Discussion Weekly “Why is this in the Top 10 most tracked?” Thread - December 09, 2024

Welcome to the weekly discussion thread! The goal of this post is to provide a location for questions and discussion about aircraft that don't necessitate their own individual posts, in addition to centralizing discussion about known aircraft that are frequently posted. This includes aircraft on the "Most tracked flights" list.

Please be sure to check out the FAQ to make sure your question isn't covered there. If you're looking at a military aircraft in the Ukraine region, you may find some answers in the original Ukraine megathread. For military aircraft in general, checking the callsign against this list may yield useful information. In all situations, make sure you search for the aircraft callsign and check recent posts to find any existing discussion.

Otherwise, feel free to post any questions or findings below and discuss with others!

Why is the Most Tracked full with Amsterdam Airport Ground Vehicles? Is each vehicle using it to monitor where each other is?

My best guess is that they’re using FR24 to track their ground vehicles on a handful of computers and monitors. When there is a low volume of people watching stuff on the top 10 (any less than a couple thousand) it’s really easy for random stuff to break into the list. Once it does, people click on them wondering what they are.

Any idea why this is the most tracked flight right now?

I know I’m a bit late, but often large planes get tracked by lots of people just as they are taking off/landing. Once north of about 30 people click it, the plane reaches the leaderboard, then lots more people click it.
