Thank you 🙏 I’m aware it could be a LONG process for me - it is for people in my country anyway ATM, couple of countries have this IDK about the rest of the world. Plus I have several other barriers including the whole mobility thing which while it has significantly improved, it’s taken quite a few careers & jobs off the table. Including what I used to do plus my two side jobs & jobs like those but I am SO ready for a change!

It could quite easily take me a year or even 2 to get a job. Even with my best efforts. So I have to be REALLY kind to myself during this process & try to stay upbeat!

Having said THAT I have amazing support! Including these lovely daily lists & everyone here but other people too. It’s not going to be a scatter gun apply for everything suitable or not process for me. (Hopefully!) Rather a tailored job hunt. But I’m already learning a LOT that can benefit not just my current job hunt but possibly the rest of my working life. It could be a quick process and within a week or month I could have a job or it could be a year or even 2 - I doubt it would be longer than that. But I am doing my part & making the most of the situation.

And thank you for this encouragement! I’ve only applied for 2 jobs though I have been contacting recruiters too & getting my CV out there. I got two rejections but they were only my first 2 applications & I’ll be emailing a company about a job probably today. So thank you for your amazing support & encouragement cos I could be though I might not be in for a bit of a long road. Even fully able bodied people doing what I did & wanting to leave that part but stay in the same sector are struggling & lots of people have had 60 - 100 plus rejections in my country and at least one other. Well, I do what I can, one day at a time. And I shall remind myself what you said THANK YOU 🙏

Sorry I wrote a novel to rival war and peace there 🤣

What industry are you looking at?

So basically probably just admin to start with. I have SOME admin experience - 3 months temping as an admin assistant for one company’s HR plus just shy of 6 months volunteering for a charity (I’m still there.)

Initially I was just thinking admin assistant but the roles & requirements sometimes are VERY similar - even some agencies have told me this & that it depends on the job.

Customer service (on the phone) is another possibility because I have about 3 years on & off temping as a Customer Service Assistant - face to face helping literally thousands of customers for a tourist attraction. (Quite a prestigious one too!) Plus with the volunteering I interact on the phone with people who’ve been referred to us. As well as updating the CRM etc.

My job & career before the volunteering I can’t do physically because of my injury but I want to get out of that sector anyway. But there are transferable skills - as well as the people skills there’s an admin side to that also.

Ah sorry to hear! I’m from the US so I don’t know how things work where you are at, but have you looked into an accounting assistant or data entry roles? Smaller companies in particular don’t always require a degree.

I worked with a lot of nonprofits in the US and wasn’t that uncommon for people to start as volunteers and get employed there later on-definitely got to ask them though.

This was especially true for nonprofits with a lot of grants/legacy donations etc where they need to actually employ people. Again US, but places like food banks and clothing donations places that rely on regular people donating are far less likely to hire.

Good luck and it is good to have a realistic timeline in place. Some people expect to get a job right away and when it doesn’t happen, it causes issues such as losing motivation, giving up, etc.

Actually I HAVE a degree but in something different and I have two diplomas (although one is just from online but the other diploma is from a “bricks and mortar” college and took several years alongside doing the degree to get.

(But it’s just in a different industry. That I now can’t do and don’t want to 🤣)

But hmm 🤔

Thank you so much. Those things are certainly possibilities!

Yes, basically if they had the funding for it and if they need a paid admin assistant I’ve been told I WOULD be the top of their list.

I do also keep an eye on a charity website & have talked to some recruiters including those who deal with the charity sector - being that now I also have experience of working in a charity (even if it’s volunteering still counts!)

Yes, it would be nice if say I got something good next week but I see people with less barriers than I take a year plus, or say they’ve done 60 - 100 applications to no avail! So I know it might be a quick process but it could take a while. Sometimes I get down about it or frustrated with parts of it but mostly I’m doing what I can to make the most of the situation and also seeing the bigger picture every CV tweak, all the work building & connecting on LinkedIn and so on it can pay off for my professional life beyond the next job (well, I hope so.)

I have ideas for my search that I’ll implement but it could still take time. I saw something today and I was in the middle of finding out might but I read reviews from people who worked there and WOW it’s a no for me, toxic work culture.
