

3

u/jelde 22h ago

I love everything except the wood platform behind the TV, the color and style clashes with the rest in my opinion.

2

u/divineqc 18h ago

Gonna look really damn good once it's all decorated and finished up, I'm surprised by all the negative feedback. Good stuff.

2

u/gnrc 18h ago

That’s really clean work man

2

u/htadd1ct 14h ago

If you're going to do wooden slats here's two things to keep in mind.

The TV area is to be fully done. No half way or part way jobs done. This looks out of place and is a major distraction. It doesn't look good either.

The whole wall is to be fully done from left to right.

2

u/OogieBoogieJr 16h ago

I dig it, OP! I like the asymmetry but am assuming the TV is centered with the console below it? Can’t tell from this angle.

2

u/formulaic_name 12h ago

The construction looks good. The design.....does not.

2

u/earthly_marsian 1d ago

That looks really cool and upscale! Great job mate!

1

u/HorribleMistake24 13h ago

it's not centered, you putting something on that big open space to the right of the TV?

criticism is ok right? other than that - looks absolutely amazing

1

u/akopley 12h ago

Absolutely gorgeous but WHY is the tv off center? I would die a slow death in this room from annoyance.

1

u/Maelefique 11h ago

I'm a fan of well done asymmetricality, so, well done! :)

1

u/DatDan513 9h ago

Sorry. Not a fan.

1

u/nesnalica 9h ago

my OCD is killing me.

i want the TV to be right in the middle of this wood thing. lmao

1

u/mccalllllll 8h ago

Very pretty but I think I would stain the wood behind the tv a darker stain for contrast.

1

u/Rambl3On 8h ago

Looks nice. I would’ve had the TV be centered in the panel though.

1

u/Werbebanner 7h ago

I honestly like it. But please, for fuck sale, center this TV

1

u/_Hounds_ 3h ago

A wall mounted console or VCR would counter the left-aligned tv, although I don’t think it looks bad as is?

0

u/thebourbonoftruth 22h ago

I wouldn't have it in my home but it's hella cool man. I like the extra wood on the right to balance the slats on the left. Very much a statement piece vs "Imma toss a TV here".

1

u/DM_ME_Reasons_2_Live 13h ago

That tv is way too high bru, good luck with the cricked neck

1

u/hornbro4bro 16h ago

The space on the board next to the tv that everyone is complaining about? Perfect place for a sword 🗡️

1

u/banjorunner8484 13h ago

My god why is it not centered

0

u/louievee 20h ago

Love it. Like the asymmetrical look.

0

u/claude_father 18h ago

Should be centered. Second best option is to hang a plant to the right of the tv

-2

u/Lost-in-LA-CA-USA 20h ago

Bravo! You succeeded in making something that usually looks shitty, look good.

-2

u/Tim-in-CA 21h ago

I like it except for the off centered TV placement. I hope you also ran video connections behind the wall so no wires are visible when you connect your equipment.

-5

u/RobotDinosaur1986 22h ago

Not too high, but watch your ass buddy.

-1

u/Calm_Row122 20h ago

Overall I think it’s cool. Design wise I think it would look better if the vertical slats and floating shelf weren’t the same color - it’s a lot walnut. I tend to also agree with others who have pointed out that the panel behind the TV that is off center of both the TV and the floating shelf, but is centered on the wall is displeasing to the eye - even if you do plan to add shelves there (why tho? You have a giant floating shelf with storage). BUT I only give these opinions because this is Reddit and you asked for it. All that really matters is that you like it and I commend you on the work you put in to it.

Without repeating the one obvious thing everyone has said…

Holy shit man that is incredible.
