Coming to Jakarta? Read This First

Feel Free to post questions about Jakarta, But FFS, DO SOME RESEARCH FIRST BEFORE YOU POST. A quick Google Search will get you very far about things TO DO, or WHAT TO EAT in Jakarta. Keep your posts complete and thorough! DO NOT make a new thread on different things one by one, "where do i eat xyx?" "where can i buy Xyx?" "what to do in Jakarta in 5 days?".

instead, make one single post telling how long would you be in Jakarta, What kind of food or activities you like and would like to do in Jakarta. I'm sure people here would be happy to answer and help, but don't treat this subreddit like your personal AI chatbot. Use "hello" "hi" "please" and "thank you" when asking to another human being!

mods will remove threads asking without any prior research or manners. repeat offenders will be banned. you have been warned.

thanks!

Return to Indonesia citizenship

Hello everyone. I just proposed to my indonesia girlfriend last month, so that's exciting. I didn't realize that indonesia does not allow dual citizenship. I want her to become US citizen and move here to the united states with me. She is unsure and will miss being an indonesian citizen. I tried to research what it would take if maybe someday I pass and she wants to move back to indonesia. It was unclear how someone could regain their indonesian citizenship. Has anyone here done that or known someone who's done that? Does anyone know a person that is a foreign citizen, but lives their life in indonesia? So maybe she could still go back as a us citizen.

Advice on Halal food spots in Jakarta

Hey y'all, I'm headed to Indonesia for the Linkin Park concert in February, and I need advice/recommendations for cafes/food spots I should visit. I'll be coming down with a friend of mine who is Muslim, and I want to make sure I do my due diligence and not accidentally bring her somewhere that isn't halal.

While googling, I found places like Pagi Sore, and cafes like Scarletts place seem to be pretty popular, however i noticed that a few of the restraunts were stated as having halal options but also had alcohol on the menu. Is this a common thing for Indonesia? And if the location doesn't have the halal certification, how can I make sure that it's still halal?

Indonesia Visa Help

Hi Everyone,

I'm traveling to Turkey from Thailand and I have a self-transfer layover in Jakarta on my way to and back from Turkey, I understand that since I'll need to leave the transit area I'll require a visa, but I'm wondering whether this visa will stay valid for my journey back when I need to do another self transfer, or will I need to get another visa on my way back? I'm eligible for a VOA since I'm an Australian citizen btw.

What Features Would Make You Want to Buy a Cluster House for at Least 4M Rupiah in West Jakarta?

Hi, I'm considering building cluster houses in West Jakarta and am curious to know what factors would make you want to purchase one for at least 4 billion Rupiah.

Would you prioritize:
- Proximity to transportation (e.g., MRT, bus stops)?
- Security features (e.g., gated community, CCTV)?
- Modern amenities (e.g., smart home technology, sustainable features)?
- Spacious layout or green spaces?
- A specific neighborhood or surrounding infrastructure (e.g., schools, shopping areas)?
- Price point vs. value offered?

Also, I’d love to know:
- What size of the building (in square meters) would you expect for this price range?
- Would you plan to live in the house or rent it out?

Feel free to share any other preferences or thoughts that would influence your decision! Your input will be really helpful in designing the project.

Thanks!

Seeking Insights on Expat Housing Preferences in West Jakarta

Hi everyone, I’m exploring the idea of investing in a residential project in Jakarta, particularly in West Jakarta, and would love to hear your insights as expats.

I’m curious about where expats typically prefer to live in Jakarta and what factors are most important when choosing a rental property. For example, do you prioritize proximity to work, schools, or certain amenities like pools, gyms, or security?

If the property were to be in West Jakarta, what would you expect in terms of:
- Monthly rent price?
- Property size (land and building)?
- Facilities offered (e.g., gym, pool, parking, smart home features)?

Your feedback would be invaluable as I refine my ideas. Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts!

Staycation hotel Jakarta

Hi, I’m looking for a luxury hotel for a 3D/2N staycation in Jakarta for this February. I found The Dharmawangsa Hotel via online search and I like it a lot, but I am wondering if there are other good options that I’m missing. I generally like classical/boutique hotels with a nice swimming pool and wellness facilities.

Any recommendations?

I am arriving around 7:30 AM on a Sunday with Singapore Airlines, and I need to clear immigration and customs, access an ATM and head to another terminal.

There are Lion Air and Super Jet flights at 10:55. Can I make either or both of those?

Does anyone have any recommendations on ATMs and were to buy a phone card for 30 days?

Thank you.

Hi Jakarta. I have a favourite pair of pants that I would like to take to a tailor so I can have copies made. A few questions: (1) roughly how much would the market price be for this? (2) anyone got a good tailor recommendation? (3) should I bring fabric or will most tailors be offer a selection of fabrics? Thanks!

Moving Back to Jakarta: Need Updated Modern Apartment Building Recommendations

I lived in Jakarta previously for some years for work, heading back to live there from March/April 2025, and I'm looking for apartment building recommendations, specifically, more modern/upscale buildings in SCBD/Kuningan/Sudirman.

All Jakarta Apartments used to be my go-to source. However, I just checked, and it seems the site hasn't been updated since 2021. I'm really after some more up-to-date recommendations.

Where I have lived previously to give an idea of what I am after:

Menteng Park Apartments (I enjoyed living there even though it was further away from my office at the time, which was in SCBD, but from my recent research of reviews from tenants, it appears the maintenance/upkeep of the building has gone downhill quite a lot, with reports of extensive pest issues throughout the building now, which I never encountered when I lived there in 2021/2022).

Residence 8 (It was fine, but I had ongoing issues with the internet here in two separate apartments in the building)

District 8 Apartments (I liked living here, but again, I'm after some more recent recommendations)

The Mansion Kemang (Not for me. I like going to Kemang, but I'm not a fan of living in Kemang. I also didn't like the layout of the apartments)

The Elements and Anandamaya Residences look promising. If anyone has any up to date recommendations, I'm all ears, as I'm finding it difficult to find reliable sources of information now that All Jakarta Apartments will seemingly never be updated again.

Possibility of rain at Linkin Park concert in Feb

I'm planning to visit Jakarta for the Linkin Park concert scheduled for Feb 16 at the GBK Madya stadium. However, basic research on internet shows that it is peak rain season in Indonesia Feb. I'm not sure if the frequency or the intensity of the rainfall. Or even about the venue facilities. Can someone guide me on this and possible impact of the rains on the concert? Also how will be the rain in Bali and other parts of Indonesia, if I decide to plan a week long tour? For context, I'll be travelling from Mumbai, India and it rains heavily and kinda continuously here during peak rains, hence the worry. TIA

Hi guys, Ill be visiting Jakarta with the wife on February for the upcoming linkin park concert and it'll be my first time. Thanks in advance... And looking forward to visiting Jakarta for the 1st time.
